In the story “The Crucible”, I believe that the characters Abigail and the many other girls pretending to see a witch could have stopped the hysteria Due to this claim, I provide reasons and evidence of each time they could have ended it all. The story “The Crucible” has a dramatic and active cast of characters, which shows early in the story. A character named Abigail has mainly started the hysteria due to her claims on John Proctor's wife, Elizabeth Proctor. Parris accuses a slave girl named Tituba of being a witch due to seeing her, “waving her arms over a fire and I heard screeching and gibberish coming from her mouth.” Parris then accuses of seeing the girls and Abigail dancing naked around a pot of boiling liquid that a frog jumped into. …show more content…

Abigail shuts a girl up to prevent her from ever saying it to the higher-ups, this is where she could’ve stopped. If she admitted what she did that night, she could have saved herself and the other girls from being accused and lying. Parris keeps an eye on them because they suddenly frame John Proctor's wife and pretend she is on the roof. These girls pointed fingers at anyone they could, only to not like them. My claims come from the obvious reason that Abigail is the main source of starting it all. People will say that she dug too deep but there is always a way out, during the court, Abigail could have stated everything she said was a lie and pointed out the other girls were faking due to them playing along so Abigail does not hurt
