On July, 28 1914 the Austrian- Hungarians declared war on Serbia for killing the Archduke and his wife when visiting Sarajevo. Alliances began to form by the same ethnicity or political need. Serbia had an alliance with Russia because of the similarity in the language and culture. Austria- Hungary asked Germany to support them as they attack Serbia, and Germany replied with a blank check. As alliances began to form, the Ottoman Empire joined Germany and Austria-Hungary to form the Central Powers, and England, France, and Russia formed the Allies. The Allies and the Central Powers fought for four years, and WWI left thirty million men dead. WWI provided the Ottoman Empire an opportunity to commit the crimes against a minority group living within its borders. Although the Ottoman Empire claimed it was a civil war, it was proven that through high organization, large scale, and government involvement that the genocide targeted and tried eliminating all Armenian people. The Ottoman Empire had planned a highly organized genocide against the Armenian people and used multiple methods to kill them. …show more content…
Even to today, the Turks will not admit their actions and will never be punished for what they have done. Adolf Hitler will become Chancellor of Germany in January 1933 and will form the Nazi Party. Six million Jews were killed in the final stage that consisted of gassings, shootings, random acts of terror and starvation (“The Final Stage”).In the Nuremberg Trials, twelve prominent Nazis were sentenced to death, and the individuals directly involved in the killing received the most severe punishment (“ The Nuremberg Trials”). Adolf Hitler had committed suicide in the final days of the war, as had several of close aids (“The Nuremberg Trials”). The Armenian Genocide will be an inspiration for Adolf Hitler when he tries wiping out all the Jews during
At a time of loss, the German people needed a reason to rebuild their spirits. The Jews became a national target even though Hitler’s theory could not be proven. Even as a Jew, he accused the Jews people for Germany’s defeat in order to rally the people against a group of people Hitler despised. The story-telling of the Jews’ wickedness distracts the Germans from realizing the terror Holocaust. Millions of Jewish people died because Hitler said they caused the downfall of Germany. Innocent lives were taken. The death of millions mark the rise of Hitler. He sets the stage for the largest massacre in
He felt that several forces of opposing countries took part in fighting each battle and ultimately believed that global opposition caused the Great War. Similarly, in the Balkan Region, several ethnic minorities desired independence from Austria-Hungary. As shown in Document 3, the Austro-Hungarian government demanded that action be taken regarding propaganda against Austria-Hungary. This ultimatum was a result of the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand, who was killed by a Serbian nationalist. Russia, a large Slavic nation, has close ties with Serbia.
When people hear genocide they normally think of the Holocaust which was the persecution of Jews by the Nazi’s. This took place under Adolf Hitler’s rule but there have been other genocides throughout history. The Armenian Genocide is one of the many that have taken place. It took place in the Ottoman Empire between the years of 1914 to 1918 (“Armenian” Armenian). It started when the “Young Turks” took control of the government (Beecroft). The Holocaust and Armenian genocide are similar in the reasons that started them, but they are different in who was involved and how the two genocides were executed.
During the Holocaust, around six million Jews were murdered due to Hitler’s plan to rid Germany of “heterogeneous people” in Germany, as stated in the novel, Life and Death in the Third Reich by Peter Fritzsche. Shortly following a period of suffering, Hitler began leading Germany in 1930 to start the period of his rule, the Third Reich. Over time, his power and support from the country increased until he had full control over his people. Starting from saying “Heil Hitler!” the people of the German empire were cleverly forced into following Hitler through terror and threat.
World War one started with the assassination of the Austrian emperor's nephew, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, on June 18, 1914, while they were visiting Sarajevo, part of the Austria-Hungary Empire, the province of Bosnia Herzegovina. The assassination by a Serbian Nationalist caused the Austria Hungary Empire to plan to start war against Serbia. Instead of reacting quickly to the incident, Austria Hungary made sure to have a treaty with Germany. This allowed Serbia to create a treaty with Russia. Russia also had a treaty with France and Britain. Austria Hungary declared war on the July 28, 1914, over a month after the assassination. By then most of Europe was involved. The two main sides of this war were the allied forces, and the central powers. The allied forces consisted of France, UK, and Russia, and the central powers were Germany and Austria Hungary. WW1 was from 1914 to 1919, resulting in 10 million military deaths, and 20 million injured. Originally, the allied forces wanted the United States to join the war, but the US was neutral. However, two events changed this opinion. In 1915, a German U-boat sunk the British Ocean liner RMS Lusitania. This was a neutral passenger ship, and the Americans were furious when it was sunk, as 159 of the passengers were American. Also, in 1917, Mexico was sent a coded message from Germany, which was intercepted by the British and shown to the US. The message promised sections of US land in return for entering the war on the German side. On April 6, 1917, the US entered the war. Russia, during this time, was planning on getting out of the war. In 1917, a revolution happened, removing the czar from power. The new communist government wanted to focus on intern...
