Science has been the backbone of my life ever since my high school days in Malaysia. Although I studied many science subjects like Physics and Biology,
I was especially fond of chemistry. My fondness of chemistry was attributed to my chemistry teacher Mr. Ang, in the eleventh grade who motivated me to explore every topic in great depth. He always gave me great advice, and I was greatly influenced by his spirit and values.
Before I applied to universities in Malaysia, I attended various seminars which gave advice to students who were applying to universities and colleges. It is here that I got the most important advice of all, "Chose a major in a field that interests you." It did not take long before I was accepted to the xxxx University, and I chose Chemical Engineering as my field of study. Unfortunately, I had to deny the offer since my family had decided to move to the United States of America.
Moving to the States has not been easy. I have not only encountered cultural differences, but a lot of difference in the educational system as well.
But my goal to major in Chemistry still remains unchanged, and my options have widened. Last year, I learned about the Center for Science Excellence in one of my Chemistry classes, but I wasn’t aware of the many advantages and rewards of being part of such a remarkable program.
As a newcomer, I have made numerous mistakes in choosing my courses and
I need a lot of good advice and guidance. The Center for Science Excellence is exactly the type of program that can fulfill these needs, and help to put me on the right track instead me personally learning from costly mistakes. CSE is center which guides many other science students. It would be very helpful to make friends with other science students with whom I can exchange knowledge, ideas, and friendship. The internships that CSE provides to its students would help me gain experience and exposure to various areas in science which interest me, and hopefully guide me to the job of my dream.
I always wanted to attend to an important college. To me, that meant that the smartest people has to be there and one that had good reputation. After research and research I understood that my life have changed since I got to the United States. As an international student my opportunities were less, since I do not qualify for financial aid. My choices were less, but i realized that that does not stop me in going to college and prepare myself to be someone in life. I do not need to be at the most important college to prove myself how worth it I am. A two-year community college would let me prepare myself for much less cost and with great opportunities. Glendale Community College a small college would be the best place for me as a student. It is a place where I can get more attention for the teachers and I could pursue my career in medicine.
...ics television advertisements. When such a significant line is blurred when do we draw it back on? Do we wait until we see the serious effects of this problem? When do we deem television addiction as serious? Advertisers want viewers to spend their hard-earned money on their brands. Therefore, they have devised elaborate commercials to lure consumers into their trap and once they have gotten their patronage, it is hard to say if they will ever let them go. So, watch out.
what I wanted to become. So after graduation I decided to explore my options at
What happens to a dream deferred?Does it dry uplike a raisin in the sun?Or fester like a sore-And then run?Does it stink like rotten meat?Or crust and sugar over- like a syrupy sweet?Maybe it just sagslike a heavy load.Or does it explode? While Langhston Hughes authors this poem, A Dream Deferred, it can easily be interpreted as Toni Morrison's description of Nel and her life of sorrow and dissatisfaction. Sula and Nel, the protagonists in Toni Morrison's Sula, are each the only daughters of mothers whose distance leaves the young girls with dreams to erase this solitude and loneliness. There is no question that Sula alleviates this aloneness with a lascivious and experimental life, "I'm going down like one of those redwoods. I sure did live in this world"(143). Nel, however, for the most part, fails terribly at realizing her dreams and experiencing a happy existence.
Gambling advertisements can be a huge issue for people who already gamble especially if they are addicted because it can act as a trigger. It can be an issue because it can affect a person’s lifestyle in a number of ways. Firstly gambling can cause money problems. A person can experience loss of money, property savings or belongings. This kind of loss can lead to the breaking of families, feelings of betrayal and anger. The stress of gambling problems can sometimes cause health problems, for both the person spending the money and their family. It is argued that gamblers will gamble no matter if there are advertisements being shown or not, however these advertisements are a constant reminder for them especially when they have to see these advertisements when they use the internet, watch television and particularly during sports programs. Problem gam...
Three Medical Doctors wrote the book, The Water We Drink: Water Quality and Its Effects on Health. Their names are Joshua I. Barzilay, M.D., Winkler G. Weinberg, M.D., and J. William Eley, M.D. In order to put the issue of drinking water quality and its effects on health into perspective, the book is divided into three parts. It first reviews the history of water, disease, and sanitation. The next section deals with health issues. At the conclusion of the book are chapters regarding bottled water and methods of purification. The intent of the book is to educate consumers.
