This article starts off with a video of different pictures put together just to have a physical affect on you after you look at it. Photography is the art of capturing the world's greatest and sometimes saddest moments that happen. It's not just pointing a camera and taking a few shots of something, it goes much deeper than what meets the eye. This article states that photography isn’t what it use to be, they never took as long as they do now to take pictures of things. They used to take one picture and put it and that was done and over with. This soon changed in the later years, everything just doesn't get taken care of as soon as it happens. Photography has grew over the years and people who were asked why they do what they do simply say
Photography allows us to maintain memories and relish them whenever we desire. Although some advocates might argue that people are no longer enjoying experiences instead taking more pictures, in the essay, “Why We Take Pictures”, by Susan Sontag, she conflates that photography can be used as a defense against anxiety and a tool of empowerment. I agree with Sontag on the significance of photographs and how it allows us to store a part of our extended relatives so we are able to hold on the memories of family. Therefore, we must appreciate how photography allows us to manage anxiety, express feelings and remember our loved ones.
Photography is defined at the art or practice of taking and processing photographs. To understand photography is having insight or good judgment to know how to take the picture, but also edit it if need be. Does photography limit our understanding of the world? What some people haven’t realized is that photography is all around us, whether it is in the person’s mind to see it or not. While we see photography throughout our daily routine, people dismiss the small types of photography and focus on the bigger sceneries like other countries beautiful cities and landscapes. It’s true that in this day and age, most photographs we see have been altered in some way. When photographers use Photoshop to edit our photos, we use many different ways to make that image appealing to the eye. Although, photographers unless told to do so will not change an image into something totally absurd that takes away from being astatically pleasing. Images are a gateway to the insight of the rest of the world’s cultures landscapes, and architecture, and photography is the key aspect to it. Photography is a one way to see the world, but it is better if you go and travel around the world to see it. In order to see if photography actually limits our understanding, we have to first look at the positive side of photography.
A picture is more than just a piece of time captured within a light-sensitive emulsion, it is an experience one has whose story is told through an enchanting image. I photograph the world in the ways I see it. Every curious angle, vibrant color, and abnormal subject makes me think, and want to spark someone else’s thought process. The photographs in this work were not chosen by me, but by the reactions each image received when looked at. If a photo was merely glanced at or given a casual compliment, then I didn’t feel it was strong enough a work, but if one was to stop somebody, and be studied in curiosity, or question, then the picture was right to be chosen.
What is a photograph? Now, one might say a photograph is an image taken of oneself, another person(s), and/or a place using a camera. Others might say that a photograph is an image of a moment or memory captured in time that will be forever remembered. Both are correct of course, but I believe a photograph has the potential of meeting both of those ideas. In addition, pictures exist to portray any image of ourselves that we want noticed; by the world. Pictures and selfies can help create any façade one wishes to maintain in order to hide who they really are. These pictures, define who we are as human beings; They enhance our social standing and advocate our individuality. Each picture taken has an underlying message that is trying to be heard.
Some Indian cultures believe that if their picture was taken their soul would become trapped in that photograph. Others believe that a camera captures the true essence of a person. That when you look into the photograph you can see who that person truly was. When you click on that button on a camera you are capturing that moment in time. Later when you examine the product of that moment you can see what that person was feeling at that very moment. Pictures can be moving, they can tell a story, and they can preserve a memory.
When going for a walk, a person takes in the beauty around them. On this particular day, the refulgent sun is extra bright, making the sky a perfect blue. White, puffy clouds fill the sky, slowing moving at their own pace. The wind is peacefully calm, making the trees stand tall and proud. There is no humidity in the air. As this person walks down the road, they see a deer with her two fawns. The moment is absolutely beautiful. Moments like this happen only once in a great while, making us wanting to stay in the particular moment forever. Unfortunately, time moves on, but only if there were some way to capture the day’s magnificence. Thanks to Joseph Niépce, we can now capture these moments and others that take our breath away. The invention of the camera and its many makeovers has changed the art of photography.
