Rock and Roll is one of the most popular genres of music around. Its popularity is mostly due to the artists who sang this music. Some of the most influential singers in American History are Rock and Roll artists. Men, such as Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and Buddy Holly helped to form Rock and Roll and make it the huge success that it is. Each of these three men left marks on the American Pop Culture and will be remembered forever for their contribution and success.
One of the biggest names in Rock and Roll was Elvis Presley. He was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo Mississippi. (Presley) He was born to Gladys and Vernon Presley. (Elvis) He came from a home with little money. He got his first guitar on his 11th birthday and a few years later won his first talent show at his high school in Memphis. He had a dream of becoming a musician, but while trying to reach this dream, he had to work at many different jobs. In 1950, he cut his first record at Sun Studio. The owner of the studio, Sam Phillips was so impressed, he decided to take him under his wing and help him with his career. His first hit single was in 1954, and the name of the song was “That’s All Right.” (Presley)

In 1955, he signed with RCA Records. That same year he had his first number one single called “Heartbreak Hotel.” He also had a number one album that year. (Presley) He became so popular not only in the music industry but in the movies. He was the first rock star to appear in films who was successful. (Elvis) Paramount Pictures signed him to a contract in 1956. His hip moves caused controversy, but at the same time made him even more popular. He was a sex symbol. His first film was called Love Me Tender. It was a hit at the box office.
