Gender equality in the United States, as well as many other areas of the world, has always been lacking on the women’s perspective. The idea that men are just all around better and more deserving caught and spread like a wildfire, this idea still has not been entirely diminished.(sv,sv) With hard work and determination, women have gone against the odds and stood together to prove their capability of being equal to the men in the United States. The rights of women from the past to the present have fluctuated tremendously. All that we have gained; all that we aspire to gain; show what we are capable of.(sv;sv;sv)
In the year 1769, colonies took advantage of the English system of property ownership for married women; meaning that women cannot own property in their own name or keep their own earnings. By the year 1900, every state will have passed legislation modeled after New York’s married women property act, which grants women the right to keep their own wages and to own property in their own name. In 1868, the National Labor Union pushed for equal pay for equal work, the concept that a woman must be paid the same as a man for doing the same, or equivalent job, within the same qualifications.(Women’s Rights Timeline)
As more time goes on, the demand for equality grows stronger and women believe that they can push for more. In the year 1869, the territory of Wyoming passes the first law in the nation, giving women over the age of 21 the right to vote. Between 1890 and 1994, women in 96 percent of all nation-states acquired the right to vote and seek public office.(Fransisco) A federal law is granted in 1872, female federal employees equal pay for equal work is enacted. Women have proven what they are capable of and have shown that they have what it takes to be independent and make a difference in the world. Without the help of any man, we as females will continue to strive to do and be the best that we can. The rights of women from the past to the present have fluctuated tremendously. The only thing left to do now, is to keep moving forward.

Although society claims that we are in the age where there is gender equality, it is clear that women are still not of equal standing than men. In our society, women are of lower status than men. Such as in the workplace, a male employee’s project proposal is favored over a female employee’s proposal because a male superior believes that women cannot construct ideas as well as male employees. This is a result of how our culture has influence our view that women are less superior than men. Our male dominant culture taught us that women are not as capable as men are and that between the two genders, the man is the superior.
In the 19th century women began to take action to change their rights and way of life. Women in most states were incapable to control their own wages, legally operate their own property, or sign legal documents such as wills. Although demoted towards their own private domain and quite powerless, some women took edge and became involved in parts of reform such as temperance and abolition. Therefore this ultimately opened the way for women to come together in an organized movement to battle for their own rights in such ways as equal education, labor, legal reform, and the occupations. As stated in the nineteenth amendment, a constitutional revision that established women’s citizen rights to vote.
The first state to grant women complete voting rights was Wyoming in 1869. Three other western states—Colorado (1893), Utah (1896), and Idaho (1896)—followed shortly after NAWSA was founded. But prior to 1910, only these four states allowed women to vote”(The Women's Rights Movement). During 1910, the word “feminist” surfaced as a term for “new women” and this is what followed their movement; Western states continued to lead the way in granting women’s suffrage. Washington state allowed women the right to vote in 1910. “Between 1910 and 1914, the NAWSA intensified its lobbying efforts and additional states extended the franchise to women: Washington, California, Arizona, Kansas, and Oregon. In Illinois, future Congresswoman Ruth Hanna McCormick helped lead the fight for suffrage as a lobbyist in Springfield, when the state legislature granted women the right to vote in 1913; this marked the first such victory for women in a state east of the Mississippi River”(The Women's Rights Movement). To begin with, there are many events in United States history that have shaped our general understanding of women’s involvement in economics, politics, the debates of gender and sexuality, and so forth. Women for many centuries have not been seen as a significant part of history, however under thorough analyzation of certain events, there are many women and woman-based events responsible for the progressiveness we experience in our daily lives as men, women, children, and individuals altogether. Many of these events aid people today to reflect on the treatment of current individuals today and to raise awareness to significant issues that were not resolved or acknowledged in the past.