Photography is an incredibly popular form of technology. The technology behind photography has changed drastically since it was first introduced to the world. Cameras were giant, clunky, and highly technical pieces of machinery at their debut; however, now cameras are so small and easily used, people of all ages all over the world can use one. Cameras have always used the idea of capturing light. When photography first started to become a popular activity cameras displayed images on photosensitive paper, or film, which would then be developed using chemicals to reveal an image. However, that all changed with the introduction of digital cameras: cameras that could almost immediately display an image that had been captured on a sensor onto a screen. Yet, it appears that cameras are still evolving currently; the quality of photos keeps rising. However, image quality can only evolve so far if the structure of digital cameras does not also evolve. It may seem surprising, but the current structure of cameras is inhibiting the improvement of certain aspects of cameras. Specifically, the evolution of camera resolution, a key aspect of cameras, is being inhibited by current camera design. Camera resolution has a direct effect on photographic image quality. To understand exactly how the evolution of camera resolution is being limited it is necessary to answer questions such as: What is a camera, what makes up a camera, how have cameras evolved, and how can cameras still evolve? To help answer these questions, it is necessary to look to topics involving camera development such as its history, its present applications, and even its future. Professionals from a wide range of academic fields such as engineering, economy, and photography are ne...

A great photograph was considered an accident, and captured only because of the right, unintentional circumstances. People saw photographers as lacking talent. However, this idea shifted as photographers captured seemingly, boring, uninviting scenes, and turned them into beautiful, artistic, and compelling images.
“When photography was invented it was thought to be an equivalent to truth, it was truth with a capital ‘T’.” Vicki Goldberg
Have you ever seen a painting or picture that captivates you and directly stirs up emotion within you? More than likely, you have. Usually, viewers merely observe the picture and enjoy the way it looks and how it makes them feel. But, have you ever asked yourself, “why?” What about the picture makes it pleasing to the viewer? With each strategy the photographer uses creates their own touch and passion that floods all over the picture. The emotional connection nearly goes unnoticed for when the picture is well photographed, the viewers experience the sensation in their subconscious. This is one of the most powerful tools that a photographer holds in their hands. If one can become a master of manipulating how the photo affects its viewers, the said photographer can potentially maneuver people’s minds and thoughts with one click of a button. The time spent with my mentor has opened up the door for me to tap into that power though the use of background, focus, shutter speed, angles, and most importantly, lighting. Even with all these techniques, the person behind the camera must remember that creativity must be at the forefront of all operations. Caleno (2014), when writing about the basics of capturing a beautiful moment in a picture commented, “If we want to be creative we must drop these pre-conceptions and start looking at things from a small child’s innocence.”
Commercial photography is an integral part of the design and advertising world today—whether it is product photography, commercial portraiture, or any number of other types of commercial work. Before the rise of photography, advertisers and designers used elements like hand-drawn illustrations to show what they were trying to market, sell, or communicate to the viewer (Green). This is primarily because the first permanent color photograph was not taken until 1861 and there were still a vast amount of technical advancements that had to be made in color photography before it could be used commercially (Lipkin). With the drastic improvements to photographic technology that occurred throughout the entire 20th century (including the introduction
Being a fine art photographer, this is a BIG subject for me, having already taken 20th Century Art, I have a lot in my head about this, so excuse me if I ramble. This debate has been ongoing since the beginning of photography itself. A heated debate that started early with such very outspoken critics as the influential poet turned art critic Frenchman Charles Baudelaire (April 9, 1821 – August 31, 1867) who held a strong belief that lazy and uncreative painters would turn to photography, that art is an imaginative embodiment of cultivated ideas and dreams, and he regarded photography as "a very humble servant of art and science, like printing and stenography" - a medium largely unable to transcend "external reality." –Like many critics of
As told by the dictionary, photography would be defined as a process of art of producing images by the chemical action of light or of other forms of radiant energy. The art of photography lets one take a photo of anything imaginable. From the very beginning when the camera was first invented to present day, the art has advanced in every way possible. Over the course of several decades, the camera has not only advanced in technology and innovation but also changes the way people view the world.
“Beauty can be seen in all things, seeing and composing the beauty is what separates the snapshot from the photograph.” as said by Matt Hardy. Throughout history, photography has continued to piece together the elements of art through the lens a camera. Photography has given everyone the chance to become an artist by capturing light. The 21st century would not be the same without the ability to capture memories that can be held for a lifetime. Today, anyone is able to see the rest of the world that they have never traveled to, never seen, or never even heard of due to the photography that has established and shaped our culture. Major achievements in the history of photography are the first camera obscura, the realization that silver turns black in light, the invention of the pentaprism, and the development of colored film. As more advancements are constructed, many more achievements will be made. Photography will been known as one of the greatest technological advances of all time.
