When I am older, I want to be successful, but at what, and how? have always been interested in the sciences, specifically biology. I would like to study biology more at the cellular level or the molecular level, or possibly even environmental science. I also do enjoy math, for it is something that I am good at. A job that I would one day like to is to help people and the environment. As a 26-year old successful adult, I would like to see myself in the field of science. I would be an environmental scientist because I would like to help discover more ways we can preserve the earth for future generations to enjoy the Earth as we do. Another job I see myself doing is a job like my father’s job. A molecular biologist that looks into the viruses that cause diseases. I would love to help discover a drug that could prevent people from …show more content…
Hard work helps toward leading a happy and successful life. If you want to be successful, set goals and do your best to work hard and reach them. In the article, How 9 Incredibly Successful People Define Success, Drake Baer quotes nine different people with different definitions of success. One person Baer quotes is John Wooden who talks about doing your best, “Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.” His views on success in part, agree with my views on success. Doing your best will help you to reach for your goals. In the same article, Baer researches Winston Churchill, a British politician, “Success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.” Both Churchill and I hold the opinion that even if you fail, you should get up and keep going. To not think of it as a failure, but think of it as a lesson on what not to do next time. For example, If someone is making a cake, and it burns, they know that next time they should not bake it for so
Generally speaking, success isn’t just about what you accomplish in life, it’s how you accomplished it and the impact you
I agree with Gladwell that hard work can lead to success. Too often we think success happens because someone has money or gets lucky. This is wrong. Success takes hard work, imagination, and motivation. “Success is not a random act. It arises out of a predictable and powerful set of circumstances and opportunities.” (Gladwell 52) If you assert yourself and use your mind and imagination, you can create those
A Few Keys to All Success by Jim Muncy, published in 2002 explains that there are 7 universal keys to success that we can relate to everyday life. Discernment, Optimism, Responsibility, Initiative, Perseverance, Purpose, Sacrifice. Each one represents how we grow and teaches us how to have a high quality of life. From reading this book I am confident because I know being normal means being average and what we do can change how we act significantly. Also we can’t let the world hold us back from greatness. There will be negativity, there will be those who lack enthusiasm but you can’t let them interfere in what you have in store. And these keys will help you get to that point in your life. Discernment; Judge the seed by the harvest. The first
Success is a unique characteristic that almost everybody has strived for since the beginning of time. There are many different ways to define and explain success, and in Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell sets out to rationalize it and explain the circumstantial happenings that lead people to the success they have acquired. Success is about becoming an outlier; someone who has completely mastered their craft and is an expert in their field that few other people would be able to match. No matter your stance on Obama’s success as a president, it is fact that to win the election in the first place Obama already had to be a major success. Gladwell argues many claims that strive to help his audience understand the factors that come together to create success. Some claims he argues revolve around how success is determined by someone’s childhood and the way they were raised. He also states how time period and work ethic play major roles in the quest for success. One person who fits almost any definition of success is United States President Barack Obama. Becoming the leader of the free world is a position that
Patrick Combs’ book, Major in Success is a very useful guide for college students and young adults that are interested in furthering their careers and futures. Comb stresses the importance of extraordinary drive and how it can lead to greatness. I found this book very useful because Comb focuses his book around four ways that students can follow to become successful after college that we also focused on in class as well. Comb argues the idea that one must find their passions in order to become successful by stressing that: it is important to admit one’s interests to find out what they like to do, it is beneficial to find one’s true aspirations so that they can narrow down their interests, it is helpful too realize that there are many jobs related to one’s interests so they can find the right job, and it is necessary that one faces their fears so they can be successful.
My philosophy of success, is me growing into the person I want to become and being comfortable with the choices I decide to make in life. Success is not something I can achieve overnight, it’s something I must plan for then proceed to working hard for it as well. Without hard work, there isn’t anything successful about the job I want to get done or the job I wish to get done. Doing anything without hard work and dedication, and expecting the best outcome is not success; it’s mediocrity. Being mediocre/ will only allow me or anyone else to have a ‘Victim’s Mindset.’
