A U.S. assault eventually destroyed their headquarters. They lost training camps and bases in Afghanistan. Their fighters and leaders were dislocated and forced out, and they became more concerned about their own safety more than they were about their next attacks. Many believe that Osama bin Laden gave up the daily operations of al Qaeda so that he could hide away, thus causing a loss of influence upon his followers. He made his last public appearance in Jalalabad on November 10, 2001 before disappearing into the mountains. One month later a video surfaced showing bin Laden looking haggard and unable to move his left arm. Rumors began swirling that he was in poor health or that he had died. While he was never seen publicly after that, his voice was still heard for nearly 10 years through the use of audio and video tapes. He continued to issue threats and warnings from his hideout until his last one in May
This is a proven fact, so when the television shows the camps of Bin Laden, let’s not be fooled the reason is that those people a raised like that from a very young age to hate America or United states. That’s when education plays a central role. By not being well educated, their information is controlled by a group of people which decide what to teach them, which results of raising a population to certain beliefs that a small group think to be just. By ending the stories in such ways is probably what Proulx wants; to change the state of mind of the reader to a similar uncomfortable helpless feeling that immigrants felt everyday back in the 1900’s.
Osama bin Laden was an adversary of the West for years and it was known to the whole world. Unfortunately, he took it a little further by having two planes fly into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon and another plane possibly for the White House. As we all know, this is the unforgettable day of September 11, 2001. Thousands of Americans were innocently murdered that day and in our own country by a terrorist organization. Fear crept out from every corner on the street, and hatred and discrimination ambled out of every store or gas station that was run predominantly by citizens of Middle Eastern descent. In response, President Bush told the American people "We will never forget," meaning the people responsible for the attacks would be found, and payback would be ensured. However, instead of hunting down Osama bin Laden (the leader of the terrorist group al-Qaeda) or Mohammed Atta (mastermind behind the 9/11 events), the U.S. decided to hunt Saddam Hussein.

He was the 17th son of Mohammed bin Laden out of about 50 children (Coll 84). Mohammed bin Laden was a wealthy man who owned a construction company known as bin Laden Construction Company. Not only did he obtain his wealth from this, but also from his massive support of the Saudi Government. In 1967, when Osama was 13, his father passed away in a plane crash. When this occurred, Osama wanted to take charge and start making a life of his own (Coll 85). Growing up, Osama enjoyed being on his own because he accepted the fact that he was not very close with his family. In times of need, bin Laden turned to Allah for support when his family gave him none (Anonymous 82). Between the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Osama attended Jedda’s King Abdulaziz University which foc...

Al Qaeda is an international terrorist organization that was founded by Osama bin Laden in the late 1980s in Peshawar, Pakistan. The name is Arabic for “The Base of Operation” or “method” (Burke 2004). However, many experts agree that al-Qaeda is more dangerous as an ideology than as an organization. As an organization, it has been weakened by fragmentation, arrests, and deaths of the top leaders. This has caused the structure of the organization to be destroyed, resulting in the lack of a central hub for the militant group. One thing that remains is the ideology, which is fueled mainly by a hatred of Western, Zionist, and Semitic cultures and beliefs (Burke 2004). As a result, many people may not be directly part of the al Qaeda network or even directly linked to bin Laden. Due to their common views and beliefs of Western culture, militant groups loosely associated to al Qaeda have been formed, carrying on the original objectives that bin Laden had in mind when he created this organization.
He made his leadership by peaceful means and demonstrated to the entire world that he lived by his own set of values, consequently gaining the respect of his people.
Many think just because of Hussein’s ruthless ways that he was a bad leader. But not many know that he helped Iraq to thrive and keep stabilization throughout the nation in some tough times. Saddam Hussein was the fifth President of Iraq, who served from 1979 until 2003. Hussein was fatherless as a child and was said to be beaten by his step dad (Andrews). Saddam Hussein is a modern-day Julius Caesar who gained popular support, though he used ruthless tactics to control Iraq, and helped the economy.
