It’s hell living like a pair of angels” said Karen Carpenter (“Patay”). Karen was a battler of anorexia nervosa. She didn’t bring attention to it like others. She was famous around the world because of her big hits in the nineteen seventies. Karen thought that should be perfect. Although, there are many risks. Anorexia is a serious medical condition where people have a loss of appetite or food. Anorexia is characterized by the pathological fear of becoming overweight. Anorexia can cause people to have insomnia and be fatigue. People also get a bluish discoloration to the fingers, swollen arms or legs, and also get a layer of soft, downy hair all over the body. When people have anorexia or choose to have anorexia, they tend to deny hunger and refuse to eat. They also lie about how much food they actually consume. Karen was a lead singer in her and her brother's band. Her brother and her released albums, went on tours, and made public appearances. They went to the Grammy awards and were featured in people magazines. Some of her biggest hits were: “Close to You”, “We’ve Only Just Begun”, and “Ticket to Ride”. Moreover, when Karen got on stage, she felt like she was just a regular person. Karen says, “"People never think of entertainers as being human. When you walk out on stage the audience thinks, "Nothing can go wrong with them." We get sick and we have headaches just like they do. When we are cut, we bleed.”
