As the viewers continue on with watching their favorite shows, did they asked themselves how our favorite shows reacted? Producers, directors, writers, actors/actresses, and all of Hollywood needed to go back and create and recreate television and for our nation. As television networks continue to broadcast, viewers noticed major changes on television episodes that aired before the attacks and deleted scenes that involves bombs, explosions, and the Twin Towers shown on television. There are a few of TV examples that affected 9/11. HBO series The Sopranos (2000-2007) opening credits (see Fig. 1) was seen with the World Trade Center shown on the car mirror and was removed by reediting the opening. An episode of Spongebob Squarepants (1999-) Just …show more content…
One Bite, had one scene footage deleted where Squidward attempts to steal and taste a Krabby Patty from the Patty Vault, but it was secured with a cheap security system that involves a bucket of gas and a match eventually burns him and explodes the front of the fast-food outlet (see fig.2). The TV network never explained why the scene was deleted, kids from that generation wouldn't understand what was going in the world. The Fig. 2: “Just One Bite” episode aired on October 5, 2001 Source: YouTube/Nickelodeon most respectful thing was that the writers and the animators had to delete to respect the victims of the terrorist attacks. Another example involves an opening theme (see Fig.3) to Season One’s Pokemon (1998-) where a giant Pokemon, Tentacruel, destroyed the skyscraper. The scene was part of the banned episode, however it did not remove it from the opening. Lastly, on Friends (1994-2004) Fig. 3: Opening to Pokemon Season 1 Source: YouTube season 8 episode, “The One Where Rachel Tells…”, shows an episode where Chandler and Monica could not aboard on the plane because Chandler made a joke about a bombing in an airport. Eventually, the scene was deleted after the attacks and the writers had to rewrite the script and reshoot the scene. The next episode of Friends later showed a tribute to the 9/11 victims at the end of the episode, even though the series was set in New York. Censorship is very important to the entertainment industry, according to Spigel, “At the most basic level, for television executives who were nervous about offending audiences, history was a solution to a programming dilemma”(241). Especially, being extra careful of referring to the 9/11 attacks will put the producers at risk of controversy. Not only television made changes, but the film industry did had to reevaluate the films before and after the attacks.
The film industry had to postpone and/or cancel the film shooting in New York and took the time to rewrite the script. If the producers and directors are planning the set the movie in New York City, they need to be aware that “while they are filming in New York in the wake of the devastation…went to great lengths to avoid any references to the tragedy”(Harrison-Kahan). A large number of films set in New York had the Twin Towers in the background shot and it needed to be either digitally removed, delete the scene altogether, or leave it as it is; except for films that are set on a time period before 9/11 by digitally adding the Twin Towers. It is indeed hard for Hollywood to rethink and follow the guidelines to censorship and avoid offending the audiences who experience trauma over 9/11. Author Lori Harrison-Kahan writes, “In the aftermath of 9/11, Hollywood feared that its standard fare of murder and mayhem might alienate American [audiance], from those who directly witnessed, experienced, and lost loved ones in the attacks to those compelled to watch the towers fall over and over…”(42). So, audiences will fear that, for example, action movies will contain explosions and collapsed buidings. It is best for people who experience lost and witnessing the attack to avoid certain genres that will cause them
trauma.
9/11 was one of the most devastating events in American History. Four hijacked passenger airplanes killed almost three thousand people. 9/11 changed millions of lives forever. American Citizens didn’t feel safe. This attack was a wake-up call to American security. 9/11 forced the country to acknowledge its shortcomings and fix them, before any more harm could come upon the United States of America. 9/11, as all acts of terror do, promoted the growth of technology, in this case, security in the United States. 9/11 also brought about feelings of hatred to the country. The United States soon became known as one of the most intolerable nations on this planet. Lastly, 9/11 butchered the economy and forced it down a long road to recovery.
War is not a cheap man’s game. At the core of every nation sits an economy comprised of varying wealth and resources. A nation’s prosperity is dependent on its economic fortitude. In a constant state of fluctuation, economic prosperity is often fleeting, with a single event capable of causing economic turmoil for decades to come. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 acted as a catalyst for economic change in the United States. The attacks presented isolated economic desolation, but the growing concern for security and the war on terror provided the greatest economic impact for the United States and the world.
The attacks that occurred on 9/11 took place on September 11th, 2001. In this devastating event, four different attacks had taken place. Each of the attacks were carried out by terrorists. The group responsible for the attack was Al-Qaeda, a militant Islamist organization that is known to be global in present day. The group itself has a network consisting of a Sunni Muslim movement that aims to make global Jihad happen. Furthermore, a stateless, multinational army that is ready to move at any given time. This terrorist group focuses on attacking non-Sunni Muslims, those who are not Muslim, and individuals who the group deems to be kafir. Ever since the late 1980s, Al-Qaeda has been wreaking havoc all around the world. The leader of the group once being Osama bin Laden. Three planes were bound for New York City while another plane headed towards Washington, D.C. which was supposed to take out the U.S. Capitol. Two of the airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center. One plane hitting the North Tower and the other hitting the South Tower. The third plane had crashed into the Pentagon taking out the western side of the building. The last and final plane was focused solely on taking out the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. but failed due to passengers of the plane coming hijacking it from the hijackers. The passengers attempted to take out the hijackers but sadly failed, crashing it into a field in Pennsylvania. Throughout the content of this paper, we will be focusing on the role of media when it comes to 9/11; more specifically: how the media's coverage of 9/11 manipulated our feelings towards 9/11, how it affected Islamophobia in America, and the lasting effects of 9/11.

