AUTOBIOGRAPHY

My life has almost always had animals in it. When I was five or six years old, I started riding horses. The name of the first horse I rode was Stretch. He was a very calm, sweet horse. When my instructor walked him around, I liked to walk like him. Then when I got to ride him, I found out that it was very easy to stay on. Sadly, I had to leave, and I cried on my way back to my house. As my life went on I kept riding horses, we tried many different farms. They were fun, but not what I wanted. One place we went I rode a horse named Olivia. She was a very good horse, and when I rode her she did exactly what I wanted. We left her and went
Indian Horse is a novel by Richard Wagamese that beautifully explores the idea of family, and what it means to have people around you that make you feel at home. The reader is bombarded with an overwhelming sense of family and betrayal in the first few pages of the novel. As Richard Wagamese continues to write, one is able to see how safe Saul Indian Horse felt with his biological family, and he also shows how lost he felt without their love when he was taken to the Residential School. The school he was brought to was drained of all consensual love the moment it was open, and continued to fill the children with horrible feelings the entire time they were there. Indian Horse was unable to really feel as though he still had family while he was in the
Nobody likes being uncomfortable, right? Many people stuff their feelings deep down inside themselves. A good example of this is myself, when I get frustrated, mad, or sad I don’t talk; instead, I keep all of my thoughts and feelings inside. Many times people get nervous or feel uncomfortable and push it down inside of themselves. This discomfort is just what Louise Erdrich portrays in her short story “American Horse,” through the police and social worker when they create a stressful and uncomfortable atmosphere.o This stressful and uncomfortable atmosphere is created through the house search, when Koob and Officer Brackett flirt with each other, and Koob’s sweat.*
Louise Erdrich’s short story “American horse” is a literary piece written by an author whose works emphasize the American experience for a multitude of different people from a plethora of various ethnic backgrounds. While Erdrich utilizes a full arsenal of literary elements to better convey this particular story to the reader, perhaps the two most prominent are theme and point of view. At first glance this story seems to portray the struggle of a mother who has her son ripped from her arms by government authorities; however, if the reader simply steps back to analyze the larger picture, the theme becomes clear. It is important to understand the backgrounds of both the protagonist and antagonists when analyzing theme of this short story. Albetrine, who is the short story’s protagonist, is a Native American woman who characterizes her son Buddy as “the best thing that has ever happened to me”. The antagonist, are westerners who work on behalf of the United States Government. Given this dynamic, the stage is set for a clash between the two forces. The struggle between these two can be viewed as a microcosm for what has occurred throughout history between Native Americans and Caucasians. With all this in mind, the reader can see that the theme of this piece is the battle of Native Americans to maintain their culture and way of life as their homeland is invaded by Caucasians. In addition to the theme, Erdrich’s usage of the third person limited point of view helps the reader understand the short story from several different perspectives while allowing the story to maintain the ambiguity and mysteriousness that was felt by many Natives Americans as they endured similar struggles. These two literary elements help set an underlying atmos...
In Richard Wagamese’s novel, Indian Horse, the protagonist Saul Indian Horse is taken to St. Jerome’s Indian Residential School where he is stripped of his identity. Saul is kidnapped by his grandmother and is taken to residential school. When he arrived he was somewhat accepted right away due to the fact he has a biblical name and he spoke English. However, this does not exempt him from the sufferings experienced as an indigenous child at St. Jerome’s residential school. On a daily basis, Saul witnessed multiple children suffer and be beaten or locked up.
The equestrian sport takes time, dedication, and lots of financial support. I never had the same financial advantage as that of my peers, but I made up for it in drive and passion. Only being fifteen at the time of buying my first horse, I was at a loss with very little experience. Nevertheless, my spur to be as accomplished or even more so than the riders around me compensated for my lack in finances.
