Survivor Essay H: The wind shrieks as it races past the bare tree branches overhead, leaving them creaking ominously. There is no vegetation in this dead forest, only lifeless trees littering the area for miles around. An area like this would be very difficult to survive in, but with a little creativity, a person could manage until help arrives. B: There are many things that a person needs to survive, but like the situations described in Lee’s TED Talk, “My Escape from North Korea”, “Trapped” by Aron Ralston, and Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand these people needed specific traits to survive their situations. Lee escapes from North Korea and lives in hiding until she has to rescue her family from North Korea. Ralston is canyon climbing when he E: One situation is when she is being questioned by the Chinese Police under the suspicion that she is an illegal immigrant. While some people may have panicked under the questioning, Lee just “Managed to control all of the emotion inside of me, and answer the questions.” (Page 2). A: Because Lee controls her emotions, she stayed calm, and by doing so, Lee manages to dispel any suspicion. The police then let her go, and believes that she isn’t North Korean. If Lee hadn’t stayed calm, then she would have been deported to North Korea, where she would have been whipped or they would kill her. E: Another example of how Lee staying calm under pressure makes her a survivor is when she tries to get her family into South Korea. The officer approaches her and her family, and Lee stands up and tells the officer that they are deaf and dumb people she was chaperoning (Page 2). A: By doing this, Lee has to stay calm, and has to quickly think of a way to save her family. By doing this, she effectively stays calm under pressure and because of that, she and her family survives the situations.
