How Does Poe Characterize In The Raven

My favorite quote by Poe is “Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.” As Poe once said Edgar Allan Poe poems based on the raven and the bells being dark and mysterious. The raven based off his love such as lonore as someone taps on his chamber door nothing appears, hoping it would be lenore or at least hear from her at the end of the story. Then as he asks the bird multiple questions he responds with “nevermore” (Hallqvist). Edgar was born on January 19, 1809 in boston (Seidel). Coming from a broken home as in mother died while he was just two years old and father deserted. Once he went into college he soon went into debt and was kicked out. After

that he stayed with some relatives, which he got close to his cousin then soon In 1836 they got married she was thirteen years old (Price). Which seems bad in today's society but back then it was normal to marry someone younger or a lot older. It was even normal to marry a family member that way they didn't have to change either one of their last names, they could keep it the same.
Poe had many inspirations for his poems, he was very dark and mysterious. Poe believed that a poem's emotional impact was inspired or enhanced by music or sweet sound (Seidel). Another great inspiration was his wife, Virginia. Once she died he wrote many dark and mysterious poems after her death (Seidel). His inspiration with other writers was Charles Baudelaire (Seidel). He had many inspirations but people think because he's all dark and mysterious some people find him creepy was because of his wife dying which of course was a sad loss.
When he first started writing he wrote his first book as he was joining the army (Seidel).

He wrote a very famous poem you may know of as called The raven, which is most likely his most famous poem yet tons of people love it. The raven was about his sorrow and death over Lenore (price). A bird barges into his house repeating the words ´nevermore´. The raven in the story represents grief caused by loneliness and separation caused by Lenore (Price). The raven represents evil and death (price). When poe was writing this instead of a raven he was at a friends house and he thought it would speak. It was originally a parrot but he felt like it did not evoke the right tone (Price). Another famous poem is the bells. He was inspired after his wife's death,

Once he wrote the poem “The bells” he said he could hear bells ringing from his cottage (Kinsella). That's how ha got inspired once his wife died. Once he was writing that he came up with the word ¨tintinnabulation” to describe the bells (Seidel). This poem was not published until after his death. The poem the bells are about hearing all the different types of bells like brass and silver. Happy or sad bells all the different types of bells that matches his moods. One minute it can be happy like wedding bells the next can be sad and depressing like funeral

After college Edgar went to work for the newspaper. Which was called Southern Literary Messenger (Price). A couple years after his wife died everything seemed okay. Then Poe was dying, his last words were ¨Dear god please help my soul¨ (Price). Nobody really knows what he died of, some say alcohol poisoning others say congestion of the brain (Seidel). There is multiple ideas. Only seven people attended his funeral (Kinsella). Fun fact is the day Poe died he was far away from his home his cat also died minutes later than him with being miles apart from each other (Price).
