The Holocaust was a mass murder of approximately 6 million European Jews, gypsies, and homosexuals by the German Nazi Regime this occurred during the second world war. Adolf Hitler was an anti-semitic Nazi who believed that Jews were an inferior race and a threat to Germany. His solution (Now known as the Holocaust) was commit a genocide against the jews

He was known for his outspoken personality that brought hope and redemption towards others. Niemoller opposed what Hitler was doing especially when Hitler said that he wouldn't involve the church with his plan. He also created the Pastors Emergency League to help protect the church. Niemoller was very straightforward with his beliefs and during sermons he spoke out about the wrongdoings of Hitler and the Nazis. When addressing the subject of his beliefs he stated in his postwar lectures,. Niemoller displayed the importance of taking a stand and he creates an impact in society by doing so. Not only in lectures, but he also stood up against Hitler face to face during a meeting in January 1937. Because he was so outspoken, it increased his chances of getting arrested by the Nazis. He was arrested on July 1, 1937 due to his disobedience with his sermons and the popularity he gained from others who looked up to him. He had a trial, was released, but soon after was rearrested and sent to Sachsenhausen and Dachau concentration camps. He was under Nazi control for seven years. He was known for speaking up for issues of nuclear weapons as well as his compelling statement involving the negligence of speaking up to the Nazis. The Holocaust could be best described as the widespread genocide of over eleven million Jews and other undesirables throughout Europe from 1933 to 1945. It all began when Adolf Hitler, Germany's newest leader, enforced the Nuremburg Race Laws. These laws discriminated against Jews and other undesirables and segregated them from the rest of the population. As things grew worse, Jews were forced to wear the Star of David on their clothing. The laws even stripped them of their citizenship.
The Holocaust was the time period when Adolf Hitler was in control of the territory of Germany and wanted the extinction of the Jews. The Holocaust was a very vigorous on the Jews because they were treated the worst and had the worst living conditions. Since Adolf Hitler was in power he commanded that all Jews properties and valuables be taken. For example, in the book “Maus” it states, “He had to sell his business to a German and run out from the country without even the money.”(

Outside the field of theology, he took a keen interest in trade union and political affairs. He was an active member of the Socialist Party in the 1930s, waged a vigorous fight against isolationism and pacifism before and during World War II, and in 1944 helped to found the Liberal Party in New York State. He received the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1964 and was made a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He died on June 1, 1971.
Bonhoeffer had been taught not to "resist the powers that be," but he came to a conclusion to believe that to do so was sometimes the right choice. In 1939 his brother-in-law introduced him to a group planning the overthrow of Hitler, and he made significant contributions to their work. (Bonhoeffer at this time was an employee of the Military Intelligence Department.) He was later arrested in April of 1943 and imprisoned in Berlin. After the failure of the attempt on Hitler's life in April of 1944, he was first sent to Buchenwald and then to Schoenberg Prison.
Theologian, ethicist, and political analyst, Reinhold Niebuhr was a towering figure of twentiethcentury religious thought. He is well known and is appreciated for many reasons among American theologians. Niebuhr had a very strong opinion and much to say when it came down to man and violence in regards to peace and war. Although he thought of himself as a preacher and social activist, the influence of his theological thought on the field of social ethics and on society made him a significant figure.
Niemoller was trying to make people understand that it didn’t matter if you weren’t a jew or a communist or a trade unionist, that Hitler was still killing people and it didn’t matter who they were. That when the time came and Hitler was coming after you that nobody would speak up for you because there wasn’t anybody left because somebody didn’t speak up for them. He tried to show them to stand up for others because maybe one day they will be standing up for you.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran pastor who was born February 4 1906 in Breslau, Germany. As a child Dietrich’s family was not religious. Even though his family was not religious he decided at the age of 14 to become a priest. In 1927 Dietrich graduated from the University of Berlin with a doctorate. After this he traveled to Spain and America for a short period of time. In 1931 he would travel back to Germany as an ordained priest. It would be two years after this that Adolf Hitler would be elected. Dietrich did not agree with many of Hitler’s policies and the persecution of the jews. It would be from here that Dietrich would become famous for his actions.

When Hitler became powerful and took control over Germany, everything changed. He was against Jews and wanted to wipe them out at once and his prejudice against Jews was very strong. The most crucial thing that they did was the medical experiments; doctors don’t care if they treated them right or not and most of the surgeries were performed without any anesthetic.
