Jejunely Vibrant
The feeling of the rubber orange basketball moving across the court causing their players to get back on defence. Sweat dripped down my face as the crowd screamed from excitement brought encouragement to the team. Watching the ball thrown around when finally someone passes to me. It was like a meteor coming straight at me, before I knew it, my hands grew clammy when I anticipated its fall, and how red it would make my hands. My heart thrummed against my rib cage and I prepared myself to pass it to one of my teammates, unafraid. I caught it, clenched it, then threw the basketball to my nearby teammate. She caught and we scored, earning a cheer from the crowd. Another point for the Laurel Spartan Basketball Team. Looking back at it, it surprised me. Never in a million years would my freshman self believe this.
I finally had a purpose in life that'll benefit both my team and I. On the Laurel Spartan basketball team, everybody played a role in helping each other, and that's what we did, not only did I improved my skills in basketball but education wise. Everybody stayed on top of everyone so that everybody on the team would be able to play. Basketball coach, Harrison, was the head coach,

As I check the time, it seems as though time won't move faster. The sound of shuffling papers and the moving of desks and the feeling of stuffiness overwhelmed me. As the teacher lectured, the stillness of the room made it even more hard to focus. Finally the bell rings, the sound of freedom. I rushed from the school, eager to get home. I went straight home from school thinking that the next day would be the same. I always felt I was missing something, felt like I needed a spark to jump start my life. I wanted to do something, to become the person I was afraid to be. This was my last year of school, and I was going to make the best of
Baseball has been a part of me for quite a while now. I have done something baseball related each week for the past several years. It has really changed what I like to do in my spare time, and it also had changed my priorities. This was the first sport I would have played, and I haven’t played a different sport since the start of me playing Baseball. There were and still are so many ways baseball has changed my life.
Raised in a small town of 750 people, where high school sports meant everything, sport has played a tremendous role in my life. Basketballs and footballs replaced stuffed animals in cribs, and dribbling a basketball came before learning to ride a bike. I started playing basketball in the second grade, and I hated it. We always played in the division above us and we hardly ever won a game, but after watching Coach Summitt and the Tennessee Lady Volunteers win back to back National Championships, the same years my high school girls basketball team won back to back State Championships, I fell in love with the game. In fact, sport is what led me to the University of Tennessee; I admired Pat Summitt, not only because of the number of wins and National
“Our deepest fear is not that were are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be?” This is one of my favorite quotes to which I associate with greatly. It derives from the book A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of "A Course in Miracles" by Marianne Williamson. Now because of hard work I have overcome adversity and almost reached the point in my life where I am content with myself.
I saw that the girl, who was taking the ball, turned her stick in the direction she heard the voice, but she did not look up to make sure that nobody was covering her. Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion as she pulled her stick back and hit the ball. Afterward I sped back over to where the ball was soaring and reached out my stick, I then tried to hit the ball. I felt like a bull charging at a red flag as I whacked the ball to the ground. My coaches and my team went wild, in joy that I had just blocked the most powerful ball I had ever seen. I felt like a bull who finally reached its goal to finally reach that red flag. I finally felt like I had accomplished my goal. I had waited years for this to
Everyone has a special event that determines our life journey. This event can give us identity, happiness or even pain and sadness. The special event that changed my life was deciding to play basketball because basketball helped me find peace, happiness and gave me identity. When I was ten years old my grandfather succumbed to cancer. His death created hatred inside of me.
The game of baseball has always had an enormous impact on my life. Baseball has been an continuous pastime since I can remember. I have my father to thank for the passion I have for the game. Spending my childhood with my father in the field practicing grounders, pop ups, and hitting in the batting cage allowed myself to acquire a love for the game. I will never forget the feeling of suiting up into my uniform and taking the field with my with my teammates awaiting the unexpected experiences I would face. Anxiously I waited, dreaming of the unbelievable plays like making the game winning catch or a walk off homerun I would perform in my mind to translate onto the field. With my parents watching, I strived for my opportunity to make an impact on the game. That had always given me excitement in the game of baseball. The best part of baseball is that anything can happen no matter what the odds and your judgement is.