On July 19th 1848, the first Women's Convention was held in Seneca Falls, from which 68 women and 32 men participated, to discuss Women's rights and equality to men. During the convention, was written the “Declaration of Sentiments”, document that approached the issues to be overcome by women, including their rights regards: voting; social equality; intellectual capacity; equal payment and right to occupy high positions. Today, one hundred and sixty six years after this convention was held, what have women really accomplished in terms of acceptance and support from our government and society? Researches show that women are still under paid in comparison to men in same positions; women are still struggling to occupy higher positions within the companies they work; society is still imposing to women the main part on parenthood without attributing shared responsibilities to men; government is still lacking support regards laws involving maternity leave and equal pay.
In 1920, the Nineteenth Amendment was sign into the Constitution, granting women the rights to vote.
Woman have been the basis of the earth from the beginning. We have given birth to children, broke our bones for one life form. We have argued for out woman rights and survived discrimination. Patiently, we have waited for this amendment: "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any other State on account of sex."(Social Reform in the Progressive Era, 2015) Woman have sought long and hard to finally be given the right that the seventeenth amendment has given them. The right to equality should be upheld, even in the role of combat. Woman have fought and have been waiting for chance to show what they can to in this modern society, thought their dedication and strength,

In conclusion, women won their currents rights on August 26, 1920 when the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was finally ratified. After about 100 years of Women’s Rights Conventions, petitions, and hard work, women exercised their right to vote for the first time. Before this time, women had gained some rights, but had a long way to go before they had the same rights as they do today.
“The history of the past is but one long struggle upward to equality,” this was stated by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, a very crucial women’s suffragist. Over time, women’s history has evolved due to the fact that women were pushing for equal rights. Women were treated as less than men. They had little to no rights. The Women’s Rights Movement in the 1800’s lead up to the change in women’s rights today. This movement began in 1848 with the Seneca Falls Convention. For the next 72 years, women continually fought for equal rights. In 1920, they gained the right to vote which ended the movement and opened the opportunity for more change in women’s lives. Because of the Women’s Rights Movement, women today are able to vote, receive
When you think of a CEO of a company or of world political leaders, do you think of a man or of a woman? Many, if not most of us, see these positions as being held by men. In this essay, I will explain why women are still not equal to men. In the first paragraph I will discuss inequalities that happen in the workplace. The second section will show the differences that occur within the athletic world. Thirdly, I will explain the differences in education and home life. Even though we are approaching the twenty-first century, women in our society are still not equal to men.
From the beginning of time, females have played a powerful role in the shaping of this world. They have stood by idly and watched as this country moved on without them, and yet they have demanded equal rights as the nation rolls along. Through the years the common belief has been that women could not perform as well as men in anything, but over the years that belief has been proven wrong time and time again. So as time marches on, women have clawed and fought their way up the ladder to gain much needed equal respect from the opposite sex. However, after many years of pain and suffering, the battle for equal rights has not yet been won. Since women have fought for a long time and proven their importance in society, they deserve the same rights as men.
Women have come a long way from being ¡°House-Wives.¡± In many countries, women have little or no power, or role. Furthermore, that is why this country, America, gives freedom to women to carry their own individual dreams out. They paid for their current freedom, suffrage, and liberty by peaceful, yet passionate and touching demonstrating. They have paved the way for the future to evolve and develop.
Throughout history, there have been constant power struggles between men and women, placing the male population at a higher position than the female. Therefore, in this patriarchal system women have always been discriminated against simply due to the fact that they are women. Their rights to vote, to be educated and essentially being treated equally with men was taken away from them and they were viewed as weak members of society whose successes depend on men. However, this has not prevented them from fighting for what they believe in and the rights they are entitled to. On the contrary, it has motivated them to try even harder and gain these basic societal rights through determination and unity.
In the past, many people believed that women’s exclusive responsibilities were to serve their husband, to be great mothers and to be the perfect wives. Those people considered women to be more appropriate for homemaking rather than to be involved in business or politics. This meant that women were not allowed to have a job, to own property or to enjoy the same major rights as men. The world is changing and so is the role of women in society. In today’s society, women have rights that they never had before and higher opportunities to succeed.
