Reading is timeless. A thoughtful and enticing book can inspire endless imagination and thoughts. Reading is limitless. Books can be about anything and the words give the reader infinite emotions. No two books are quite the same, and no two books make the reader feel the same way. Books provide a pathway to escape the real world to enter the imaginative world. Time becomes obsolete while reading. The story is out there, ready to be read, it is only a question of when the reader finishes. The act of reading makes me lose track of time. I can read for hours and not feel as if any time has passed.

Non-fiction brings the reader back to a different time and shows perspective from that time period. Fiction takes the reader to an entirely new world with different laws, society, and rules to explore. The power of books to escape reality is their greatest achievement. No one would bother reading a book if nothing is gained. When reading books, knowledge is gained, and a new perspective is opened. Every book comes from a different perspective, every author has had different life experiences which contribute to the diversity of books and subject matter inside. When you read, especially fiction, you experience a broad sweep of human life. You gain access to the thoughts of others, look at history through another person’s eyes and learn from their mistakes, something that you otherwise would not be able to experience.
Arp and Johnson are correct, “Literary fiction plunges us, through the author’s imaginative vision and artistic ability, more deeply into the real world, enabling us to understand life’s difficulties and to empathize with others.” To have that ability to understand and share the feelings of another through words on a paper is powerful. You see the truth through many authors’ eyes and make the scenario in your mind only wanting to understand every aspect of what’s going on and what’s going to happen and after you come out in the oddest way with this new visionary on things after just reading something so small.
As Harper Lee said, "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view. . . until you climb into his skin and walk around in it. " Novels construct relatable characters and create an effective plot that progresses through the evolution of the central characters.
Over the years, as time passes by I have become to better understand myself and learn what captures and disappoints my attention. As a young boy I would think no books pertaining to school or gaining beneficial knowledge would ever interest me. As I read and learned about different cultures and heard mesmerizing stories of Prophets I became eager to read more along with interesting worldly based novels. Miraculous real life events and interesting action based novels are the only stories that grab my attention. This has been the case for me for some time and I continue to learn and explore to see what else I can find that interests me.
Although a novel is usually fictional most are written off real life experiences and feelings. Novels can enhance the feelings of what realism dumbs down to straight facts.
I read because it brings me pleasure and because I never want to stop learning. Recently I have been reading a lot of multicultural women's literature and Victorian medical textbooks.

Reading and books became a real struggle for me from elementary all the way to high school because I found it hard to comprehend the books that I was made to read. These books were not interesting to me and I found myself starring at pages for hours at a time and would not know or understand what I read.
Ever since I was a child, I've never liked reading. Every time I was told to read, I would just sleep or do something else instead.
