Buddhism is a religion that teaches peace to all, so when King Asoka of the Mauryan Empire began practicing Buddhism, he ceased expanding the empire. Instead the government diverted its efforts towards creating a road system and building sculptures. Confucianism was based on the teachings of Confucius who preached the practice of “reverence [respect], generosity, truthfulness, diligence [industriousness], and kindness.” Because Wudi wanted his government employees to embody these qualities, Wudi set up schools that would teach these and had examinations for students for students based on these principles. The clash between Hinduism and Christianity in A Passage to India parallels the conflict between the Indians and the English. Hinduism is best represented in the novel by Professor Godbole, and Christianity is epitomized in Mrs. Moore. Mrs. Moore comes to India with the kindness and understanding heart of a devout Christian but leaves morose and peevish. Perhaps she is haunted into this state by Professor Godbole's strange song:
Over the years and across the world, religion has taken on many forms and importance within life. Religion is referred to by most as “a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number or people or sects”. Knowing this, it is easy to accept that as certain beliefs and religions arise across the world, there must be some similarities to accompany the inevitable differences that they have with each other. In particular, two religions that will be compared are Hinduism and Christianity. Each of these religions arised in completely different parts of the world, nevertheless it was inevitable that despite the geological and social differences that certain similarities would be evident between the differences. Between the two, there are three things that are easy to draw parallels and compare with each other. ...Because of Gandhi’s power, his flaw, and his catastrophe, one would say that Gandhi fits the model of a Greek tragic hero. Gandhi’s power was his heightened goodness, proven by his innumerable civil disobedience acts, where he continued to fight even while he was regularly jailed. His flaw was his tolerance and acceptance of everyone which led to his catastrophic assassination by Nathuram Godse. Gandhi’s teachings of nonviolence and peace still live on today, as they have inspired many other human rights leaders, such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. Gandhi’s teachings are responsible for the successes of civil rights movements in other countries. He not only helped free India from British rule, but also gave people new thoughts about violence and imperialism around the world. Even today, India continues to live and remember the tutelage of Gandhi.
Religion can be representative of a person’s fundamental, spiritual beliefs whereby he or she follows a certain set of principles that allows him or her to worship a particular entity. Some individuals hold the belief that there is only one existent God, while others believe there are multiple Gods; thus leading to the ideas of a polytheistic and monotheistic religion. In present day, there are many religions that fall within the aforementioned categories, but two particularly interesting ones are Hinduism and Islam. These two religions encountered each other and flourished in the motherland, known as India. However, through the extreme differences in religious beliefs, major wars influenced by politics, and the development of architectural

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable… We may ignore him at our own risk.” King cited Gandhi as one of his biggest inspirations, which should come as no surprise, as Gandhi helped end racism towards as many if not more people than King himself. Gandhi pioneered the use of what he called satyagraha, or political change through nonviolence, and helped bring millions of India’s oppressed to equality. Lord Mountbatten, the last British ruler of India, is quoted as saying, “Mahatma Gandhi will go down in history on a par with Buddha and Jesus Christ.” There is no denying the truth in this statement because of the way he had a profound impact on the lives of those around him, just like these other two famous figures of history. Gandhi may have been very small man, relatively speaking, but he grew to be a giant in the eyes of the world.
...e succeeded. Gandhi is known as the father of India but he can also be known as a transcendentalist because of his acts of civil disobedience, his careless thoughts of what others thought of him, and his persistence for racial and gender equality.
Although many people generally think that the religions in the world are ends in themselves, they are often interrelated. Thus, the purpose of this essay is to show their relationship by examining the histories and practices of the world’s most well known religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
Firstly, one of the most significant events in the human history was Gandhi fighting for the independence of India. After finishing his studies in England, Gandhi goes back to his homeland of India to free the oppressed Indians from slavery and poverty, they were facing under the British Empire. An example of this is when the British government decides to change laws that violated the civil rights of Indians. In retaliation to this, Gandhi and friends prepare a day of fasting and prayers, bringing an effect of a general strike and bought India to complete halt, causing large-scale embarrassment for the British Empire. Huge population, pollution, peace, snakes, saris, dance, curry, and religion are probably the most popular words that come up when we think about India. India is a well-known country. Although it is a relatively poor country, it has a rich and diverse culture. India is populated by approximately 953 million people. It has been a home for many religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism, Islam and Christianity. The first four mentioned above originated in India (Finegan 151). Hinduism is the oldest known religion to date and continues to maintain a loyal following. Beginning in India it flourishes and thrives in a more modern society. To be reincarnated in a higher class is something to strive for as you become a better version of yourself in a new life.
Some historians view history as a chain of events caused or involving certain extraordinary people. This viewpoint can be supported by examining the impact that leaders have had on their society throughout history. These exceptional individuals led their people in a new direction whether or good or bad. Two leaders who changed the society in which they lived were Napoleon Bonaparte and Mohandas Gandhi. Napoleon was able to lead his country out of civil war and economic crisis into prosperity and glory through warfare. However greedy and power hungry he was, still, should not overshadow the fact that he rejuvenated his country to its former prominence. Gandhi was able to win India’s independence from Great Brittan through non-violent and peaceful tactics. The actions of these two individuals changed their respective societies and world history.
Mahatma Gandhi has had a lasting effect on our world today. His philosophy and ideals have been adopted by many prominent figures in society. A powerful leader, he helped two countries in their struggle for basic rights. Gandhi is an amazing example of the things that can be achieved without violence. He proved that satyagraha is a powerful path to victory.
