Horizontal milling machine
Horizontal milling is a cutting process in which rotary cutters are used to cut, bore and shape a variety of materials. There are CNC milling machine, where the rotary cutter is controlled by a computer to attain more accuracy.
In a vertical milling machine the horizontal movements of the tool are controlled by the X and Y axis, while the vertical movement is controlled by the z-axis. Here the spindle is fixed and the bed moves either horizontally or vertically. http://blog.mmi-direct.com/used-cnc-milling-machine
Whereas a horizontal milling machine will have additional axis. It is called as W and B axis. The w-axis is for the diagonal movement of the Z-axis, while the B-axis allows for the rotation of the …show more content…

Lathe machine
Lathe wheel driven with the use of a hand-wheel is not but a manual lathe machine. Here with the help of the hand wheel, various carriages are moved to its required position manually. Mostly lathes have four hand-wheels-
- Carriage hand wheel for moving the saddle.
- Cross slide hand wheel for transverse movement of the tool post.
- Compound hand wheel for moving the compound slide that can be set at an angle for taper cutting.
- Tail stock hand wheel for moving the quill forward or backward for centring. http://www.metalartspress.com/sites/default/files/article-images/Inner-Workings-of-Lathes----Pix-3.jpg
Lathe wheel driven with the help of servo motor can be seen on computer aided lathe machines i.e. CNC lathe machines. Here a servo is used as the spindle motor. The motor can be given to move in a linear or rotary motion. This allows us to control the speed and angular position of the tool.