September 11, 2001 is known as the worst terrorist attack in United States history. On a clear Tuesday morning, there were four planes that were hijacked and flown into multiple buildings by a terrorist group named al Qaeda. This group, led by Osama bin Laden, killed nearly 3,000 people. Out of those 3,000 people more than 400 police and 343 firefighters were killed along with 10,000 people who were treated for severe injuries. Many lives were taken, and to this day, people still suffer from the attack. September 11th is the most influential event of the early twenty-first century because it made an increase in patriotism, it caused a rise in security throughout the nation, and it had a tremendous effect of thousands of lives.
Even though people aren't seen throwing themselves out the windows like in other images it is said that a spiritual image was seen in the smoke of that tower. September 11 is a day full of nightmares for many individuals.
After the tragic event that occured on September 11, 2001- what do you think will start happening? Possibly racism, strengthening and tightening security, and even start limiting some laws that were relaxed before? They were all introduced to society, which means it would always impact our lives in someway or another that we leave us reminiscing on this wretchedly terrible event. Although this event occurred more than a decade ago, the major lasting impact it had on our society is more than likely permanent. The impact being how the people, and their government see, react, and feel about our people, mainly starting with how the people saw our people:
In ceramics, I mess around with my friends but still get my work done at the same time and have fun doing it. 9-11 has definitely taught my parents that no matter how safe you think you are that anything can happen at anytime so you have to always be cautious. My parents moved to UA 23 years ago from Grandview. They wanted to move here because they knew they wanted to have a family, UA had great school systems, and it is very safe. My parents have molded me into the person I am today. They have taught me the right and wrong things to do in life, how to be kind to everybody, and how it is important to be loyal to friends and family. They have told me to always keep strong relationships with your family because in the end they're all you'll have.
The amount of money the New York City lost was so much due the massive attack to the World Trade Center in 2001. However, when the both towers were destroyed, they also destroyed many other places in the lower Manhattan as well. Even, subway stations were destroyed as well. The Smoke was very heavy due to the falling of the both buildings and it caused many subways to stop working and many other subway stations to close that was nearby the twin towers. New York City was required to clean everything that was destroyed and it caused the city a lot of money. Bram, Jason; Orr, James; Rapaport, Carol, stated “The total cost of the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center-comprising earnings losses, property damage, and the cleanup and restoration
Hijackers rammed jetliners into each of New York's World Trade Center towers yesterday, toppling both in a hellish storm of ash, glass, smoke and leaping victims, while a third jetliner crashed into the Pentagon in Virginia. There was no official count, but President Bush said thousands had perished, and in the immediate aftermath the calamity was already being ranked the worst and most audacious terror attack in American history.
People are evil at heart because they choose to kill innocent people and attack other people with different beliefs.
As the American society grows, with each passing day getting farther from the event that changed the world, we have grown to ignore the events of September 11th. I was only two when September 11th happened, and I have grown up in the society that was shaped by September 11th. The American society has completely changed because of the events on September 11th. Since the September 11th attacks, the US has grown and created new intelligence offices, redefined what it means to fly, and has been involved in many different ongoing wars. This new America that we live in is like something out of the book, 1984 by George Orwell, where everyone is constantly being observed by the imaginary “Big
On September the 11th, 2001, the first of four hijacked commercial airliners flew into the north building of the twin towers located in New York City. As the news unfolded, it first appeared to be an accident of a plane flight gone wrong. It did not take long, minutes, as the second hijacked plane crashed into the south tower. The news media was in a frenzy as this was the biggest media event in history (Cary 2011). Round the clock televised news was on every network.
The Twin Towers fell when I was only five years old. My mother refused to let me outside and cancelled the pulmonology appointment I had. My mother and America alike, shivered in fright because of the violence. Though thirteen years later we celebrate the birthday of the attack. Morning news channels talk about the event and show the first tower going down, then the second. The horror, shocking people to fear the attackers and anyone that looks like them. This terrorism has egged on a frivolous war that has only created more violence and casualty.
On September 11, 2001 so many people tried to log onto the internet to get information about the terrorist attacks, that there was a huge jam. No one could get online. Modern technology, televisions, radios and scanners rescued our curious minds. Most everyone found himself or herself glued to the television, watching the gruesome scenes over and over again, after the computers had failed us.
