In the wizard world, news has floated around that the dreaded Lord Voldemort had found and murdered Lily and James Potter, however, their son, Harry Potter, a mere child, had defeated the deadly and widely feared Lord Voldemort. Due to loss the of his parents, Albus Dumbledore fetches Harry (with the use of Hagrid) from the scene of the murder, and ultimately decides that with Harry’s parents dead, best way to protect Harry from the fame he has garnered in the wizard world would be to leave him to live with his uncle and aunt; Mr. and Mrs. Dursley. Moreover, the significance of the point is realized in the fact that it is astonishing to realize that Dumbledore would leave Harry with people who clearly have a strong hatred towards Wizards due
Harry had an issue at home with his parents who did not do what a real parent would do, not experiencing the outside world, having parents who come home late and does not take care of their son. Although my personal life is not exactly the same as his, I can connect to it. My parents are not party members but they
Within the novel Fahrenheit 451 Guy Montag, the protagonist, experiences a mental paradigm shift when Clarisse reveals to him the hidden working of their world. As a result, Guy Montag is introduced to the secrets behind the burning of books. This dystopian society, therefore, is based on whoever is burning the books and not a legitimate democratic government. Lack of knowledge is prominent in the novel because society takes away the only source for it. Paper burns at a temperature of 451, hence the title of the novel and significance of burning a source of knowledge. By removing books, Guy Montag's community is left ignorant and therefore unable to rebel or use their voice for social purposes. People also burned Harry Potter books to insinuate their hate for what the novel portrayed.
Ever since J.K. Rowling first introduced Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in 1997, children and adults have read and loved the series. It has gained such popularity that all of the books have been made into major motion pictures, and a Harry Potter attraction has been opened in Universal Studios, Florida. Though the readers love Rowling’s intricate and exciting story lines, many controversies have arisen from these stories, not only in the United States, but also in various countries around the world. Perhaps the biggest controversy is the religious implications perceived by some critics. Although these critics believe that the series promotes paganism and encourages evil actions, these theories should not be taken so seriously.
Harry has spent all summer waiting to hear news about Lord Voldemort, a evil wizard that Harry saw return the year before, but nobody believes him. One evening after listening to news ,he decides to go for a walk. He then sees his cousin, who he lives with and hates. They then get in a fight and Harry pulls out his wand and at that exact moment two dementors attack them. Dudley thinks Harry is attacking him so he punches Harry. Harry then heroically saves them both by producing a patronus and driving away the dementors.
In Harry Potter, one of the premier topics is love, in the feeling of tribute, familial ties, and companionship. The spectator sees this in the adoring generosity of Harry Potter's guardians for a newborn child Harry; Harry, Ron, and Hermione (The Trio) bear much adore for one another and showcase this in their activities towards each one in turn; Harry shows extraordinary cherish for his Godfather, Sirius Black, and Sirius gives back this adore from various perspectives, incorporating altruism;...
Rowling had one of the brothers not fall for the trap or the trick that Death played on them. The youngest of the three brothers, “the humblest and also the wisest” (Granger, Harry Potter and the Ivory Tower). When he asked for a gift, he thought about having the ability to hide from Death. With the invisibility cloak concealed him from death. He just wanted to live a simple life, which he did with the help of the cloak. When he was older, he decided to take off the cloak and greets Death “as an old friend, and went with him gladly, and equals, they departed this life” (Granger). There are also speculations that each character in the Harry Potter series is one of the three brothers. Here you can see that the three brothers correspond to Voldemort, Severus Snape, and Harry. Voldemort being the oldest one, the one seeking all the power. He wanted to become the most powerful wizard. For the second brother, it is very clear that Snape corresponds to him. When he died, Lily Potter was the person he thought about. She was the very person he lived for and loved. The third brother is quite like Harry. Harry never wanted to have power. He just wanted to live a simple life in peace. When Harry inherited the cloak, this allowed him to defeat Death by reunited the three Hallows (Bhatti, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: The Tale of the Three Brothers). The difference is that in the Pardoner’s Tale all three of the rioters die
Throughout the story, Harry constantly amazes crowds with his ability to escape from enclosed areas. In this case, Harry demonstrates two kinds of imprisonment: physical imprisonment and emotional imprisonment. He demonstrates physical imprisonment as he attempts to set himself free from the enclosed areas. However, his emotional imprisonment occurs when Harry is alone and pondering his unique career, which gives him much stress, as we often get in-depth looks into Harry’s thoughts from the narrator. For example, after one of Harry’s infamous stunts, he reads the newspaper. As we go inside the mind of Harry, “He had never known such feelings of dissatisfaction. He wondered why he had devoted his life to mindless entertainment” (Doctorow 101). This interpersonal thought shows that Harry has at least a fragment of doubt in regards to the life he’s living, as it seems as if he’s not satisfied with the lifestyle he chose. This time, along with many others, he more or less questions his purpose in life. On top of that, Harry is going through a tough time with his mother recently passing away. Ultimately, these reasons make it hard for Harry to will himself to do these amazing escapes, making Harry emotionally imprisoned, as often times he does not develop a sense of gratification from his achievements. As explained in this book, this is mainly due to the depression he experiences after his mother’s death. In specific, near the middle of the story, Harry is in the middle of performing a crazy stunt - one in which he had to break free from a locked, steel box filled with water. In context, this describes the atmosphere of his crowds and describes how his escapes affected him emotionally after his mother’s death. “People shouted from the audience. Women closed their eyes and put their hands over their ears. They begged his assistants to stop him. He was helped
Now to get to the Prisoner of Azkaban. Harry Potter is back for the summer at the Dursley’s home. The Dursley’s are his mother’s sister, and that family detests Harry in every way possible. They keep him locked up in a cupboard in the basement, taking his owl (used for delivering mail etc.). his wand, and his trunk of spell books and everything else he could use to do any bit of magic.
