People changing when they gain power has never been a surprise to society. When people come into power they let the people around them that helped them succeed influence them a little more. Sometimes when you are around people so much you can become like them and not notice it at all. Macbeth was so influenced by his wife at the beginning of the play he became more like her as it went on. So Macbeth changed into something he was not at the beginning because of the people around him.

Macbeth starts losing his mind he hears people saying that he killed the king and then he just starts hallucinating when he sees a dagger "Is this a dagger which I see before me....”(II, I, 33) He is losing his mind and it's because of the people that influenced him. Then when lady Macbeth dies he is just done with life when someone that's been through everything with him he just loses it he says “The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player”(V.V.2). He is basically saying he doesn't care about life and it's nothing more than an illusion now. He is just basically done and everything and everyone have driven him mad.
So over a time, people change, especially because of the people around you.Who you surround yourself with, you become. As you can see in Macbeth he turns crazy, just as lady Macbeth was. He starts getting her mindset and just becomes the guy version of her. She sees that and isn't pleased with all she probably didn't think he would go mad like he did. But he did so she took her own life and then he didn't want to live at all after that. Lady Macbeth is an extremely ambitious woman and wants more than anything for her husband, Macbeth, to be the next King of Scotland. When King Duncan announces that his son, Malcolm, is to be the next King, Duncan’s murder is planned. Lady Macbeth’s crucial role in the play is to persuade Macbeth to carry out the murder of Duncan. In the beginning she is ambitious, controlling and strong. However as the plot concludes there is an extreme change in her character and personality which surprises the audience. Lady Macbeth’s guilt eventually becomes too much for her to handle which leads to her death.
After a long and hard battle, the Sergeant says to King Duncan, “For brave Macbeth,-well he deserves that name,- disdaining fortune, with his brandish’d steel, which smok’d with bloody execution , like valour’s minion carv’d out his passage till he fac’d the slave;” (1.2.16) . This quote shows that Macbeth is viewed as a valiant soldier and a capable leader. However, it does not take long for the real Macbeth to be revealed- a blindly ambitious man, easily manipulated by the prospect of a higher status. His quest for power is what drives his insanity, and after having been deemed the Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth’s ambition can immediately be seen. In a soliloquy, Macbeth says, “Present fears are less than horrible imaginings; my thought, whose murder yet is but fantastica, shakes so my single state of man that function is smother’d in surmise, and nothing is but what is not” (1.3.140). Macbeth has just gained more power, and his immediate thought is of how to gain an even higher status as king. He imagines how to kill Duncan, and then is troubled by his thoughts, telling himself it is wrong. This inner struggle between Macbeth’s ambition and his hesitation to kill Duncan is the first sure sign of his mental deterioration. Although Macbeth does kill Duncan, he questions whether or not he should to do so, which is far different from how Macbeth feels about murder later in the play. As Macbeth becomes less dependent on his wife, she loses more control. She loses control of her husband, but mostly, of herself, proving her vacillating truth. Lady Macbeth’s character gradually disintegrates through a false portrayal of unyielding strength, an unsteady control of her husband and shifting involvement with supernatural powers.Throughout the duration of play Lady Macbeth’s truly decrepit and vulnerable nature is revealed. Lady Macbeth has been the iron fist and authority icon for Macbeth, yet deep down, she never carried such traits to begin with. William Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a play centring around opposing forces trying to gain power in the succession for the throne of Scotland. Macbeth, in the beginning, is known to be a nobel and strong willed man, who is ready to fight for his country. However, one may see that Macbeth has a darker side to him, he is power hungry and blood thirsty, and will not stop until he has secured his spot as King of Scotland. Though Macbeth may be a tyrant, he is very naïve, gullible, and vulnerable. He is vulnerable and willing to be persuaded by many characters throughout the play, his wife, the witches to name a few, this is the first sign that his mental state is not as sharp as others. One will see the deterioration of Macbeth and his mental state as the play progresses, from level headedness and undisturbed to hallucinogenic, psychopathic and narcissistic. The triggering event for his mental deterioration is caused by the greed created from the witches first prophecy, that Macbeth will become King of Scotland (I.iii.53). Because of the greed causing his mental deterioration, Macbeth’s psychosis is what caused his own demise by the end of the play. In Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, the tragic hero Macbeth’s demise is provoked by his hallucinogenic episodes, psychopathic actions and narcissistic behaviours.