Outliers is a nonfiction text written by Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell came from a successful family, which was advantageous during his childhood however, he struggled during college, which led up to him getting rejected from a graduate school. Gladwell then pursued a job in advertising, while being rejected by almost every advertising agency. Gladwell eventually accepted a job in journalism, which eventually would begin Gladwell’s success in writing books. Gladwell endured failure early on in his career; eventually the hard work you put in pays off. In Outliers, Gladwell wants to describe a different way of success to his readers. He attempts to convince the readers that they can shape the world by working hard for the things that they set out to accomplish on a daily base. Even with the advantages and disadvantages that come along with it. Gladwell’s purpose throughout Outliers is to change the way that Americans today view success. Gladwell makes many claims throughout the book. The claims help Gladwell unfold his argument by describing the way success is viewed. Gladwell mentions how some things in life do matter like when you’re born and your home life. Those are the advantages and disadvantages that contribute to your
Your wealth or status shouldn’t define you, Your character and kindness should. In this essay you’ll read the difference of Nature and nurture. On one hand “nature” is how you act because of your genes while “nurture” is adapting to your environment whether is good or bad. In one of our articles we read about the “Affluenza teen” who thinks he should get special treatment because he is wealthier than others, while in the second article we read about “orchid children” and “dandelion children”.
In his book What Got You Here Won’t Get You There, Marshall Goldman puts forth the theory that success itself can lead to future failures if those who succeed become complacent and don’t recognize our ability to become stagnant. He brings forth concepts that exalt our faults as virtues, simply because our faults are who we are. As individuals, we exhibit behavior that defines us. Goldman stresses the obvious in that our habits and shortcomings if unaddressed, can lead to inconsistencies and even challenges. He notes that for the continued growth of leadership, mindfulness in all areas of life cannot be understated and under groomed.
What makes a successful person successful? If a person were to explore what it takes to become successful they may come to the conclusion that it takes hard work. In Malcom Gladwell’s novel “Outliers” Gladwell explores this essential question and comes to the conclusion that great success is a product of circumstances and actions “that are out of the ordinary” (Gladwell 17). Gladwell labels successful people as “Outliers” (Gladwell 17) and defines them as “men and women who do things that are out of the ordinary.” (Gladwell 17) In addition, Gladwell goes on to give examples of such people, and begins with hockey players and states that “it is only by asking where they are from that we can unravel the logic behind who succeeds and who doesn’t” (Gladwell 19). Furthermore, Gladwell comes to the conclusion that Hockey players born in the first three months of a year have a much higher percentage chance of playing professional hockey. These are the people which are products of circumstances that were out of the ordinary and out of their control.
When I was younger I always found myself interested in science of all varieties. In elementary school, I aspired to be a scientist, but I was not sure what career path to take. In 10th grade, I found myself in Pre-AP Biology thinking that biology, although fascinating and complex, made perfect sense to me. I took AP Biology during my Junior year and felt that same pull. I loved biology and was certain that I wanted to study biology in college. My big question was what could I possibly do with a Biology degree.
Personal success is also a big part of living well. 'There is only one success . . . to be able to spend your life in your own way, and not to give others absurd maddening claims upon it.'; This quote by Christopher Morley describes what is really meant by personal success. Personal success has to do with being happy. One can only be truly happy if they are happy and secure with themselves. Personal success is about being yourself and not being afraid to do so. It is about not letting others dictate your life or make you feel that you have to change who you are.
Success only truly comes with being happy. Happiness and success are the accomplices of one another. Someone cannot have accompanies without the other. Happiness brings success, and success brings even more happiness. Success, in the dictionary, is defined as the achievement of something desired planned or attempted. Therefore, success cannot be judged by anyone than oneself. It is a personal thing. It is the realization of goals, desires or plans made by one 's self. It is not measurable and yet is something we always use to compare others or appraise someone 's worth. Success, in one form or another, is something that someone should always be striving for. For some people it is something they will do subconsciously, and for others it will be something they will constantly labor for. Because success is something that is different for everyone, it is best that they measure their personal success by their sense of self worth instead of others. To have succeeded is to have lived, as someone wanted; ' it is to have lived well and laughed