On 28 July 1914, the war began with the Allies and Central Powers in Europe. The Allied Powers primarily consisted of Britain, France, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, and later the US and Italy. The Central Powers consisted of Austria-Hungary, Germany, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria.
I’s contribution towards the severity of the Armenian Genocide’s casualties, foreign aid, and how the genocide was reported to the world. The main sources used for this investigation are the Treatment of the Armenians by James Bryce, which describes the severity of the Armenian condition in Turkey during the World War I era, as well as the Burning Tigris by Peter Balakian, which emphasizes World War I’s conditions and how they affected the Armenians in Turkey during that time. B. Summary of Evidence There was stirring animosity between the Armenians and the Turks prior to World War I, in 1894, thousands of Armenians were massacred by the Turkish due to their religious affiliation with Christianity, which juxtaposed the Islamic Turks with whom they lived with (Greene 125). The Armenians living in Turkey have been ostracized ever since, and increased tension between the Turks and Armenians was sparked by the beginning of World War I.
Tensions over territory were high between the great powers; France, Italy, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Britain and Russia, making alliances with each other saying who they would side with if war would break out. With tensions high with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was killed by Serbian nationalists. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia and called great powers with who alliances and treaties. On July 28, 1914, Austria invaded Serbia setting in motion all t...
Hitler was the dictator by which this event was organized. Throughout the years of his rule, he led the mass murder of approximately 6 million people and as his life came to a close, he would show no signs of remorse. However, based on writings left behind, he instead still blamed the Jews for starting the issue. On April 30, 1945, the day after marrying his mistress, while in his bunker, he and his new wife would together take cyanide in which they would die together. During this, Hitler would also shoot himself with a pistol out of determination to die and remorse for a struggling Germany6.

... On 28 June, 1914, the assassination was successful and this was the action that triggered war. Austria-Hungary wanted revenge because their next ruler was killed so they declared war against Serbia. This is what caused the war. The Alliances ties in with these events as Austria-Hungary formed an alliance with Germany who also went to war with Serbia.
On April 24, 1915 the Armenian genocide began. 1 million and 5 hundred-thousand people got killed because of Turkish government. Many of them got raped, enslaved and murdered. For instance, they drowned people in rivers, burned them alive, executed and etc. They also kidnapped children and sent to Turkish families. In many places, Turkish people rapped and used Armenian women as a slave. “The Armenians marched by Turkish soldiers” picture in “artvoice.com” website shows the Armenians nearby prison in Mezierh by armed Turkish soldiers. Also only 25% Armenians deported to the deserts of Syria and Iraq. After the war between Armenian and Turks, only 380’000 Armenian remained in the Ottoman Empire. During the late 1920s and early 1930s, Germany was experiencing great economic and social hardship. Germany was defeated in World War I and the Treaty of Versailles forced giant reparations upon the country. As a result of these reparations, Germany suffered terrible inflation and mass unemployment. Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Nazi party who blamed Jews for Germany’s problems. His incredible public speaking skills, widespread propaganda, and the need to blame someone for Germany’s loss led to Hitler’s great popularity among the German people and the spread of anti-Semitism like wildfire. Hitler initially had a plan to force the Jews out of Germany, but this attempt quickly turned into the biggest genocide in history. The first concentration camps in Germany were established soon after Hitler's appointment as chancellor in January 1933.“...the personification of the devil as the symbol of all evil assumes the living shape of the Jew.” –Adolf Hitler
Germany, who was allied with Austria-Hungary, also declared war on Serbia. Russia, who was allied with Serbia, had to declare war on Germany and Austria-Hungary. When Germany invaded France and Belgium, Great Britain declared war on Germany. World War 1 had begun. As the German Chancellor, Bethmann-Hollweg said, “Once the dice are cast nothing can stop them.”
Austria-Hungary had German support, and Serbia could rely on Russia, and neither state was interested in negotiation. It can be argued that Austria-Hungary underestimated Serbia, and the consequences of what going to war with Serbia would bring. For Serbia, war had become commonplace. There was too little fear of war, and too little consideration of the consequences that war would bring. The Balkan states were seeking to unify, they had had enough intervention in their affairs by foreign powers, and they had recently toppled one of the great empires. Serbia had no interest in being under foreign control and desired the inclusion of Bosnia-Herzegovina into a unified Balkan state. Upset by the annexation of Bosnia-Herzegovina by Austria-Hungary in 1908 a number of nationalist movements against Austria-Hungary had sprung up, encouraged by both Russia and Serbia. When Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo, the situation had already reached its tipping point, and the two bullets fired by Gavrilo Princip on June 28, 1914 was all the world needed to push it over the
