The camera has changed the life of every single person in the modern world. The camera has affected everything from the transportation industry to politics to just relaxing at home. So how exactly did such an influential piece of technology come to be? The history of the camera goes back about 2600 years
The Chinese and Greek are the first recorded people to figure out that when light shines through a small hole it creates an image on the opposite side of the incoming light. In about 330 BC the next person to study these optic laws was Aristotle, a great and respected philosopher, when he noticed that when light shined through a square hole it made a circular image. Aristotle studied the optic laws and figured out that if there was a box with a small hole in it, then light could shine through the hole and create an upside down image in the back of the box; this was the beginning of the pinhole camera. It was about 1330 years later in about 1000 AD when someone else would study optic laws, that person was Alhazen. During the middle ages, Alhazen was a master of the optic laws and created the first pinhole camera. Alhazen was able to perfect the optic laws the Aristotle only studied, he was able to create something that Aristotle only dreamed of. Alhazen’s pinhole camera, also known as the camera obscura, was primarily

The digital camera opened a whole new market of cameras, one that doesn’t revolve around chemical reactions, but around technological advances. The perk that gives digital cameras so much potential is that there are only so many chemicals and chemical mediums that can be used in photography, but with digital, the potential in endless. Other reasons digital is so highly favored it because they can be super small, or super large to zoom in to super faraway
Our intention on the project was to separate the project with Tom doing the early years and I doing the later years in the company’s history. We would share the different information with each other helping each other understand the difficult technological information to hand with the different camera systems that were created threw out the years.

It is considered that photography only became widely available to the public when the Kodak Eastman Company introduced the box shaped Brownie Camera in 1900. (Baker, n.p.) Its features became more refined since its original placing on the market; one of the reasons why it has become considered the birth of public photography is because of the processing. Using a similar image capture system, the brownie exposed the light to a 120mm roll of film, which could be wound round, meaning six photographs could be taken before the slides needed removing. The first Brownie used a six-exposure cartridge that Kodak processed for the photographer. (Kodak.com, n.d.) Realistically, the armature photographers did not need to understand darkroom processes, they could simply use capture the subjects, and send it to be developed. The cameras were relatively affordable, targeting many different markets, which is apparent from their advertisements. Figure 2 Is an advertisement from for the Eastman Kodak Company’s Brownie Camera; It states in bold lettering “Operated by any school boy or girl” which emphasis how it was targeted for amateur use.
...el through time and show newer generations of the events of the past and the rich history of a particular country. With the use of all the technology over the years, photography has now become a major part of everyday life and the photographer behind the camera.
Cameras go way back to the year 1879, and have advanced greatly throughout the years. They used to be huge and bulky with all kinds of attachments and stands. Now they are so small and thin that they are put in everyday items that we use, for instance, cell phones and laptops. Backs then cameras were less than $40 and they were made with glass that was 6.5 by 8.5 inches thick (Patti). Now in this time of age, cameras can go from a few hundred bucks to thousands of dollars depending on the camera, and they are much smaller with clearer pictures now. In 1912 Kodak came out with the Vest Pocket camera, which sold for only six dollars. It had a glass lens of 2 1/4 by 3 1/4 inches thick, which is much
In 1943, Edwin H. Land, founder of Polaroid and his family were on vacation, he took a photo of his daughter and she asked him to see the photo of her right after it was taken, because of the curiousness of his daughter on that day inspired him of the instant camera (Linderman, 2010). Four years later, at the Optical Society of America meeting, he amazed the audience by demonstrated of the instant camera for the first time (Polaroid, 2017). Christopher Bonanos, an author of the story of Polaroid gave a definition that it is an instant photography at the push of a button. The new technology by Land was very fancy and wondrous to the world. “This is the first published photographic history of the Polaroid company”
In 1789, 90% of the people in America worked on farms-the rest worked in the cities and its factories. By the time the Civil War took place, most of these people went to the city. In present times, only 5% of the American population work on farms. As you can see, times have changed and lifestyles now differ from the past because of the marvelous Industrial Revolution.
