Andrew Jackson was a popular hero during the War of 1812 who later became president of the United States. After losing the previous election to Quincy Adams, in 1828, Andrew Jackson won the electorate and defeated Adams 178-83 to become the 7th President of the United States. Sadly thereafter the election Jackson’s Wife Raquel died of a heart attack, nonetheless, President Jackson was inaugurated on March 4, 1829 in the presence of thousands. Even though he was probably one of the most distinguished presidents in history, he remains the most controversial. During Jackson’s administration, he acted more like a king and abused his power as many historians would agree. He supported the will of the white people but neglected the Native American Indians and Blacks. During Andrew Jackson's first term as President, Jackson fired dozens of longtime employees, as well as 13 district attorneys he claimed were incompetent, corrupted or because they opposed him politically. He appointed cabinet members from his own political party, including his friend John Eaton as secretary of war, whom Jackson defended when his own cabinet members socially ostracized Eaton and his wife over perceived social differences.