The quote talks about his feelings of how life is to him now, with his thoughts of how everyone dies eventually and how life is rather pointless. To understand the change in Macbeth you first have to look at his character. At first he was a noble thane to the king Duncan obeyed his every command. It looked as if not a single bad thought crossed his mind about murder. However Macbeth had a weakness in his character in that he was easily manipulated by the ones close to him and eventually by his own ambitions. It was though Macbeth had a child’s mind because whatever he heard, he would nearly take it completely to heart and believe it to be true. This would soon change his nature and cause him to go from a dignified thane of the king, to a ruthless murder who would act upon his minds every thought.
Macbeth is swaying between the forces of good and evil. He wants to stop killing but he also wants to become king and in his mind the only way to do that is to kill whoever is in his path, saying “I am in blood/ Stepped in so far that, should I wade no more,/ Returning were as tedious as go o'er.” (3.4.168-170). Macbeth is already deep into this situation and if he were to turn back now, it would cause him greater hardship than relief. Macbeth has been dealing with this inner conflict ever since he was told by the weird sisters that he is fated to become king. This conflict ties everything together, between fate versus free will and sane or insane. Macbeth started the play as being a glorified war hero, however as time moved on he transformed into a bloodthirsty tyrant. Macbeth has gone through so much that he has shifted into a guilty man haunted by nightmares and hallucinations but will not stop until he gets what he came for. Macbeth has gone so far into the void of guilt that his name has now fell into infamy, as shown by quote by Young Siward saying “The devil himself could not pronounce a title/ More hateful to mine ear.” (5.7.10-11). Macbeth had already grown a name for himself while he kept his innocence, however with all the killings macbeth has made, he has done nothing but shame his name. His metamorphosis all began with the confrontation with the ‘wayward sisters’. This was an inevitable ‘accident of life’, which was to have serious repercussions on Macbeths future role, as ‘fair is foul and foul is fair’, implying that beneath every human is a potential to be either. Although the stories are based on tyrants and their ability to gain power and pride through the scarification of others, I believe that the authors also attempted to describe the tyrants need to feel praised and express passion and anger. Their determination to reach what is most important to them, is the reason the two tyrants were able to reach absolute power, at different points in their command. Macbeth’s form of ruling was tyrannical in terms of how he reached the epitome of power that he achieved after killing King Duncan.
The mental state of Macbeth transformed greatly from the beginning and to the end of the play. His demise was not all due to him, but the influences he faced throughout the duration of the play. He allowed both the persuasion of outside influences and his ambitious mentality to dictate his thoughts and actions which eventually resulted in mental agony. The prophesies of the witches and the non-ladylike mentality of Lady Macbeth were the primary sources of his madness. It all began in the beginning of the play when the three witches approached Macbeth and provided him with their prophesies of his future.
From the beginning of the play, Macbeth undergoes a complete change in character--from a virtuous nobleman into a monster. He has a tragic weakness--ambition--which, when released, draws him into a web of evil and corruption that finally leaves him with none of the noble human qualities he possessed at the beginning of the play.

Understandably she would like this prophecy to transpire and there is no question that she would be willing to help him gain the title of king. Lady Macbeth comes to the conclusion that to become king Macbeth must kill Duncan.
We see the character of Macbeth go through a personality transformation after a powerful predicament from Three witches. Starting as the highly thought of thane of Glamis, Macbeth is told he shall become thane of Cawdor and then king. The witches, quickly portrayed as evil, could have predicted these events, or simply planted the idea in Macbeth’s head, to exploit his fatal flaw.
