Past events help shape and define our future. Advancements from past events can range anywhere from cooking to finding cures for diseases. These advancements come from experiments or tests; even if they fail, the results still help further advancements. In American history, there have been numerous advances in medical, technological, and military fields; because of these, there is hope that future generations will continue to make advancements.
There have been many medical advancements in the past, such as stem-cell research, HPV vaccine, and targeted cancer treatment. Stem cell research was first reported in 1998, it was performed on a mouse, the use of stem cells is still in trial, but improvements are still being made. HPV vaccine prevents infection of human papillomavirus types that associate with many cancers such as: cervical cancer, vaginal and vulvar cancers, anal cancer, and throat cancer, an Australian

Technology is a big field and there is always advancements being made. Communications has evolved a lot over the years from bag phones to smart phones. A big technological advancement is computers. Originally, computers were not for email and entertainment, but for serious number crunching. Another area where there is major technological advancement is transportation. We use transportation in everyday life. Transportation started with human or animal power now it is solar powered and electric cars. The military helps create advancements in other fields, not just its own. Weapons in the military have gone from revolver to the drone. Drones are used in situations where it is too risky or difficult for a solder. Drones also are an advancement in the military technique field they help with surveillance. The military also made advancements in transportation. The military can now be transported by helicopter rather than convoy or
The study of past events have been a common practice of mankind since the verbal telling of stories by our ancestors. William Cronon, in his article “Why the Past Matters,” asserts that the remembrance of the past “keeps us in place.” Our individual memories and experiences shape how we act in our daily lives. In addition to influencing us at an individual level, our collective history binds us together as a society. Without knowing where we have been or what we have experienced, it is nearly impossible to judge progress or know which courses of action to pursue. The goal of the historian is to analyze and explain past events, of which they rarely have firsthand memory of, and apply the gained knowledge to make connections with current and future events.
...ccomplishments. As the years progress, just as they have in the past, so will military technology. Not more 80 years ago, the United States was just learning how to se machine guns. Not more than 60 years ago, the United States was just learning how to use tanks and artillery. Nowadays, the US military has become the leading war machine in all aspects of warfare including weapons, computer technology and biological as well as chemical warfare. God only knows what advancements are to come our way.
During the past years of the 1900s many factors have happened that resulted in the change of the United States history and future. It changed the everyday lives of Americans of how they survived and supported themselves and their family, in both positive and negative ways that affected them daily. For instance, the political affairs of the government and the election of candidates for certain parties like democratic or republican can affect the history of the country, on how the government or Congress passed laws that were of equal protection to its people and how it helps benefit both civilians and the nation itself. On social occasions this could affect the United States history because it is solely based on how the people will react and respond to a certain topic, action, or movement. Their opinions may differ depending on where they stand, on how they look at it from their perspective in their belief on morals, religion, or sense of patriotism to the United States. Advancements in technology affect the nation’s history as well because the improved technology in the 1900s provided many uses for the Americans. The basis of these technologies were to offer entertainment, transportation, communication, military, and also for labor tasks and work. But the events that occurred during 1945-1980s also established these significant altercations in history; were of either social, like The Beatles. And of a political event such as the Korean War that occurred in 1953. Also, a technological event like as the innovation of the world’s first personal computer. Whether the effects of these three events were of negative or positive, these three incidents led to the change in the...
Because stem cells are essentially a blank slate, scientists are theoretically capable of growing any human tissue cell. There is enormous medical potential in this. Stem cell research is the next step in advancing the medical field. It is comparable to the discovery of penicillin or the inoculation for smallpox.
To some, World War II may seem like a great war that happened a long time ago, a war where however great the innovations during the war were, they are much out of date now, and so they have no impact on today’s world. But to another, who understand the world and how it grows, realize that wherever a nation is, it is in that position because of its history. This means that without all of the improvements of technology during World War II, the world as we know it today would be very much different on many levels. One of the levels which has a great impact on today’s world would be the improvements of technology. But as what was said before, almost anything new cannot be created without first developing the old. Therefore, one must look back at the past to not only find the origins of World War II, and its impact, but also to World War I, and not only did it set the groundwork this massive growth of advancement, but without these technologies, then those who won, may have lost, therefore altering history.
The most advanced technology today is satellites. They help us uncover history and track weather.
In the novel The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan portrays the effects of childhood events on the roles and attitudes of the present lives each character must face. Particularly, Lena St. Clair felt restricted by her mother as she shields her from the dangers of the outside world. Consequently, when Lena did face trouble, she was unable to fight back and saw evil in everything she saw. Furthermore, the constant conflict that arose from the male superiority in Ying-Ying’s marriage and her miscommunications with her husband influenced Lena’s present behavior. Instead of expressing her own concerns, Lena allows her husband to make major decisions. Influenced by her childhood experiences and the troubles of the marriage between her parents, Lena inherits a passive role in her relationship to Harold.
The major technology change that has had the greatest impact on the quality of my life is the spread of uses for the Internet. The wide range of uses for the internet has extremely benefited my life. I use the Internet to keep in touch with my family from College and with my brother who is in the Air Force in Georgia. I also use the Internet to talk to my long-distance boyfriend so my phone bill doesn't get too large. I also use the Internet in a highly educational way. Not only can I take my college courses online (which is much better for me because I teach myself much better than a professor or teacher can teach me), but it can teach me about anything else I would like to know.
To conclude, while most of these technologies would most likely have been discovered and improved upon without the influence of war the process was sped up to meet the urgency presented with conflicts. Everyone is affected by at least one of these technologies on a daily basis whether it is derived from the materials, weapons, transportation, medical, or communications sectors. Technology allows Americans to live easier lives and although the many soldiers who have served their country did not actually create the technology, their sacrifices that led to the funding and need for improvements. Everyone should think about where their cell phones and computers came from and what others did to give everyone the freedom to use these devices.
Many of the advances in the recent years go to creating new treatments for diseases. Over 58% of all deaths in the United States in 1994 were due to AIDS, cancer, and types of heart diseases (ieeeghn.org). Today this percentage has been lowered drastically thanks to new medications and improved medical procedures in the medical field provided by biomedical engineers. If not for biomedical engineering new medicine wouldn’t be developed.
Drones will help reduce cost of funding the military. Drones will replace different types of supplies and weapons. There will no longer be a need many military tanks. With the money that the government saved on the army, the government could use that money more useful things that can benefit the future of the country in a good way.
Though the past may bring "a revival and restoration of the misery"(Limerick 473), I believe it is necessary to know and study our past. Through this essay I shall explain how knowledge of the past helps improve the quality of future output, satisfy our human thirst for knowledge, and understand certain polices and regulations.
Another example of the change in our technology over the last century is the change in the computer. In 1946, the first electronic computer called the ENIAC took up the space of a large room. Instead of using transistors and IC chips, the ENIAC used vacuum tubes. Compared to many computers now, the ENIAC is about as powerful as a small calculator. That may not be much, but it is a milestone because there would not be computers today if it were not for the ENIAC. As the years passed, the computer became smaller and more powerful. Today, more than half of the American population has a computer in their home. The personal computers today are thousands of times more powerful than the most powerful computers fifty years ago.

Technology is one of the groundbreaking inventions humans have come up with. Technology nowadays is so broad there are thousands upon thousands of companies out there with their only intention is to make better technology. Back when it first came out they thought it was going to evolve extremely fast and flying cars would be out in 30 years and such. It’s not evolving at an extraordinary rate, but it’s still evolving at an extremely fast rate.
