Alchemy Some alchemy was used to transmute the base metals into gold. This is not all of what alchemists have done. Alchemists have contributed many things to the world that we live in. Alchemy was also the discovery of a universal cure for disease. Another thing alchemy did was make people believe that there was a life after this (“History of Alchemy”). Alchemy could be assumed to be witch craft, but what we don’t known is that it was chemistry. There are many alchemists in history that have contributed to the science we know today.

Alchemy was found in many parts of the world but it all began in ancient Egypt. Examples of alchemy in ancient Egypt would be the Nile River always being fertile and the belief in the afterlife. It is stated that the famous Egyptian monarch named "Hermes Trismegistus" could have been the founder of alchemy(“From Ancient Egypt to Modern Times”). Other places that developed alchemy independently include China, Europe and Great Britain. Chinese alchemy is different than Egyptian alchemy. After the eighth century a man by the name of Jabir Haiyan took anesthetic compounds out of herbs which were used for general anesthesia during operations or difficult procedures. Jabir is also known well by what we know today as the periodic table of elements. An alchemist by the name of Glauber sodium sulfate in the seventeenth century. He also was the first to produce concentrated hydrochloric acid and improved the process of manufacturing nitric acid. ( “history of alchemy”).These are just a few of many alchemists who I chose to describe today. Many invented minerals or elements that we still use today. If it weren’t for alchemists we would be missing many thing in todays world. Many of these are crucial elements for scientists
