According to the article “The Romans in Scotland” by the BBC, they said: In AD 79, The Roman Governor of Britannia, who called Agricola, sent a naval fleet to survey the coast of Scotland. As the fleet headway, Agricola conquered Southern Scotland by AD 83. As a result, the Caledonian tribes were at the gates of an imminent invasion. William Wallace is considered a legend in Scotland. For years, England and Scotland were at war, and behind many of the battles for Scotland’s independence was William Wallace. While the information about him, like any good hero, might be over exaggerated by some historians, what’s true is that he gave the country hope that Scotland could be free from English Tyranny. For years after he died, others took his place in saving Scotland from English rule.
At the time when humans were learning to use spears constructed out of sticks and stones and the
The community of Scotland was named after a man named William Bernard Scott. Scotlandville overall is formally known as a black community, from the school to closeness of the neighborhood being a family all in one. This includes schools, the neighborhood and residents as well. When thinking of Scotlandville most tend to think of the basketball team or the school in general. Scotlandville, Louisiana is too historical to be overlooked, and it has an admiring past all to itself.
When the Romans Invaded Briton each Celtic tribe was treated differently. The Celtic Iceni tribe kept out of the violent conflict, and because of this they were awarded ‘client kingdom’ status by the Romans. Being a client kingdom meant that the Iceni tribe maintained a considerable amount of independence. They were allowed to keep their rulers, and they were allowed to mint coin. They were bound by treaty to Rome, who in return would back them up, often against rival tribes. Yet the Romans took the view that they had the authority, to at any time intervene in the internal affairs of their client kingdoms. On the other hand the main city of the Trinovantes tribe, which was located just south of the Iceni tribe, was declared by Emperor Claudius as the capital of his British province. The Trinovantes people lost their freedom as well as having most of the...
In No Great Mischief, Alistair MacLeod proves to the reader that it is impossible to talk about the Scottish-Canadian heritage without mentioning tradition, family and loyalty. MacLeod wrote this book about loyalty to family tradition. It is common to talk about these three things when one describes his family or his past in general, but in this book, MacLeod has included every single intricate detail about each one of the three aspects.
Paleolithic is often referred to as the Old Stone Age. "Paleo" means old and "lithic" means stone. The Neolithic time period is often referred to as the New Stone Age. "Neo" means new and "lithic" also means stone. The Paleolithic culture or way of life began about 2.5 to 2 million years ago. The Paleolithic Period ended at different times in different parts of the world, generally around 12,000 years ago in Europe and the Middle East. When the Paleolithic period ended, the Neolithic period took over and began 12,000 years ago somewhere in the Middle East, and later in other parts of the world. It is characterized by the beginning of farming, the domestication of animals, the development of crafts such as pottery and weaving, and the making of polished stone tools. Life changed dramatically between Paleolithic and Neolithic times.
Legends relate that settlers from Greek Asia Minor sailed the seas, and arrived in Ireland at Cruachan Feli, the ‘mountain of Ireland.’ After some time, the tribe of the Scotii crossed the Irish Sea to invade Caledonia, north of Roman Britain, and settled in Iona. Supposedly, the tribe had been named after Scota, the Egyptian wife of a Spartan commander Nél. This just one of several legends behind the Gaelic invasion of the land of the Picts. Sometimes Scota is described as being the sister of the Egy...

...Union is three hundred years old for a reason: it simply works. Scotland benefits from the economies of scale, the checks and balances of one of the world's richest countries. The UK benefits from the flood of skilled professionals and entrepreneurs that Scotland has always provided. It is a sad fact that the small and isolated are suffering in the present financial climate - just observe Ireland and Iceland. Although devolution is a contemporary issue and its resurgence is inevitable in terms of the new Scottish government, concepts of total home rule are merely a novelty dreamt up amongst the hype and publicity of the anniversary of the Act of Union. It is something of a fashion that will pass with time, thus leaving us in yet another prosperous and peaceful period in Scotland's social and political history and more importantly the history of the United Kingdom.
Skara Brae is a Neolithic (stone age) village located on the Orkney Islands, found north of Scotland (see image 1). Using radiocarbon dating, it has been discovered that Skara Brae was one of the earliest farming villages in Britain having been inhabited over 5000 years ago. It was due to isolation and minimal changes to the landscape that a village that was created between 3100 and 2500 BC is one of the best preserved villages in northern Europe today.
