The study basically suggests that couples through time tend to become more similar because they spend more time together and adapt to their partners’ lifestyle and different ideas. Five factors that suggest how similar the personalities are were examined, which are openness, eroticism, conscientiousness, agreeableness, and extroversion. These factors were examined by making the couple reflect two times, upon themselves and their partner through online surveys and questionnaires. In fact, both eroticism and conscientiousness are greatly affected through time. As the duration of the relationship increases, couples become more similar in terms of these two factors, so overall, their similarity increases. Personally, I think that conscientiousness, …show more content…
Also, the nonverbal cues, such as rolling one’s eyes, loud sighing, or throwing hands up in disgust, undercut the ability to work through problems and challenges. That’s why partners should be able to recognize their feelings and how they react in order to avoid falling into the trap of the nonverbal cues. This shows how both self-awareness and emotional expression are related, and when both are improved, partners tend to feel that they are more similar, because they perfectly know how to avoid what alienates their partner and how to emotionally express themselves and what particularly their partner needs in order to feel appreciated. So, they will be careful when it comes to their self-awareness and emotional expression capabilities. Additionally, assertiveness which is the ability to communicate clearly, specifically, and unambiguously, while at the same time being sensitive to the needs of others and their responses in a particular encounter is very essential in relationships. Partners should be able to disagree with one another and communicate their different perspectives without crossing the
In every society nonverbal communication is one of the most powerful tools that a person can use to interpret the message that is being delivered. Even though verbal communication is fairly straightforward, nonverbal communication allows others to sense the true emotions of the person that is expressing them. For example even though a person may say that they are not irritated, their usage of voice may display otherwise. Nonverbal communication not only reveals hidden messages, but it also complements, substitutes, and exaggerates verbal communication.
We all have a certain way of communicating that seems evident and natural to us, so we can be shocked, frustrated, or even sadden when someone misinterprets us. Interacting with other people is part of our daily lives, yet men and women have different styles of communication and behavior. Some of the major differences between men and women are how they express emotion, affection or intimacy, and communication. Women tend to be more emotional and express more affection, whereas men are far less emotional and express less affection. Women regard intimacy as talking face-to-face; however, men regard intimacy as working or playing side-by-side. Women tend to ask more questions when communicating while men ask fewer or no questions at all. These
I agree with the statement above on the basis that communication is the most important thing when it comes to working in unison.
Our behavior or conflict style tells a lot about us as humans. It is an important piece of life’s puzzles, and how we go about living a healthy life. Our particular path decides where conflict will lead to, or if it could be resolved quickly with everyone feeling content. However, our non-verbal behavior could indicate when a person is upset or anoid. This is usually related to unmet needs or goals (Steve A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191).
The more you get to know someone, the more you are able to make better decisions and judgments for not just yourself, but for your partner as well. How a couple handles issues while

Evolutionary framework for human mating is based on three elements. First, strategies for mating developed to solve specific problems in human evolutionary history. Second, people behave differently depending on the type of mating involved. There are two types of mating, short term and long term mating. Short term mating is defined as casual sex (i.e. one-night stands and brief affairs). Long term mating is seen as a committed relationship (i.e. dating, going steady, and marriage). Third, males and females developed different strategies due to the difference in problems they have had over the course of human evolution (Buss 241). This paper will examine those strategies specific to males.
Meaningful communication between two or more individuals rarely leads to 100% agreement between all parties involved. More commonly, there are disagreements on certain points. In a close relationship like a marriage, which is also a partnership; in a strong business relationship; or in a hostage situation, these disagreements must be worked out satisfactorily for both sides in order for the relationship to remain healthy and/or the outcome to be positive. When the parties must reach an agreement or a compromise, one of the best communication strategies is negotiation.

Emotions play a significant part in our daily lives, especially to our overall wellbeing whenever we share these experiences with other people. The ability to express and interpret emotions is an important skill that everyone can improve on that would greatly benefit their interpersonal communication. Our expressions accompany our emotions; they serve as windows that allow other people to know what we are feeling inside. There are several factors that influence how we communicate our feelings.
Despite how us humans are prone to communication, communication is a complex phenomena. That is why Personal and Scholarly concepts are made, to act as a guide, making communication easy. Personal theories are based on, one’s own observation about how they themself communicate. Scholarly theories and concepts are based on evidence and research. Though the fundamentals of personal and scholarly theory are different, they can often relate to each other. My two personal theories are related to non-verbal communication. While conversing, I have a tendency to avoid eye contact. I usually have to refrain myself from averting my eyes while conversing. My other non-verbal theory is about how I give different types of hugs, depending on the relationship
Savvy nonverbal emotional communication is also an extremely important resource for managing and avoiding conflict. No part of nonverbal communication speaks louder than your emotions – and nothing can have greater influence over others.
There is thus an implied willingness from each side to not only listen, but also to find common ground.
... understand the other side’s point of view. All parties are able to identify areas of agreement and disagreement, creatively explore and evaluate alternatives, and select solutions to which they are all committed. Though collaborating is the only win-win approach preferred to resolving conflicts in many situations, there is time and place for the other styles as they may better meet the needs of the situation.
To be partners in life, and to be happy in the union, couples should be open and honest, love and respect each other. This should be the "way of the world".
