How have genetics affected our lives? From your physical appearance, to the pets you play with, we are gonna take a look at how genetics have changed our lives. First we’re going to take a look at how genes create you. Then i am going to talk about how mutations in genes can affect us. I will also tell you how our pets ended up the way they are. Lastly we are going to see how GloFish work and the big deal about GMOs.
Dominant and recessive genes are a big part of our lives. Dominant genes using are more common and only require one parent to have the gene. Dark colored hair is an example of a dominant gene. Mutations sometimes do not harm people. Although, when mutations do affect people, it is usually very drastic and can be deadly. Mutations are rarely beneficial and it is nothing to extreme such as becoming spider-man. In some mutations it allows people, mostly female, to see in colors that other people can not.
You may not know but selective breeding is big part of our lives. Selective breeding is when you take an organism with a specific trait and breed it with an organism, of the same species, with another specific trait. Plants can be selectively bred to be bigger or have different colors. Over time and breeding, the organism will have those traits. Selective breeding is a huge part of why we could play with our dogs. Our dogs came from wolves and would have not be this friendly if it was not for selective breeding.
Glofish are a vibrant species of fish that glow in the dark. It was originally made in singapore with the actual fish being used was a zebrafish, the GloFish are now making their way to american homes. Their extreme colors come in red purple yellow green blue and pink. GloFish are not harmful to the environment at home but if they got out they could do real damage. Becoming an invasive species they could grow in number, larger than any other fish in the area, and will need to feed on the other organisms foods. That could be really bad even make some species go extinct.

Domestication is the process whereby a population of living organisms is changed at the genetic level, through generations of selective breeding, to accentuate traits that ultimately benefit humans. The deliberate breeding of animals and other species to obtain required features by human beings is called selective breeding. The issue of whether or not criminal or aggressive behavior and violence is caused by biological or environmental factors has proven to be one that has caused a dispute for many years now. The biological or genetic factor of violent/criminal or aggressive behavior is certainly a much talked about topic. The idea that certain individuals could be predisposed to violence is something definitely deserving of doing research about. The nature vs. nurture topic has been a continuing debate for many aspects of human behavior, including aggression/violent behavior and criminal behavior. There have been many studies indicating that chemical relationships between hormones and the frontal lobe of the brain may play a key role in determining aggressive behavior as well as genetics, while other studies have explored environmental and social factors that have been said to control patterns in human aggression. Aggressive/violent behavior can’t be answered directly if it is caused by either nature or nurture; instead it is believed that both cause it.

Because the body has two sets of genes, a person may have normal pigmentation but carry the albinism gene. If a person has one normal gene and one albinism gene that is still enough to pass the disease on to their children. This type of inheritance is called autosomal recessive inheritance. If a parent has a child with albinism, it means the parent must carry the albinism gene. Until recently, unless a person has albinism or has a child with albinism, there was no way of knowing whether he or she carries the gene for albinism. Recently, a test has been developed to identify carriers of the gene for ty-negative albinism and for other types in which the tyrosinase enzyme does not function. The test uses a sample of blood to identify the gene for the tryrosinase enzyme by its DNA code. A similar test can identify type-negative or similar albinism in unborn babies, by aminiocentesis.
Height, hair color, eye color and sex are just a few examples of ways our DNA has shaped us. But could it be possible that our DNA also effects the way we behave in society. It is possible that genetics effect us is more ways that we may have imagined. Dr. Peter B. Neubaur believes that shyness, eating disorders, obsessive behavior and psychological illness can all be traced back to our genetics. Sexual orientation is also believed to be derived from genes in our body which determine what sexual preference we prefer. Violence and other types of crimes can be linked back throughout a person’s lineage to witness that other family members have been committed similar crimes without ever meeting one and other.