In the beginning, all films were short. Audiences were not aware of this as they gazed at the marvelous new form of entertainment. As the 20th century began to approach, films started to get even longer. The very first film was introduced to audiences in 1894 through an invention created by Thomas Edison called the Kinetoscope. This device was made for viewing slideshows individually. Most films of the time depicted celebrities, current world affairs and other scenes in one shot scenes. The best known film from this era was the Lumière brothers’ Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat which was filmed in 1895. This film depicted a locomotive hurtling towards the audience.
With advanced body camera machinery such as GoPro growing more influential in today's civilization, controversy has emerged over whether law enforcement officers should be required to utilize body cameras or not, so that each and every movement is recorded and displayed while on duty. Police should be able to have these cameras on their attire at all times, no matter where they go as long as they are in duty. This allows officers to documentate everything and, unlike human beings, the cameras do not have the ability to lie so it will protect and safeguard any incorrect allegations. This type of technology should be dispersed to police stations in every single state because as society advances progressively more into
Although telescopes has been around for several hundreds of years, there has been great discrepancy as to who invented it first. Here is one authors opinion. Lippershey was a Dutch spectacle marker during the early 17th century (approximately 1600). He was one of the first who created the "looker" (now called telescope) by placing two pieces of lenses together. The discovery that placing lenses together can magnify images were made by children who took Lippershey's spectacles and looked at a distant church tower.
The history of the camera, it all started in 1816 with Nicephore Niepce made his first camera and a piece of paper coated in silver chloride, but sadly due to over exposure to light the photograph is now entirely black. Four years later Niepce used a sliding wooden box camera made by Parisian opticians Charles and Vincent Chevalier. Niepce coated each photo with Bitumen of Judea only one of those photographs has survived. Niepce died in 1833, after his death his partner Louis Daguerre took over with experimenting. By 1837 he had created the first practical photographic process, which he dubbed as the Daguerreotype and publicly unveiled it in 1839. In 1871 Richard Leach Maddox crearred gelatin dry plates which made it faster and had better
The idea for photographing came around in 1814 when Joseph Niépce wanted an image of his son before he left for war. He succeeded in making the first camera in 1827, but the camera needed at least eight hours to produce one picture. Parisian Louis Daguerre invented the next kind of camera in 1839, who worked with Niépce for four years. His camera only needed fifteen to thirty minutes to produce a picture. Both Niécpe’s and Daguerre’s cameras made pictues on metal plates. In the same year Daguerre made his camera, an Englishman by the name of William Henry Fox Talbot made the first camera that photographed pictures on paper. The camera printed a reverse picture onto a negative and chemicals were needed to produce the photo up right. In 1861, color film came along and pictures were produced with color instead of being just black and white. James Clerk Maxwell is credited with coming up with color film, after he took the ...
During his wide studies of optics, Alhazen was first to challenge the Greek’s theory of how the light comes out of the eye, and disproved it by proving how light bounces off of object and goes into our eye. To prove this, he studied the eye works itself using knowledge of previous scholars and dissection. Using this, he started to explain how light enters the eye, is focused and then gets projected to the back of the eye, where the image will be flipped upside down. With this knowledge, he was able to study the pinhole camera, which is one of his inventions. His concept of a pinhole camera is simple: a box with a tiny hole on one side is able to project an image of whatever is outside onto a side of the box on the inside.
Evolution of more than just a Camera? Cameras have documented many events in history that refuse to be forgotten. Some pictures capture life in a different time and captivate us into a moment that seems far away and perhaps mystical. Images can be found from WWI, WWI, and even as far back as the civil war. Not only are the horrors of war captured, but many other memorable moments as well. Many famous moments in celebrity history have also been caught on film, and leaders of our nation have also shared the same
There was a time when the only way to capture a moment or surrounding was by a painting. Joseph Nicephore Niepce created the first photograph ever in 1827. Photography went thru many beneficial changes since then only improving and
