Women have always been viewed as the backbone of men. Men have always been known to be brave and courageous, but Harriet Tubman changed the image of women. Tubman escaped slavery and help others to their freedom using the Underground Railroad.
In the early life of Harriet, she was physical abused. Being physical and emotional abuse was a part of slavery. The abuse caused permanent physical injuries to Tubman. Harriet Tubman became the leading abolitionist before the civil war. She escaped in 1849, but later she returned many times to help free her family and other slaves on the plantation.
