The Houston Rocket are one of the American Professional basketball team that join in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and have won two championship in the NBA competition and four Western Conference titles. Rockets were founded by Robert Breitbard in 1967 in San Diego, California before moving to Houston in 1971. The franchise choose the name as “Rockets” because they homaging San Diego’s theme of a “city in motion” and the local arm of General Dynamics developing the Atlas missile and booster rocket program. Rocket did not have a high performance in any competition and the playoff in either season because of this low performance and attendance, Breitbard decided to sell them to Texas Sports Investments in 1971 which was led by Wayne Duddleston and banker Billy Goldberg. …show more content…

The team’s nickname of “Rockets” have even greater relevance after the move, given Houston’s long connection to the space industry. The differences between black and white players has been going on for a long time since the early 1920’s. The players have always been at each other since the Negro Leagues have been around. There were two players that made the transition from the Negro Leagues to the Majors and those players were Satchel Paige and Jackie Robinson. Most people know of Robinson more than Paige because of the Brooklyn Dodgers recruiting him from Kansas City Monarchs. Satchel Paige was a pitcher from the Kansas City Monarchs like Robinson but he was recruited to the Cleveland Indians at the time. Paige has changed baseball today because he has shown new ways to pitch, broke the racial barrier with Robinson, and was an influence on many players in todays day.
Wayne Gretzky once said, “I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been”. This quote helps represent how he was always looking to be the best.
There are a lot of options in the San Antonio real estate market at this time, which can prove to be a bit taxing for a prospective home buyer. Those interested in purchasing a home can browse through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) in order to view all of the listings available. As a whole, the real estate market is thriving, yet the general price of properties in the area are surprisingly affordable.
The Texas Rangers were absolutely abysmal last year, garnering the worst record in the AL, and in no way looking like a postseason team. Rangers manager had two options, and neither looked like a winning situation. He could blow up the team and try and rebuild it over the course of a couple years. But that wasn’t good enough for Daniels, he trusted his work years and years before, and he knew he had something with this bunch. So he stuck it out, made some minor moves, and boy has it paid off.
“Keep moving the ball around and dump it inside to Hakeem.” – Rudy Tomjanovich Sounds pretty easy right. Wrong. While Hakeem Olajuwon was one the most dominating centers that the NBA has ever seen, the defense usually didn’t let him get easy buckets inside the paint. Or at least try not too. The offense that coach Tomjanovich used during the Houston Rockets back-to-back championships relied heavily on Hakeem’s post skills and the ability of their outside shooters to knock down wide open looks. This kind of offense is known as a 4-Out, 1-In Motion Offense and it is probably one of the easiest offenses that a team can use. The concept of the offense is to get the ball and defense moving and end up getting the easiest shot possible. This system requires good outside shooters and at least one decent post player. Deciding on which sets to use depends on the players on the team skill set and what kind of defensive set the other team is playing. In this paper I will break down three of the most used sets of the 4-Out, 1-In Motion Offense when an opponent goes into a man-to-man defensi...
Houston is the city that I used to live in on the outskirts of Houston; however, after I have blogged about Houston since day one I have learned a great deal in Houston and where it came from. Houston is a diverse city which is main up of all kinds of race, ethnic background, and religious. It is a great city to settle down and have a family in the suburban. It also a great city to start a career in the medical field, due to all the hospitals around the area. Houston is the “fourth most populous city in the nation” and “the largest in the southern U.S. and Texas.” Houston also has many places that you can go and explore and different attractions you can go to spend time with friends and family. Did you know Houston has “More than 90 languages
“Houston was founded in 1836 by two brothers,” (World Book Encyclopedia pg. 394) John K. Allen and Augustus Allen. They bought 6,642 acres on which to build the great city. They decided to name the city after their friend Sam Houston. “He was a general that led the army that won Texas’s freedom from Mexico.” (Passionate Nation pg. 274) Sam Houston also became the first Texas president. The brothers built a capitol building; it was two stories tall and made completely out of wood. The Texas Congress moved from Colombia to the new capitol building. Within four months after Houston was founded, more than 1,500 people were living there. Once the city started growing, Houston became very famous for its popular port. The port sent goods to and received goods from all around the world. Sadly, in the 1900s a hurricane hit it. “Houston helped out in World War II. They helped with ship building, steel producing, and producing oil.” (visithoustontexas.com) Houston’s history is very rich and so is its culture.
For years I’ve been planning a family vacation but had never decided a pleasant and fascinating place to visit. A lot of people relate the adventures in San Antonio for tourists. To mention a few, The Riverwalk, Sea World, Six Flags Fiesta, and The Tower of the Americas are the main attractions that would be perfect for a family trip. I was so enthusiastic and explored more into it. I gave my family the great news of going and exploring this amazing city on our own! San Antonio offers the best of attractions and activities in all Texas! Whether you’re looking for popular entertainment for the whole family or to spend time with your friends, I was so positive I had made a superb decision!
John Richardson Harris was the founder of Harrisburg. During the Texas Revolution most of Harrisburg was destroyed by the forces of Santa Anna. After the Revolution ended, Houston was founded west of Harrisburg and named the county seat of Harrisburg County and capital of the Republic of Texas. Later on Harrisburg County was shortened to Harris County after the city of Harrisburg was destroyed. The county seat was moved to Houston in 1837 and this is where the courthouse was built for one reason of Houston being a “lively commercial atmosphere”. There were five courthouses in Houston that all occupied the same plot of land that was selected by the founders of Houston, the Allen brothers. The fifth courthouse built was the one that is still used today, started construction in 1909 and was completed that next year in 1910. “Since its official opening on November 15,1910, and dedication on Texas Independence Day on March 2,1911, the Harris County 1910 Courthouse has symbolized strength, justice, good government, and security. The Harris County courthouse is exactly located at the corner of Congress and San Jacinto Street. The address is 49 San Jacinto St #303 Houston, Texas.
The Stanley Cup has been forgotten on the side of the road, being kicked into a canal and taken into a swimming pool (“Stanley Cup Fast Facts.”). In the 125 year history of the Stanley Cup, it is possibly the most traveled trophy in all of professional sports. The Cup has undergone many changes to both its shape and the format in which one must go through to hoist it. Hoisting the Cup is one of the greatest honors someone can receive and is a dream come true for everyone who has had the chance.
Washington Nationals is a baseball team based in Washington D.C, but they were originally from Montreal, Canada and they were known as Montreal Expos. However, the Expos moved to Washington D.C and become the Nationals in 2005. This means the Nationals were from outside of the United States. I stood yesterday afternoon engaged in the immense time consuming game of baseball. I stood there contemplating on what ideas, mainly about baseball, were being distorted and confused. Then it hit me…
