Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor, and today is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. Whilst he was still alive producing his theatrics, he had a patron that enjoyed and influenced his work greatly. Queen Elizabeth the First had a dynamic impact/influence on William Shakespeare's literary productions.
Queen Elizabeth's reign is sometimes known as the Elizabethan Age, and was the era of William Shakespeare's plays, Sir Frances Drake's trips to America, and the defeat of the Spanish Armada. Yet, this is absurd because the Queen never visited public theatres and it was custom to sit removed from the stage at both private and also at Court performances. Shakespeare in particular, would not have forgotten her queenly state and dignity however, there is no record of this ever happening.
Whenever the Queen had an idea for one of Shakespeare's plays, Shakespeare would accept it, and substitute the Queens idea's to his final theatrical play. An example of this was when Elizabeth requested a sequel to Shakespeare's "Henry" plays for the character of Falstaff. She also displayed herself as strong, wise, and feminine which influenced how Shakespeare portrayed women in his plays. His female characters showed attributes of being independent, attractive, intelligent, strong, and humane. Queen Elizabeth could understand several languages including English, Latin, Greek, Italian, French, Spanish, Welsh and apparently even Cornish, a language which is now only spoken by about 2,000 people in Cornwall.