Dudley Dursley is the only son of uncle Vernon Dursley and aunt Petunia Dursley. He is cousin of Harry Potter. His parents ignoring his bullying, greed and greatly spoil him. According to Alfred Adler, order of birth is a major social influence in childhood (Schultz & Schultz, 2013). Different childhood conditions will be created with different parental attitudes. The only son never loses their position of primacy and power they hold in the family. They always remain the focus and center of attention in the family. Because of Dudley greatly spoiled by his parents, he always bullies Harry and didn’t get any punishment from his parents. He has a greedy personality which can be seen when he yelling to his father by saying that only 36 presents for his birthday in this year, while last year he got 37 presents. Even his father says that there are some big presents but he didn’t care. He only cares about how many presents he received. This make Harry envy to Dudley because he never receive any present.
In The Book Thief, readers first come across Liesel Meminger on the train to Molching. Already in this scene Liesel is in an upsetting circumstance. She is being taken away from her family and being sent to a foster home in a new town. On top of this already displeasing circumstance, Liesel is distraught with the loss of her younger brother, Werner. After this incident, the novel depicts Liesel after the unfortunate burial of her brother. “Perhaps ten meters to my left, the pale, empty-stomached girl was standing, frost stricken. Her mouth jittered. Her cold arms were folded. Tears were frozen to the book thief’s face” (Zusak, 8). Already at the young age of ten, Liesel Meminger has experienced the death of a loved one which consequently affects her decision making process. Similarly, Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows also suffers the loss of another loved one at the beginning of the novel. Harry has already lost so many significant individuals in his life; however, the loss of Albus Dumbledore is incredibly painful to Harry as Albus Dumbledore was one of the last father figures in Harry’s life. At the beginning of the novel, the reader is introduced to Harry packing for the arrival of his friends to number 4 Privet Drive. “In a front pocket [of his rucksack] were the Marauder’s Map and the locket with the note signed ‘R.A.B.’ inside it. The locked was accorded this place of honour not because it was valuable- in all usual senses it was worthless- but of what it had cost to attain it” (Rowling, 21). This exert tells the reader that the excursion needed to retrieve this locket cost more than Harry could bear: the loss of his mentor Albus Dumbledore. Correspondingly to Liesel, Harry had witnessed the death of his loved one, which ultimately affects the choices he makes. As such, the reader
For example, Harry’s relationship with the Dursleys is full of hatred. They hate who he is, and Harry hates how they treat him. Harry also is afraid of them thinking that they are going to kick him out. The Dursleys had Harry stay in the little cupboard under the staircase because they were not kind enough to provide him with an actual room, even though they had a couple extra guest bedrooms. As the series goes on Harry becomes able to defend himself against the Dursleys, especially Uncle Vernon. For example, when Harry needed Uncle Vernon to sign something for Hogwarts, Uncle Vernon was threatening him that if he was not a respectful young boy to the guests coming that he wouldn’t sign the papers. Harry stood up for himself and said, “It’s a lot to remember. I’ll have to make it sound convincing won’t I? What if I accidentally let something slip?” Which means he needed a promise that the paper was going to get signed or he would not act respectful
Neville Longbottom was also born at the end of July to parents who were aurors and had directly defied Voldemort three times. The only difference between Harry and Neville at the time Voldemort chose Harry as the one to be his equal was their blood status. Like Tom Riddle, Harry Potter was a half-blood wizard. On the night Harry lost his parents, his fate was seemingly sealed for the rest of his life. Voldemort chose Harry to be the child in the prophecy, marking him-- physically and otherwise-- for the rest of his life. Harry must be the one to defeat Voldemort. Another life-shaping event that happened on that night was a piece of Voldemort’s soul taking shelter in Harry’s Body, giving another layer of depth to the “Chosen One” title. This night was the one that made Harry Potter into the person he grows up to be in the Deathly
Albus Dumbledore has a Character Number of 1, a Heart Number of 5, and a Social Number of 5. I feel like these numbers work well with who Dumbledore was as a person. Having a character number of 1 means he is a good leader. We see that throughout his history. No matter where he was, he quickly rose to a leadership position, both as a student and in his professional career. He was also very original and creative which he showed multiple times. One time in particular I can think of is how he hid the Sorcerer’s Stone in the Mirror of Erised. About that particular thought he said: “That is one of my more brilliant ideas. And between you and me, that is saying something.”
In the first chapter of the entire series, Dumbledore brings Harry Potter, who is only a year old, to his muggle aunt and uncle. Harry is arguably the most important infant in all of magical Britain. And instead of knocking on the door or making sure that someone takes this child inside, Dumbledore just leaves an infant on the doorstep. Voldemort had just disappeared not even twenty-four hours ago; no one knew what happened to him, and Dumbledore thought it was a good idea to leave a defenceless infant child on a random doorstep. First, bringing the Philosophers stone into the school, and also having the mirror of Erised, a mirror that can show anything you want, in a room that anyone could walk into and find. It was almost like Dumbledore wanted Harry to find the mirror and figure out how to use it. Also he knew
Harry Potter starts off slow, but gets very interesting near the end. In the beginning, you meet the Dursleys, Harry’s aunt, uncle, and their son Dudley. Then you learn that Harry’s parents were witches, and that they were destroyed by a evil wizard. A good witch, Albus Dumbeldoor, sends Harry to the Dursleys, because they’re his only remaining family. The Dursleys however, hated Harry and his family, so Harry was mistreated for years. He was forced to live in a cuborrod under the stairs. He had to watch as the fat, stuck up Dudley got whatever he wanted, and then usually broke whatever it was he got. Then one day Harry got a letter.
