During the 1700s the Industrial Revolution first began in Britain , but traveled throughout Europe and the United States into the 1900s. Many inventors invented items to make going through life during this time much easier, technology improved, their were many changes in society, and working conditions improved shortly after. During the course of the industrial period technology improved tremendously with the help of many inventors. In 1862 the Pacific Railway Act was passed which helped the improvements of railroads this helped make transportation easier and cheaper (Doc.1). Shortly after the Bessemer process was invented by William Kelly and Henry Bessemer, this process led to the railroad expansion (Chpt.22,pg 258). During this time the
Scribbling-Machines were invented causing many men to lose their jobs, because the machines could do the amount of work that up to ten men could do in twelve hours, they could also work day and night.Although this was a downfall for many workers losing their jobs it was also a major improvement during this time (Doc 2). Another inventor whose invention was an successful is Henry Ford. Henry created an assemble line which was used to speed up production in the factories and it also kept the workers from having to constantly move around while working instead they just stood in one place (Chpt 21,pg 252). By the end of the 1700s England had produced over 50,000 bolts of fabric due to the spinning frame that was made to make stronger and thinner thread.(Chpt 21,pg248). The Industrial Revolution also came with many changes in society. During this time girls between the ages of sixteen and twenty five had to work in order for the male members of their family so that they could get an education and become a man (Doc.4). The girls who worked were also considered the lowest among all women during this time (Doc.4).The industry started to led workers away from home and their families.Middle class women stayed home and cared for the children while the husband went on to work which lead to them being referred to as “separate spheres” (Chpt 21,pg 255).
The impact of the Industrial Revolution was a positive experience for some, but it was a great difficulty for others. Because of the demands for reform and protection for workers arose, government and unions began to take place. That was how the evils of the Industrial Revolution addressed in England in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
The most successful businessmen during the industrial revolution believed that who they set themselves up with determined whether or not they would be successful. This statement is true because a successful person needs to make partnerships and deals to grow a company or business. Although some of these men are very accomplished, they make bad decision.
Advancements in new technology clearly promoted the industrial growth of the United States. The new technologies allowed business owners to reduce labor in the movement of materials from one point to the other. This occurred by using the new technology of railroads and machinery. Business owners used the railroads to transport their finished product and raw materials around the country more efficiently, which enabled businesses to expand. The business owners were now able to use machines for lifting materials from one floor to another and to use conveyer belts to move materials around on an assembly line. The use of machines is evident because the graph in document 5 clearly shows that American industrial and agricultural power sources between 1850 and 1900 changed. This is evident because in 1850, only 13% human power and 35% water and coal power was used, but in 1900 a mere 5% human power and a whopping 73% water and coal power was used. The use of machines more than doubled over the course from 1850-1900, and the human output de...
The industrial revolution started around 1750. It began in Britain and it spread through out the World. England was known as “the world’s workshop” because at that point in time, England was the major manufacturing center of the World.(Bailey) It took about ten years for the industrial revolution to spread to other places. It spread to America. The Industrial Revolution was favorable to the American colonies by bringing the factory system to America, supplying more employment which increased urban growth, and raising the national economy.
The Industrial Revolution was the major advancement of technology in the late 18th and early 19th century that began in Britain and spread to America. The national and federal government helped the United States grow into a self reliant nation with improvements in transportation, technology, manufacturing and the growth of the population.

The Industrial Revolution began over two centuries ago and has had a major impact on every current world power. It began in a group of islands off the North West coast of Europe and has been imitated or tried by every nation looking to increase its wealth and power throughout the world. Industrialization came out of the basic ideas of capitalism because it fostered individuals who were willing to take high risks in hopes of high returns on their investments. These investments included factories and machines that would be put to use by people to better their standard of living. These entrepreneurs would return their profits back to the expansion and improvement of their factories and machines.
