There were many important people in English philosophy that influenced the way people thought. Thomas Hobbes is one of those people. He was an English philosopher who thought differently than other people from his day. He had an original view about how people are and the type of government that should exist. He influenced other philosophers from his day and he even continues to influence people today. Thomas Hobbes was an important philosopher because of his political philosophy and because he wrote many famous books. Thomas Hobbes’ political philosophy made him a very important and influential philosopher. He had a belief on how people were and what government should exist. He believed that people are selfish creatures at their core. He said that in a state of nature humans would act selfishly and that war comes easier to humans than political order. He said that in that state of nature the life of a man would be solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. He believed that only a strong government would save the people from their selfishness. The political turmoil of the civil war caused him to leave England for 11 years from 1640 to 1651. He went to France to preserve his personal safety. The things he experienced during the civil war changed his ideas about how humans were and he developed his own ideas about how they were. Those ideas are what made him famous and very influential. He also was famous because of the government that he proposed. The reason why he proposed that government is because he didn't like the civil war and all of the bad things that were happening.
