Drill influenced my life completely putting me in tough situations and stress testing me beyond my limit. I was not interested when I first saw drill, but my friends had pressured me into coming into one of the practices. Once practice was over I had gained a new hobby that would turn into a passion. I continued from my sophomore year to the present, as I want to pursue drill further and constantly flourish. There is no other hobby that I enjoy better than drill as it keeps me occupied throughout the day. Drill is not complicated and easier to learn than many other endeavours, but it takes dedication to learn every movement precisely. The main person I turn to to learn more about drill is my friend David who strived further than the team and
On April 9, 1997, Rig 52 that belonged to Mallard Bay Drilling was towed to a location in the territorial waters of Louisiana, where it drilled a well over two miles deep. After the well was almost complete an explosion occurred killing four of the crew and injuring several others. Seeing that this was a marine casualty in navigable U.S. waters, under existing regulations the United States Coast Guard responded. When the investigation was over the Coast Guard did not find any violations of their regulations and noted it was an uninspected vessel and the operator held an Operator Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV) license. Soon after the incident the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited Mallard Bay Drilling for violations
In addition, Dyer writes, “Drill instructors create the illusion that basic training is an extraordinary challenge, one that will set those who graduate apart from others, when in fact almost everyone can succeed” (Dyer 216). This means that the real challenge
First part of drill team is practicing techniques and going to camp. This is one of the first team activities that challenges your team ethics. When you go to camp there are a lot of other teams that are there for the same reasons as your team. Camp testes your ability to work as a team. You’re there dancing literally all day for three days straight leaning new dances.
As a freshman, I was timid and had little to no confidence. When I went to my first drill practice, I felt like I was in my element. Everyone there wanted to be there, they all joined NJROTC because they wanted to. After attending many drill practices, and NJROTC events, I started to come out of my shell. Instead of staying quiet in class, I voiced my opinions more often and sometimes cracked a joke here and there. Then came our first drill competition, where I was the freshman drill squad’s squad leader. At the end of the day we won first place. This taste of victory showed me how a little self confidence can go a long way. Sophomore year went even better. My friend group expanded, as I met more people through NJROTC. Every drill practice became so much more enjoyable, because I found out that I was actually enjoying what I was doing, because the people around me were as well. I became so confident with myself, and more and more people started to look up to me and admire me for how much I had grown. At the end of my sophomore year, I went to Area Four Leadership Academy/Sail Training for two weeks, which was a life changing experience for me. I met cadets from all over my area, and spent every waking moment with the same 35 other cadets who shared the same pas...
There is an abundance of oil underneath earth’s crust on land and in the water but getting to that oil can be proven as a challenge and a negative impact on the earth. Many of these oil reservoirs lie in federally protected land or water to minimize the negative impact on the earth. But should those restrictions be removed? Removing the restrictions can allow the US to tap into domestic reserves rather than rely on imported oil from the Middle East and Asia but tapping these reservoirs can also leave behind an impact that is harmful to this planet. “Critics oppose this move for fear that it will cause irreparable harm environmental harm. They point to the April 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico as evidence of the risks associated with offshore drilling” (SIRS).
After my first year on the team, the coach warmed up to me. He still however, kept his distance, but I learned to rise above him. I played a total of eleven tournaments and even went to the state championship. Golfing on the team made me so mentally strong. I learned that I could do something if I wanted to, even if there was no support for me doing it. I continued to play for the rest of my high school career, and improved with every shot.
The United States relies on imports for about forty percent of its crude oil, which is the lowest rate of dependency since 1991 according to the U.S Energy Information Administration. Today our country is trying to keep on track in becoming less and less dependent. When it comes to the topic of the future ways the United States will get its fuel, most of us readily agree that the United States should become more independent by using natural gas that is already here on our land. Where this argument usually ends, however, is on the question of the consequences drilling for natural gas brings. Whereas some are convinced drilling is safe, others maintain that it is actually in fact dangerous. Hydraulic fracturing or "fracking", the terms for drilling for natural gas, is dangerous to our public health and to the environment because of the water contamination it causes. Therefore, it is not something that should become a project for alternative fuel used by the United States.
Since the age of two, I have been dancing. I have been involved in lyrical and classical ballet, contemporary, pointe, hiphop, jazz and tap. When I turned 6 I also took up gymnastics. Through middle school I danced, and did gymanstics as well as softball and soccer. I loved these sports but when high school hit, I had to pick one and I chose cheerleading. I chose this sport because it was not only a extraordinary team athletically but they were extremely involved with the community. We had fundraisers for less fortunate children multiple times and even got to interact with them every winter. The leadership role on the cheer team taught me so much, we lead the entire student body to have school spirit and respect at the football games every friday night. My senior year I decided to switch back to dance and tried out for my high school dance team, and made it! It has been such a blessing to me by showing me even more leadership and how to serve others at our school and in the community.
To say that practice was physically demanding is an understatement. We had to run around, jump over people, and carry people while we ran around and jumped over people. The fluorescent lights circled around me like a disco ball (sight), and I tasted metal as I pushed myself ...
My dad forced me to play for my middle school team, but I didn’t complain considering I got to play with boys. I was pretty good, too. I was not only playing with these boys, but I was competing with them. Everything was going well. I wasn’t in love with golf, but I didn’t hate it anymore.
There was an event in my life that sort of changed me and that was ROTC because it’s about the military. I joined it because I want to be a marine and go fight for our rights and next to our county. This class has taught me discipline and respect, they have taught me the way of the marine. They taught me to bring credits to my family, county, and schools, to conduct myself of what I need to do to proceed. I have much more respectful and I’m not a kid anymore. I still have a couple habits that I need to change to go into the marines but I know they’ll change. When I’m in this class it makes me want to teach it because the world would be a better place. I really like that I was taught this because it’s going to help me suicide in life, it’s going
My sporting career started off as a sure second baseman with a left handed batting stance that stifled little league pitchers. I also tried my hand at tackle football where I was a three yards and a cloud of dust running back and I am proud to say I never fumbled the ball once. I even tried out for my 8th grade basketball team having never played an organized game in my life. I luckily drained a couple threes in try-outs and happily accepted my role as an end of the bench hype man. All four years of high school I was a member of the crew team; this is where I learned the
...some drills that can be taught during practice, to improve an individual’s volleyball skills. Keeping in mind that the individuals participating in volleyball have the skill to perform new skills but only dependent on the ability of presentation. By performing the drill in a group then breaking it up into the key components (serve, dig, set and spike) the player will be able to have specific points to remember and not be overloaded with knowledge all at once. While the key points are highlighted to the players have them emulate an individual demonstrating a skill and assess each player individually with personal instruction.
I thoroughly enjoyed my student life by organizing social activities and participating in various sports events. Throughout my dental school, I won the "Sportsman Award" and captained my team to national level medical/dental college competitions. The game of cricket taught me how to analyze, w...
In the beginning I had a hard time finding what topic to do because I don’t do many activities of things that relate to my life. I could only think about things with my family, but none have interesting questions. I eventually chose dance because there are many components of dance that I don’t even think about. I began to wonder; why dance? How does it benefit me?
