How Did The Industrial Revolution Damage The Environment

In the past several centuries, the arising of three Industrial Revolution has significantly changed human society. While they were the driving force behind the development of technologies, they damaged the environment. In the article “Is ‘Progress’ Good for Humanity?”, Jeremy Caradonna claims that the Industrial Revolution is fundamentally sound, but it did bring something worse, like greenhouse, toxic sites, erratic weather. Moreover, the great explosion in population growth has made huge requirements of food, energy, etc., which pressures global ecosystems. Meanwhile, Chris Carroll writes an experience in Ghana in his article “High-Tech Trash”, to show the people who live in poverty there recycle and resell tech trash for a living. The worse environment and bad health problems there have reflected the effects of tech trash. From my perspective, it is hard to judge the effects the Industrial Revolution brought, since it assisted the human development and damaged the environment simultaneously. But ensuring the environmental sustainability is an essential way to benefit both human and ecosystems. The environmental itself and the resources are important factors to human development, and the crisis of making trash can finally influence human’s health in a negative way.

Compared to other planets in the solar system, the Earth undoubtedly has an appropriate environment for people to live in.

Since the diverse resources are an important impetus for human development, it is necessary to utilize resources efficiently and appropriately. On the other hand, to find a balance between protecting environment and ensuring human’s health is imperative.
