What is your favorite art medium to work with? While I am most comfortable with using graphite, I would say that watercolor is my favorite medium. To me, the times I spend using watercolors are truly serene. The medium has a life of it’s own and encourages it’s users to explore their art in a fun and carefree manner. When did you first discover your artistic talent? Art has always been a part of my life. There is not a book, or notepad, in my home that does not have a plethora of drawings scattered throughout it. However, it was not until ninth grade that I enrolled in any formal art classes and experienced just how truly taken with art I was. Specific examples of times it has made you happy, helped you work through a situation or perhaps it has influenced others, etc. Do you have any art schools in mind? I’ve always imagined myself going to the Ringling College of Art and Design. My teacher has brought up art school on multiple occasions, but I never was sure exactly what I would if I went. After looking into Ringling, I fell in love with their fine art program and knew that I wanted to be a part of it in the future. What was your inspiration for the piece of art that won in our contest? Frida Kahlo is decidedly a favorite artist of mine. Her paintings hold a story, moving their viewers to feel her emotions in life. With just one glance at one of her pieces, you are thrown into her world. It’s truly captivating. Taking that inspiration she gave me, I decided to create this piece of art. A comic book styled isn’t something people would normally associate with her, but I felt it captured the constant action she had going on around her in life.