In the 18th century an abundance of revolutions occurred. In many people's lives a spark for change overcame them. Many began questioning the authorities and beliefs they were forced to follow before using scientific methods. During the 18th century England benefited from the Industrial Revolution in a small extent. First, the cities of England became extremely unsanitary and very crowded. Next, the working conditions within factories were brutal and terrible for the workers. On the other hand, people were still able to benefit from the growth of transportation and increased amount of goods.
The Industrial Revolution in Britain’s history is marked as the period of great development that led to the modern era of growth, improved living standards and technology. Moreover, this revolution was not just limited to Britain; it affected the rest of Europe and America in the same positive manner. Due to the Industrial Revolution’s success in many countries, it is now commonly cited as the surest way for a country to develop. In economics, goals of a developed country are high production of goods, high Gross Domestic Product (GDP), low unemployment and sustained growth; during an Industrial Revolution all these are achieved. However, despite the main goal of IR to improve living standards for the population, the actual success when weighed against the social cost is debatable. It is accepted that IR improved the living standards of many; it created a new class, which Marx called the “bourgeoisie”, who had control over wealth, decisions and helped improve the lives of many others. However, many historians view this new class as “rapacious landlords and conscienceless capitalist[s]” [9] who exploited the working class for their own benefit. For a majority of “the working class… ‘Industrial Revolution’ … must have appeared… as a gigantic and cruel experiment, which, insofar as it was affecting their house, their health, their subsistence and their pleasure, was proving a calamitous failure” [9]. Therefore, this group will be examined to determine more general effects of IR on the society.
Everyone is aware that the Industrial Revolution occurred during the 1830’s and has been more or less consistent since then. However, it seems the issues and the problems between then and now have shifted in a direction that is both beneficial yet harmful. In the 1830’s, the conditions were atrocious but manageable for most people, meaning that they were not deadly and were worth it, which allows for improvement. Also, for the 1830’s, things were packed very tightly on the factory floor and child labor laws were non-existent. In contrast, today, there are many cases of lack of benefits, poor quality of life, improper safety training, and gender and race discrimination. However, there are many intriguing and grand ideas that are deep within
The industrial revolution began in the 18th century in Britain, spread to three other parts of the world, and included the people as well as government. It started for a number of reasons, but one reason was because Britain had access to certain resources such as coal and iron. The industrial revolution affected many individuals that participated in it as well as people today.he industrial revolution had many positive effects as well as negative effects regarding the harsh conditions, affects it has on today, and how many jobs and people were involved.
Between the years 1760-1820, the Industrial Revolution took place in Great Britain. This was a transforming time in the course of our world. It allowed machines to complete the jobs that humans had done for centuries. Over the years, inventors rose and created machines and inventions that helped transform the Industrial Revolution. One famous inventor went by the name of James Watt.
The Industrial Revolution began in the early 1700's in Europe. Europe was able to kick-start the revolution due to a
Society learned how to take water create steam by heating it up which powered many tools that was used during that time. Another resource that was used during this time was called which allowed us to power devices such as machine tools to create products. The Industrial Revolution started out in Great Britain and traveled its way through Western Europe. After a short amount of time the United States that had just formed learned how to use products from the root Industrial Revolution. There were two periods in this revolution that created technology and boosted economic process of the nations that were used by.
The first industrial revolution took place in England in the mid to late 1700’s. There were three technological developments that laid the foundation for the world’s first industrial revolution. First, the development of devices that spun cotton into yarn and the weaving of yarn into cloth. This helped cotton textiles to be produced in large factories. Second, there was the development of coal-powered furnaces that made iron in great quantities. Iron and then steel was an important factor in making machine parts and allowing larger buildings to be built for manufacturing, both of which help the expansion of industry. Third, the development and improvement of coal-powered steam engines, which provided a source of power for manufacturing that was better and more convenient than wood or water power. These three technological developments revolutionized the way manufactured goods were made and changed the way people were employed in England. Industrial towns and factories were created all over the country. The way people worked changed from a single person or family doing the job to a factory with machines that manufactured goods in large quantities. The industrial revolution was created and began to explode in England. (Dudley, 1998)
