Someone once said friendship is not about whom you’ve known the longest. It’s about who walked into your life; said “I’m here for you and proved it. George did not always show his true feelings around Lennie he would often scold Lennie for always bringing him nothing but trouble. However, George truly loved Lennie as a friend. Lennie would have suffered more in jail then having being killed by George and George didn’t want to witness George his friend being tortured. George killed Lennie out of love and I say this with proof cause in the book he looked away when he shot lennie and if that isn’t an act of love I don’t know what is. George wanted Lennie to remember him as Lennie not the the guy that killed curleys wife. George protected Lennie the only way he knew how by telling Lennie of happy times filling his mind with happy thoughts so when George pulled the trigger Lennie would leave the world on his own terms. This is the ultimate act of love for me cause at the end he managed to save George from an angry lynch mob.

George says quite a bit about how much better his life would be if he didn’t have to take care of Lennie.
If this is true, why does he stay with Lennie? George could have fled at any given moment like I said in my previous paragraphs but he never did he knew that if he did flee who would ever take care of Lennie other than himself. I could say this many times over and over and it wouldn’t get old. As I see it George was more than a friend to Lennie he treated Lennie like his own flesh and blood he treated him like family because he loved