"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop and look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, '...I can take the next thing that comes along.'...You must do the thing you think you cannot do (Eleanor Roosevelt)." Every time I read these words, I am able to see the truth in them. College to me is the next step that I must take in life. Although this next step comes with much trepidation and apprehension, it is a necessary step that I must take to forever better and prepare myself for the life that I wish to lead. State University would be one of the best institutions for this, just as the choice of high school I made four years ago, Good Counsel, was the next step for me then. During high school, I have grown and changed through not only the education I have gained, but also through the activities I participated in. I have gained a lot of strengths from my time spent in high school. Although every weakness has not been erased, the next step in life will ease their numbers even more.
In Conclusion, In conclusion, the same sex marriage should be legalized. It is human civil rights, it is encourage family’s value and increase child adoption. I felt the overwhelming pressure to settle on a career before entering college, and so I arrived
In this article “Tobacco Advertisements Encouraging Smoking” the author claims that the advertisement makes cigarettes most successful product in American history. According to the office of the Surgeon General, in1998, tobacco companies spent 6.7 billion dollars on marketing (Williams.pp.50). We see the big poster on the wall and a hero demonstrates smoke as a good behavior in the move. As we look back to 2007 campaign for the feminine Camel No.9 brand, girls’ night parties, gift bags, and print ads in fashion magazines had a significant impact on teens. Indeed, tobacco companies have a strategic advertisement for consumers to smoke (Roman pp.1). However, I believe that the tobacco companies maintaining cigarettes ads in order to play role in people life to make a decision to smoke. As I see the three main reasons to start smoking; Advertising, Friends smoke, and Family members smoke.
The very first documented beauty pageant dates clear back to Paris of Troy. He had to choose between three beauties for a wife. He chose Helen, the daughter of Zeus and Leda. If there would have been titles back then like there are today then Helen would have been named Miss World. America didn’t start holding beauty pageants until the early 1920’s. They were originally a gimmick to keep tourists in town after the summer months. This was the birth of Miss America. The contest was held each year in Atlantic City and each year the number of contestants grew. The Miss America pageant was discontinued during the great depression, as the economy took a dive for the worst. The pageant came back in 1932, but there was not much interest in it. When it was found out that a 15 year old woman won the contest, she was disqualified and stripped of her title. In the late 1930’s, in an attempt to add an intellectual aspect, the beauty pageant introduced a talent competition which was mandatory for each of the contestants. The winner would receive a scholarship for college, back then this amount totaled around $5,000. In the year 1951, the beauty pageant expanded outside the borders of the United States and included contestants from other parts of the world, hence the birth of the Miss World Pageant. Shortly thereafter, the introduction of the Miss Universe Pageant was held in Long Beach, California. Then came the era of media, scholarships, and enhanced beauty for the contestants. The women were graded on the size of their hips, breasts, and waist. The women held themselves to these same guidelines. In 1961, the first child beauty pageant was held in New Jersey in an attempt to bring customers to the area. It was never thought that this w...

This paper is about water purification. Water that is safe to drink is called potable water. Our freshwater is definitely not evenly put out throughout the world (www.science.howstuffworks.com). More than half of the world’s water supply is contained in just nine different countries: United States, Colombia, Canada, Brazil, the Democratic Republic of Congo, China, India, Russia, and Indonesia (science.howstuffworks.com). The Middle Eastern countries use the least amount of water per person because there are very few natural and reliable sources of fresh and clean water. Right now more than a billion people (about 17% of the world’s population) don’t have access to clean water (www.science.howstuffworks.com).
In today’s society, advertisements saturate our lives. In our day to day lives we find ourselves sorting through many advertising images and messages. However we overlook the moral impact that advertisements have on individuals in society, effecting the desires and inclinations of individuals. Through major markets such as tobacco and alcohol, their marketing impacts both moral ideas and moral behavior in society. The changes in society would showcase the powerful force that advertising has on society, which radically affects the very way we think, the concepts we have and the association we make.
Marriage is the most powerful way for couples to show their love. However, it will be unfair for someone to try and negate the rights of married couples. Therefore, all types of marriages including gay marriages should be legalized since couples deserve equal rights and freedom. Opponents of gay marriage point out that it is against God’s laws, but they forget that the same Bible also promotes equality regardless of gender, race and religion. Moreover, if marriage is all about love, then those in love and committed to one another should be allowed to the freedom to marry regardless of their gender and age. Studies have revealed that heterosexual marriages are failing at a very at the very alarming rate. Based on this knowledge, gay marriages must, therefore, be legalized.