Misfortune Junior Year Baseball was my first ever high school tryout mainly because it was the only sport I played. Sure I was nervous, but all my hard work and dedication playing travel baseball helped those nerves. I still remember tryouts very vividly. I felt like I was smooth as could be in the field and hit fairly well at the plate. Then, tryout results were posted and my speed walk to the list after school begun.
“The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the team won’t be worth a dime. ”-Babe Ruth. I have played baseball my whole life, but it truly changed my life the day I tried out for the East Coast Sox.
I have throughout my whole life been playing sports. I still play basketball competitively and now it’s at the university level. Basketball though was not my first love when it came to playing sports. It has though become my true focus since junior high school. Coming from Canada everybody plays hockey. Its almost as if as soon as you learn to walk you learn how to skate. Whether it is at the recreation centre or at the shinny rink around the corner everyone plays. Eventually I abandoned hockey to play basketball which I have done so for the last twelve years of my life and hopefully a few more years into the future.
When you look at a basketball what do you see? Most would see an orange, sphere, shaped rubber ball. There are black lines and real leather. If you look closer, you would even see the size of the ball in which you are playing with. A basketball could be just a toy for many, or even represent a release for others, but for me, it means a lot more. A basketball represents my blood, sweat, tears, passion, sacrifice, and most of all, a sense of belonging, like a family. At this moment in my life, there are only three things I devote my life to- family, friends, and basketball. Basketball has shaped my life probably more than anything else. Basketball has instilled in me a vicious will to achieve and embrace my ambitions instead of fearing them. Basketball gave me an open opportunity to try something new. New opportunities and experiences are not such a big deal anymore. From academics to personal matters, the lessons that I have learned from basketball has impacted my life.
Walking on the court, dressed for practiced, knowing that this was a sacred place where I could show everyone who I really was without facing any type of judgement. Basketball had the ability to take all my insecurities aside and showcase the leader that I had the potential to be not only on the court, but in life. This sport shaped me to be a determined, committed, confident, reliable, coachable and happy individual. After being at the collegiate level, my life changed and I was lost. Graduating from California State University of Monetery Bay with a B.A. in Sociology was a great accomplishment.
Throughout my life I have always been active in sports. In early years that sport was baseball but as I matured and grew older it became apparent that baseball simply was not my sport. I did not make the junior high team in seventh grade and have not played a game of baseball since. At that point in my life I was not a very athletic or active kid. Later in the seventh grade school year I heard about tryouts for the Cross Country team and decided to try it.
Now, the ball that I had called for is coming my way. The approach I took was very wide, allowing me to set up in the perfect position to kill the ball. Two opposing players go up to block, but set up about two feet apart from each other. I watch as the rubber sphere travels across the net. I feel the muscles in my legs reverberate like rubber bands as I jump as high I possibly could. Then, finally the ball is there. It was within reach, and I made contact. I smacked the ball harder than I ever had before, placing it between the opposing players. The ball seemed to go in fast motion, moving quickly to the shiny hardwood floor. It caromed off into the distance, never to be seen again. If you never try, you will never be able to achieve your greatest
If you were to ask my friends what I love to do, my guess is that the majority of them would come up with this reply, "He loves to play sports". Sports are a big part of my life, and if I had to choose my favorite sport to play it would have to be basketball. I couldn't imagine going a week without being able to touch a basketball, and I thought I would never have to. But on one summer afternoon, that all changed when I broke my leg. It left me on crutches for two months, and not being able to play basketball all that summer. At first I thought it wouldn't be so bad, getting all the attention and sympathy from everyone. However, after one game I soon realized that I would do just about anything to get rid of those horrible crutches and get back on the court.
Basketball is one of the interesting sports I have always wanted to engage myself; even as a little child. It was a dream come true when I started playing basketball in my high school. Moreover, I was very good in it, and I became the team leader. Of course, I enjoyed every bite of the time I spent playing basketball.
