Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. He was one or even the greatest inventor ever in history. His inventions changed how the world used them leading to many other incredible inventions. Without Edison, we would never be at the point the world is at right now. No one will ever be as successful at inventing as he did. Edison had over 1,000 patents for his multiple inventions, and many places and people helped him along his journey to accomplish this. Edison's most famous and most likely the most important was the light bulb. "What Edison invented was a small, cheap way of using electricity to produce light" (Rowland-Entwistle 29). This cheap and reliable source of light would then light up the whole world, later innovated to be bigger and brighter. What would the world do without light at night? "Edison invented the world's first method of recording and playing back sound, the phonograph" (Grimes). The phonograph made it so the world could watch movies and tv shows on television. Edison also invented the kinetoscope, which was the first successful moving picture devices that allowed people to watch movies and tv shows as well. At this time his inventions started to increase as he had more time to invent. For a couple of years, Edison worked out of Newark, New Jersey. Then, "He built a large estate and research laboratory in West Orange, New Jersey, with facilities including a machine shop, a library and buildings for metallurgy, chemistry, and woodworking" ("Thomas Edison").
