Honesty becomes what helps us get through life or what ends up destroying us. With this in mind, it is essential to use honesty as the approach for every situation. Although many people prefer to lie their way through success, it is best to do so while being honest since in the end, the truth will eventually come out which could bring many consequences. This being said, honesty prevents you from encountering these undesirable outcomes, including losing those closest to you. To illustrate, in the television series, Glee, Mr. Will Schuster, the high school glee club director, spends a lot of time with his students, trying to get them to win competitions, such as Regionals and Nationals, by rehearsing in class and many hours after school, making
Plato once said: “Honesty is for the most part less profitable than dishonesty.” People are taught from a very young age never to lie or keep secrets. It would be easy for anyone to stand behind the argument: “Honesty is the best policy,” but in times of personal anguish, that decree is quickly disdained. What this argument fails to consider is that keeping a secret or lying is the justifiable in times of crisis.
Are everyday rituals, such as, facades reflected as to being a lie? Simply preparing for a meeting or interview does not come off as lying, although another type of façade such as when someone asks, “Are you okay,” after a death of someone close to you, in reality it is a form of a lie, because you are not being honest. In Stephanie Erricsson’s article “The Ways We Lie,” she discusses many different types of lying, that most wouldn’t even consider. Ericsson claimed, “But façades can be destructive because they are used to seduce others into an illusion” (409). Depending how a façade is used, the outcome can be beneficial or damaging. There are facades that are used to cover up one’s true feelings, in order to protect an individual and then there is a type in which one puts on a mask to cover up how awful of a person they are. Charity, a former friend, deceived me with the qualities of everything she was not, my mom is a great example of when it comes to hiding when she is saddened. In this article “The Ways We Lie,” Stephanie Ericsson has a great point of view on the destructiveness of facades, although, it can very well be used in a good way just as much as in a bad way, in fact, like my protective mother, using facades for mine and my sisters own good and then a conniving friend using facades in
An abundant amount of people would say they try to contain honesty, however, we are all liars, no matter how hard we try. Because of the pressure from society, we all are forced to make ourselves look and feel satisfactory with the rest of society. This is not just considering students in a school setting, but also parents and those at home. My cousin
Through out history people have been influenced by what they want to hear and the way a current trend is happening. The evolution of mankind has drifted towards a different society than what we where born to sustain. We are emotionally driven human beings that want to feel accepted by the rules of society. Sometimes an individual can confuse actions or emotions towards trying to fulfill the standards society has imposed. I have analyzed two articles that incorporate how a society reacts towards integrity as well as honesty and the belief that an individual in order to be a part of society one must comply with the standards that are set. As I began to interpret what Stephen L. Carter explained in “The Insufficiency of Honesty” I examined they
Honesty requires someone with the best intention to tell the truth and to avoid communicating in a way that is deceiving. Intent has a vested relationship between truthfulness and truth. Someone can be truthful and ethical even if what they say is not actually truthful. Being incorrect in communication is not being an actual liar. Something told as the result of a mistake is not an act of dishonesty. Honest mistakes can still affect trust between communicators due to the extent of reliability and carefulness, but a person who makes a mistake is not considered a liar.
Honesty proves one’s trustworthiness and dependability in a friendship. I really valued honesty in my friendship with a girl named Libby. Libby and I became friends with another girl named
Everyone knows that honesty is the best policy, but sometimes the truth does hurt. Sometimes we think that we are keeping a friend from getting hurt, but with all lies, there is never just one. Before you know it, you are right in the middle of a big web of lies that you, yourself created. A great example is when Applejack (element of honesty) discovered that this so called “wonder tonic” that could cure any ailment, was a scam. Her grandmother
In the TV show “The Simpsons” there is one episode where Homer one of the main characters, finds a way of mooching cable. Such a behavior is not approved by Lissa his daughter who thinks he might go to hell for what he is doing. One of Home’s arguments when Lissa questions his behavior is: “Lissa everyone does it”. Later on, Homer is not only mooching cable, but he also is stealing work’s tools. Lying and cheating seems to be attached to the core of humans.
Without honesty, a person breaks down. It might take time but at the end, they fail. Being an honest person means someone who does not lie, trustable, always think everything in positive ways, always focused on good deeds for a better future. Honesty is a noble virtue that everyone appreciates. No one likes an dishonest person. No one trusts them and they feel lonely. It is valued on many ethnic and religious cultures too. Being an honest person would help me reach my goal. I want people to like me for me and for my honesty. In order to be successful in life, its is important to follow the light of honesty. I have always been and honest and i have personally experienced that, no one accuses me of me anything. I have had problems before but people who know me, know it I am honest and I always want to be like that if I want to be a successful person. I don't want to choose dishonesty for profit and later suffer for it. Everyone respects an honest man and respect is what I
I do not know of anyone who wants to be known as Pinocchio, the wooden boy who lies and in a result, makes his nose grow bigger. As an old proverb says, honesty is the best policy. I agree with being honest at all times. First, telling the truth to me, is always the right thing. When I catch someone in a lie, I just think to myself, what has come up of this world? A person’s truths and lies prove who that person is, and what that person is capable of. Second, people can earn a great deal of respect and trust from telling the truth. Now, people trust their “gut feeling”, but someone’s “gut feeling” should always be truthful. Respect is something that is earned, and at sometimes, given to people who do the things that they are supposed to do for themselves and for others. Last, most people were taught to tell the truth at a very young age. A truth is
Beginning your career with honesty and integrity makes for a great team building skill and can help in create great relationships with your superiors and co workers. I think that honesty and integrity should be demanded in all aspects of life. It helps build character and a respectful personality. When we should that we have
As you can see, the definition of honesty and integrity go hand in hand. Just as Spencer Johnson tells us, “Integrity is telling myself the truth. And honesty is telling the truth to other people.” Without honesty, there is absolutely no integrity. In the past few years, many major corporations conducted tests to determine how much of the world’s population was considered, “honest.”
I agree with the statement "honesty is the best policy". People will be able to trust people who are honest, liars will have rumors spread around about them, and it's just plain easier to tell the truth. Nobody likes people who lie all the time and won't know whether to trust them or not. People get annoyed by people who lie a lot.
To be honest is to be believed in to create a bond that will grow and prosper. To be dishonest is to be led astray to harm others to where they might get in trouble, injured, or even worse death and all bonds, present or future, will be no longer. Honesty is a means to build one’s trust. In the end, honesty can help a person go a long way, while dishonesty will lead to nowhere as stated by some of the Proverbs.
Honesty is a characteristic that everyone should possess. However, being honest is a difficult task for many people. Living honestly means allowing a person’s true self to be exposed to others. Honesty is considered owning up to one’s wrongdoings and not lying, cheating, or stealing. Being honest is a trait that many people believe is obsolete. Even though every person interprets honesty differently, it all stems back to telling the truth. Being honest allows a person to earn respect from their peers. Honesty is allowing oneself to be completely exposed by being truthful.