A great preacher and poet, Edwin Hubbel, once declared that “Not in achievement, but in endurance, of the human soul, does it show its divine grandeur and its alliance with the infinite” (qtd. by Edwin Hubbel). The main character in the novel Indian Horse illustrates the theme of endurance through his actions in various environments. From the harsh Ontario bush, to St. Jerome’s, and then to a racist community that hates him, Saul, the protagonist of the book, demonstrates endurance. He approaches each environment differently, portraying the many forms suffering can take in the real world.
he horse, Equus ferus caballus, is a subspecies from the family Equidae. Over the past 50 million years, through survival adaptations, the common horse has evolved from a relatively small, multi-toed animal into the large, single toed animal known today (Wilson,. Mammal Species of the World (3rd ed.). Baltimore).
War Horse is the sad story of a thoroughbred horse named Joey and his journey from a farm horse to a horse used in the war, eventually leading him back to his home in Devon. Joey has a number of different owners in each part of the story. His truly original owner is those who own the pasture where he is born in Devon. This person is never named in this story but is still recognized as Joey’s original owner. When Joey comes of age he is taken to auction to be sold. Here he is bid on until Ted Narracott outbids his competitors. He takes Joey home where his wife disapproves of his decision and tells him to take the horse back. Ted’s son Albert begs his mom to keep Joey and says he will train the horse himself. Ted gives Joey to Albert, and he
Having a “niche” is important to many people, you have to have something that you are good at and makes you work at to better yourself everyday. When growing up in a small town that is agriculture based most people identify with a handful of industries that influence their work or they work directly with. Some industries are crop related, and others are animal related. The one that my mother got me involved with is the horse industry and I found that it was my niche. There are handfuls of advantages of growing up in the horse industry and there are misconceptions people have about it, overall my personal experiences have helped form a sense of positive identity of myself.
Through the elements and principles of design, The Horse Fair will be analyzed, interpreted, and judged. This painting was begun in 1853 and finished in 1855 with oil on canvas. The painting is huge, with a whopping 8ft tall and 16ft wide. It was first exhibited at the Paris Salon, but now resides in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The only means by which one could attain complete happiness is to avoid living in constant expectation of it. It’s the expectation that causes our unhappiness and consequent bitterness about life. [Mohammed Naseehu Ali] Expectations aren’t often chosen, yet they’re assigned to each, and every person; whether, they’re from parents, teachers or even friends. All these people want the best for us, but sometimes in the process they can become overbearing and irksome. In D.H Lawrence's tragic short story The Rocking Horse Winner it’s prevalent that the writing is strongly influenced by the writer's outlook on societal issues, and how the writer may be resentful of expectations placed in his own life.
Imagine riding a horse and your saddle slowly starts to slide one way and before you know it, you are suddenly upside-down and in a dangerous situation. You then look to your left and see your friend is struggling to stay on their horse because something has gotten wedged their horse’s belly and the back cinch causing the horse to buck. This may sound unrealistic, but believe it or not, it happens. Situations like these are easily avoidable if you follow a few simple guidelines when it comes to prepping your horse to be ridden. Whether you are going for a trail ride in the mountains, a ride down the gravel road, or headed to the practice arena, you should always make sure your horse is comfortable and protected.
Horses are a majestic creature that have been used since the dawn of time developing from wild animals, to farm workers, to warriors on the battlefield, to carriage pullers, show horses, and pets. Horses have had many opportunities and the ability to work alongside people playing a vital role in many different tasks they have been assigned to. Horses are willing, courageous, and hardy workers as they allow humans to ride and work with them. Though, have you ever seen a horse do something unnatural and have you ever thought that a human may tweak a horse’s natural ability to obtain a new skill that catches the human eye? Well I have been riding and showing horses for many years now
D. H. Lawrence creates a magical and vivid story that is portrayed with many elements of fantasy with his style of writing. The story of “The Rocking-Horse Winner” is able to show how it contains elements that allow it transcend the bounds of known reality. Lawrence is able to show this giving Paul the power of luck and seeing into the future by knowing which horse will win each race. Lawrence first illustrates the power of fantasy by giving real life elements to the world and objects that often do not have a life of their own.
Horseback riding is not an activity most people think of, but it is a great escape for some people. Horseback riding is not just saddling up and riding, people have to have a passion for horses and riding. Some things to keep in mind when riding is balance and knowledge on how to keep the horse under control. People can be told how to ride, but each person will have to find a style that works for them. When riding a horse the concept of time, destination and worries do not exist.
