“The House of the Rising Sun” is a classic song released by The Animals in 1964. This song had the use of two guitars, a drum set, and also a keyboard to create the music, and then the lead singer to sing the song. “The House of the Rising Song” has been sung in a countless number of versions and has also acquired many different titles to the song until The Animals released it. A cover to a song is when another artist sings a famous song but typically puts their own spin on it. This particular song has had over one-hundred covers and two famous ones are by Haley Reinhart and Five Finger Death Punch.
The first cover is by Haley Reinhart, who performed this song during season 10 of the famous show, American Idol. Reinhart came out singing this song a cappella for the first 0:31 seconds of the song, until the instrumentation began to play with her, which included drums, piano, and a few other instruments. Reinhart has a very strong and powerful voice, but creates a raspy tone throughout the song. Reinhart is a very powerful singer, and her rendition of the song is my favorite cover to “The House of the Rising Sun.”

Next, was a cover performed by Five Finger Death Punch.
This song was released in 2013 on their album titled “The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Volume 2.” This version of the song is in a very low key and is “talked” more than sang. Throughout the song there is one line that is different words than that of the typical song. The different words that are put into the song are “Sin City”, which is a reference to Las Vegas, instead of using the original “New Orleans” The style of this cover is Rock N Roll with a little bit of scream-o added in. Towards the end of the song there is a very long period of time dedicated to purely instruments playing. This version is my least favorite cover I have heard of this song mainly because I do not like songs that are not fully
sung. Overall, The Animals classic take on “The House of the Rising Sun”, although is great, is not my favorite. Haley Reinhart’s rendition brings something new to the table and is beautifully sung in a way that would make anyone envious of her voice. Although Five Finger Death Punch’s version of the song was different and interesting it was too far out there for my enjoyment. Sometimes the original of a song cannot be beat, but other times it is alright to find a newer version or cover that makes someone fall in love with a song even more.
"Sing Sing Sing," was originally written for a small orchestra and included vocals, this original arrangement is featured on a number of earlier Louis Prima recordings. However, once Louis rewor...

The year was 1966 Frank Sinatra was at the peak of his career. There he stood on the stage in the Copa Room at the Sands Hotel and Casino in front of Count Basie and his Orchestra recording what is considered the best album of his career. The album “Sinatra at the Sands” would be his first album recorded live to be released and the album would achieve gold in sales. Sinatra was in his environment, a cozy salon style venue with an enthusiastic crowd in Las Vegas. The album was recorded by Reprise and the label engineer was Lowell Frank and produced by Sonny Burke. Reprise had formerly recorded two other albums: “Sinatra-Basie” and “It Might As Well Be Swing” with Sinatra and Count Basie, but it was their performance at the Sands Hotel that would promote both performers carriers beyond what either one of them were able to do on the own.
The Wiz is a musical/movie released in 1978 that was an adaptation of the popular film “Wizard of Oz”. It included several very popular stars of the time, which were Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Nipsey Russell. The movie set place in New York City where the main character, Dorothy, suddenly is swept by a tornado in the middle of a snowstorm. She later then found herself lost in a city she had no clue about and curious as to how she could return home. After meeting 3 other characters during her journey that share similarities, they all embarked on a trip to OZ to fix each of their problems. Throughout the movie characters apply their own soundtrack through singing songs in harmony that compliment the mood of each scene.
I went to the Apopka High School fall band concert on Thursday, November 19th, 2015 for my cultural event. Different artists featured throughout this concert include Francis Scott Key with the Star Spangled Banner, Peter Blair with the Woodchopper’s Ball, and Carmen Dragon with America the Beautiful. This concert was centered on giving thanks to the veterans that serve or have served our country, and I thought it would be a unique experience to attend. I was moved by all the veterans that stood up in the audience to be recognized. One of the artists I would like to take a closer look at is Francis Scott Key with the Star Spangled Banner. I believe that this song can be related back to western civilization through the Classic era with the Roman
The two songs which shall be scrutinized shall be Roxanne. Originally released in 1978, it was performed by ‘The Police’. The cover version El Tango de Roxanne was rearranged by Mariano Mores in Moulin Rouge, 2001.
It is a wonderful song that captures a lot of history in a short time just to describe how great Billy and Reno think each other are. At the beginning of the song they explain why they are about to sing and then at the end of the first verse say, "At least it'll tell you how great you are."(Porter 8). Right after the last sentence of the first verse the chorus begins with, "You're the top! You're the Coliseum."(Porter 9).
Paste Magazine revealed that The Shins' cover of Paul McCartney's 'Wonderful Christmas Time' knocked Mariah's song and bumped it down to the number two spot.
The genre i have studied is musicals. A musical is a film which has musical performances from the actors to express their feelings. The films from this genre that i studied are 'Singin' In The Rain' (Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, 1952), 'Grease' (Randall Kleiser, 1978) and 'Hairspray'(Adam Shankman, 2007). I studied two characteristics of the musical genre (Breaking Into Song And Dance and The Grande Finale) that are shown in the films studied. The identifying characteristics of 'Breaking Into Song And Dance' and 'The Grande Finale" are always seen in musicals. These characteristics are expected to be in a musical by the audience and ultimately make a musical what we predict it to be, a film that expresses characters feelings through song while
Jay was to open with a set of his renditions of some major hits from the past fifty years, which had me thinking it was going to be a long night. I am very seldom a fan of covers, let alone covers of originals I have listened to hundreds of times. I began frantically searching for my server because I intended to make a preemptive strike on the pain I was about to endure.
On the other hand, I believe that cover songs in the 50s were a bad thing. These songs were covered for different purposes than they are today. Race was the primary issue as to why many songs were covered. Perhaps the key song for rock and roll that has been covered is “Rock Around the Clock” originally recorded by Sonny Dae and His Knights in 1954.
There is a triangle in the center, with a reflection going off. Inside the reflection of the light going through the triangle, it slowly turns into a rainbow. Storm Thorgerson designed the album during the 1970’s.( http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/storm-thorgerson-how-i-designed-the-cover-of-dark-side-of-the-moon-20110928) I feel as though this album represents the bands image by its psychedelic features that the band would put on through their performances. People believe that this album has many different meanings and that the color’s in the rainbow mean different things, but I believe that it is just a rainbow reflecting on a light, kind of like the “calm after the storm”.
With 35 phenomenal songs heard in Pitch Perfect 2, “Flashlight” originally sang by Jessie J, was a jaw-opener when performed by the Barden Bellas. This song was clearly the song snatcher for the sequel. The integral feeling brought by the song shows how much friendships mean to the
The song that I choose to do this assignment on is Fight the Power by Public Enemy. Fight the Power was written in 1989 and quickly became a street anthem for millions of youths. It reflects with issues dealing with both the Civil Rights Movement and to remind everyone that they too have Constitutional Rights. This particular song is about empowerment but also fighting the abuse of power that is given to the law enforcement agencies. It gave citizens of the U.S a more modern outlook on the many struggles that not only the African American community is up against but the other minority groups as well. The song’s message was eventually supposed to bring people together and make the world a better place, even though some teens saw it as a way
