"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them," said Walt Disney. Walt Disney was an American entrepreneur, animator, cartoonist, voice actor, and film producer. Disney is well known for the corporation he founded. The Disney Corporation engraved his name on its theme parks, channels, animations, and movies. Walt Disney exemplifies the American Dream by accomplishing goals and dreams, and creating a legacy that lived on for centuries.
Walt Disney's Background Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois to Elias and Flora Call Disney on December 5, 1901. He was from an Irish, Canadian, and German family and as a young child his family was impoverished. His family moved to Burbank, California to seek gold and settled on a farm. At this time, Walt had no formal schooling and drew animations for his neighbor's entertainment. In order to make money, Disney first worked driving an ambulance. Using this money, he created a small company with Ub Iwwerks, but it only survived a month before going bankrupt. However, they created "Laugh-O-Grams" and this was Disney's first success in the entertainment industry. A few years later, he moved to California to be with his brother, Roy. They signed a contract with New York cartoon distributor, M.J. Winkler. Less than a year later, Walt and Roy owned a store called "Disney Bros. Studios", which was later renamed to "Walt Disney Studio". Even at this time, Disney was struggling financially, at one point he married an employee. He said, "I couldn't afford to pay her, so I married her!" Despite the financial struggles, he continued to create animations which marked the beginning for the Disney entertainment empire.
