Accidents happens all the time. Whether it’s car issues or just simply dropping something, it’s part of our everyday life. Some end up with consequences, while others could lead to something amazing. Something like penicillin. For Fleming, he left his workplace a mess and poof, the birth of penicillin. Penicillin wasn’t always a widely used medicine. It first began as a minor discovery, which soon lead to research on its benefits & uses and also mass production of the mold.
To start off, Alexander Fleming was never a clean or organized person. His laboratory was always scattered with molds and bacterial cultures. According to “The Discovery of Penicillin: The True Story”, it states that when, “..he returned from his vacation in 1928...he
This was a factor that was based on chance, as the penicillin (mould) had probably blown through a window. In my opinion Fleming didn't have much do to with the development of Penicillin, but he did recognise its importance and published his findings. Florey and Chain were scientists. They stumbled across Fleming's research papers and were intrigued by his findings. They were sure that, if Fleming was right, this discovery could save a lot of lives, prevent pain and make it much easier to fight infectious diseases and prevent other infections.
Penicillin, derived from the mold Penicillium, is the first antibiotic to successfully treat bacterial infections on humans. It was accidentally discovered by scientist, Alexander Fleming. While Fleming was growing Staphylococcus, a serious and often deadly infection, in a dish, he noticed the bacteria had stopped growing after a mold found its way
Today, Johnson & Johnson is a pharmaceutical giant worth $71 billion. The company is listed on NYSE as JNJ with 2.83 billion shares outstanding with the value of $92.7 per share.
Years later other scientists were also intrigued by the possibilities of penicillin and produced enough penicillin to prove that it was a useable antibiotic. The scientists from Great Britain were developing all of this during World War II, and unfortunately funding for their drug was unavailable due to the war. They decided to bring their concepts to the United States, and once enough was made, it was eventually used, to treat wounded soldiers during World War I.
Did you know that Benjamin Franklin designed gadgets such as the first flexible urinary catheter, and an odometer for his carriage? Benjamin Franklin was genius tinker, diplomat, inventor and philosopher. Though he was removed from school at the age ten, receiving only two years of formal education, he went on to speak various languages fluently, play chess, and even design gadgets such as odometers and Franklin stoves. He was an all-around self-taught genius that could never be satisfied. He made discoveries about electricity, and used his newfound knowledge to design and built gadgets such as the lightning-rod, which is something that, despite its age, is still an effective method of protection against lightning. He even designed the first

Benjamin Franklin was a writer, inventor, scientist, businessman, a diplomat. He was a mastermind. He helped shape America's society and character, to what is known as today. While reading and learning about Ben Franklin, you will witness the beginning of the United States. You will see how this man, changed America. Now, through my own words, meet Benjamin Franklin.
Benjamin Franklin’s inventions were as revolutionary as the century itself. Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts January 17, 1706. Franklin grew up to be a great man who would help greatly in the creation of our nation. Although Ben Franklin is greatly known, not much attention is put into his great inventions; the Franklin stove, bifocals, and the mapping of the Gulf Stream where some of his inventions. Franklin’s inventions all had different impacts on the lives of people.
18). Even though those diseases were not his goal to cure it still made penicillin revolutionary for the time being. Fleming now knew how to make penicillin and started to mass produce it. In the 1930s during the upgrading process of penicillin Fleming himself was cured of severe conjunctivitis. Then in the 1940s the fully developed penicillin was created. The creation of penicillin cured a wide variety of diseases, which led to the world excelling in growth, and penicillin improved the way of medicine at the time. The variety of diseases cured by penicillin made it a must have antibiotic. Penicillin was used to cure multiple diseases including syphilis, gonorrhea, tuberculosis, gangrene, pneumonia, diphtheria, and scarlet fever ( Common Antibiotics ). All the diseases have one thing in common, they all have the ability to spread, some faster than others. When a disease is discovered people tried to make a cure. When penicillin was made diseases that were thought to never have a cure were cured. People began to demand that penicillin be sold in local pharmacies. Penicillin was released to help people with the variety of diseases curable by
Ernest Chain and Howard Florey with the knowledge of Flemings work were able to successfully purify an extract of penicillin for testing. The tested it in 1940 on mice, they concluded that those who were given the penicillin lived whereas the others did not. Later in 1945 all three men received the Nobel Prize for their contr...
Doctors are trying to figure out how to kill these harmful bacteria’s. But it is getting harder to discover other antibiotics. APA CITATION :- History of Antibiotics - The Discovery by Alexander Fleming. n.d. - n.d. - n.d. Retrieved November 04, 2017, from https://explorable.com/history-of-antibiotics.
Alexander Fleming started the history of antibiotics in the 1920's with his discovery of penicillin. When penicillin was first discovered and used widely, it was touted as a wonder drug, and consequently was used as one.Though not necessarily harmful to the patient penicillin was used for much more infections than it was able to combat.Today the same practice is observed in the medical profession, however at this point it is due more to the detriment of an uneducated public.Studies have been carried out that show the huge over usage of antibiotics. In the seventies Soyka et al, concluded, "60% of physicians surveyed gave antibiotics for the treatment of the common cold."[3], and by common knowledge the common cold is a virus, something that cannot be treated by an antibiotic.Nyquist
...ing sealed his place in history with the discovery of lysozyme, it was his discover of Penicillin in 1928 that started the revolution of antibiotics and sealed his lasting reputation within the medical world. In 1945, Fleming was recognized for his achievements and he reached the Nobel Prize for Physiology. On March 11, 1955, Fleming died in London, England. (Brown, 2013)
Have you ever wanted to create or invent something that will be used forever? The mathematician, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz has! He has created MANY algorithms, inventions, and forms of math. He was known as the last “Universal Genius.” He contributed to fields of metaphysics, epistemology, logic, philosophy of religion, as well as mathematics, physics, geology, jurisprudence, and history. Many of his inventions and algorithms are used today most of which are used in everyday life.
At his Nobel Peace Prize speech in 1945, Alexander Fleming warned against the misuse of antibiotics and the fact that by doing this, one allows the bacteria to ‘become educated’ and therefore become resistant to the antibiotic. It is believed that the first cases of antibiotic resistance were shortly after this speech. (Fleming, 1945)
Drug is a chemical which alters the processes in the organism, which is used in the medicine for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the diseases (Farlex, 2011). Drug discovery is a long term process that needs money investment. The process of drug investigation takes approximately from 9 to 15 years during which the number of chemicals that can become drug is reduced from 10,000 to 1-2 (Saparov, 2011). Even after manufacturing the drug is studied by scientists for modifying its structure, delivery and effects on the organism. Drug discovery consists of several stages which help to examine its effectiveness and side effects.
