“Get Gritty or Go Home” What would you do if you were offered the position to be the president of a country? When Albert Einstein was presented the position to be the president of Israel, he refused. Grit is not laying down and letting the world walk all over you, and it is not standing idly by as you watch your life pass you by. Albert Einstein used perseverance, passion and loyalty to overcome obstacles and become the world’s best known physicist. To begin, Albert Einstein used perseverance to overcome prejudice. Loyalty is staying true to yourself and others. Firstly, Einstein used loyalty to stay with his family. Thus, Einstein used loyalty towards himself and his goals to complete high school. Thirdly, Einstein used loyalty towards the United States to help us win World War II. Biography.com, an online source, explains that Einstein “wrote President Roosevelt to alert him of the possibility of a Nazi bomb and to galvanize the USA to create its own [atomic] bomb” (biography). Hence, Einstein used loyalty by forewarning the United States of a possible atomic bomb, which we later dropped in Japan. For all these reasons, Einstein used loyalty to help and change the
A very obvious example of loyalty is, Penelope. She is faithful to Odysseus for over 20 years and does not give up for long time. Even when the suitors came to her house and ate her food and overstayed their welcome she did not budge and still stayed faithful to Odysseus for the whole time he was gone. She told the suitors that when she finished her tapestry she would choose who she wants to marry, but every night she would undo a piece of the tapestry just so it would take longer and it would give Odysseus more time to come back just so she would not have to choose one of the suitors.
Einstein’s education was unconventional for a person who was to become a success. Early on, he was failing a large number of his courses; and he transferred from a German school at age fifteen to a Swiss school, so that he could avoid compulsive military service in the German armed forces. By the age of sixteen, he officially became a school dropout. His grade school principle made the statement to his parents, “it didn’t matter what profession the boy prepared for because he wo...
The quality of being loyal to someone or something is a choice of action that helps define loyalty as a person. Being loyal would be a person giving or showing continuous support to someone or something. Loyalty plays a major role in everyday life. Some people honor loyalty and some people couldn’t care less about having such a thing. Loyalty consists of working a marriage out, maintaining a good reputation, and keeping a steady job. According to Maurice Franks, “Loyalty cannot be blueprinted. It cannot be produced on an assembly line. In fact, it cannot be manufactured at all, for its origin is the human heart the center of self-respect and human dignity. It is a force which leaps into being only when conditions are exactly right for it and it is a force very sensitive to betrayal.”
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines perseverance as the continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. In today’s society, there are so many walls and barriers that prevent humans from achieving their dreams and goals and people begin giving up. However, great poets such as Homer and famous music groups such as Mumford and Sons have used the strife of humanity to compose works that can be used to inspire and institute hope for humanity. With perseverance, there are three key aspects, struggle, loyalty, and strength. The struggle is what allows humans to learn, grow, and better themselves, the loyalty demonstrated provides motivation for success, and the personal strength allows the person to build
Josiah Royce is the author of The Philosophy of Loyalty and with in his book he talks about the fundamentals and importance of loyalty and conscience. Royce starts off by saying that loyalty is a belief and ideal. In order for one to find their loyalty they have to be able to choose what they are loyal to. People cannot impose loyalty onto someone. “A man is loyal but first, he has some cause to which he is loyal; when, secondly, he willingly and thoroughly devotes himself to this cause; and when, thirdly, he expresses his devotion in some sustained and practical way, by acting steadily in the service of his cause” (Royce 17). A person does not just go off of their own impulses when it comes to loyalty, people “look to their cause for guidance. This cause tells him what to do, and he does it” (Royce 18). But not everything a person is loyal to have to have a good cause. Some people are loyal to bad causes. Royce says that a lot of people are loyal, but they do not get credit for it because people are drawn to power. Therefore, if you are not in power people are not drawn to you. A person is loyal to a cause, but what makes a cause? “Our initial illustrations of possible causes were, first, a friendship which unites several friends into some unity of friendly life; secondly, a family, whose unity binds its members lives together; and thirdly, the state”
Perseverance is defined as steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement. This defines Sugar Ray Robinson. Sugar Ray Robinson was just a normal colored boy. He was born and raised in the South. He had a rough early life, due to the KKK, parents fighting, moving, pretty much everything that could’ve gone wrong went wrong. Then, he got involved in Boxing. He was good, and I mean good. He was so good in fact, he became known as one of, if not, the greatest boxer in history.
Although he is most well-known for his numerous groundbreaking contributions to science, Einstein also devoted a lot of time and energy throughout his life to causes that fought against discrimination in America, as well as ones that promoted peace across the world. Einstein is perhaps most famous for his theory of relativity, which played a major role in the development of the atomic
Many people show perseverance, including me. I showed perseverance when I failed a quiz and I knew to get my grade up I had to work harder and study more. I knew if my parents found out that I failed a quiz they would yell at me and would be disappointed on me for getting a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t study. This factor contributes me to work harder, I learned that I need to work harder to succeed, like Salva, how he showed perseverance by looking for his family.
Imagine living in a world where you could never feel safe. Every step you took, every move you made, every word you spoke, terrified you. It could either save you, or threaten your life. Imagine going from living a normal, everyday life to living in terror and fear, then waking up and trying to forget it all. That’s how thirteen year old, Albert Beder felt during the times of the Holocaust.
Few people in this world have played a pivotal role in history quite like Albert Einstein. The word genius is a common used when referring to Einstein, little is it known that he failed an entrance exam to a Swiss polytechnic school. Although he did not pass that exam he did not let that deter him from achieving his goal, he became a teacher in physics and mathematics, lecturing all across Europe. He contributed beyond the fields of science and math, spending 10 years of his life traveling and lecturing on the evils of armed conflict. Einstein also formed part of the League of Nations which aimed at preventing future wars. If Albert Einstein would not have warned the U.S. of German plans for an atomic bomb, we might all have lived under Nazi
...te a letter to President Roosevelt revealing to him the possibility of building the atomic bomb. His pacifist background kept reminding him of how he was betraying himself by writing the letter, but after all, it was his theories which had made it possible. After the end of World War II, Einstein became one of the foremost advocates of world peace, and disarmament of all atomic weapons. The end of the war in 1945 also brought his retirement from the Institute. He always maintained a simple lifestyle, never desiring to be famous, or be hounded by journalists, but he usually could not turn them down. Being the simple man he was, he even turned down an invitation from David Ben-Gurion in 1952 to be the President of Israel. His work and his constant demand for interviews always kept him busy, and he lived in New Jersey until his death at the age of 76 on April 18, 1955.
