As a grade 9 student who attends Hillcrest School, i’ve noticed the number of students complaining about overwhelming amounts of homework they receive on a daily basis. I write to you in hopes to create a homework policy that most of the students that attend the school recognize as beneficial not only for them, but also for the parents and teachers. The homework policy comes will follow specific guidelines created so it's flexible for all students, grade one through grade 12.
I’ve spoken to my peers and other students from different grades and asked them to fill out a google forms survey to figure out their opinion on having consistent homework. 74 out of 82 students believe that having a homework policy is not only beneficial to the students,
Homework stems from the learning environment that students are exposed to in school. The students’ learning environment can be a place where the students may learn to be independent, contain a caring nature, contribute for the betterment of their fellow students, or become creative. In order to have a successful learning environment, it is essential to have management within the classroom to allow the students to follow rules, which enhances the ability to learn in the classroom (Froyen & Iverson, 1999). A classroom does not assign erroneous homework or assessments. Each assignment has a purpose to further the growth of students.
After studying the issue of homework, and the teacher’s influence upon it, I’ve come to realize homework may be overused in today’s educational system. I feel teachers are depending too much on outside education and not enough on in-class learning. Also, I believe the United States Government needs to develop a "homework standard". Educators in general need to come together and encourage students to learn in the classroom, and spend less time out of school doing countless hours of busy work. Teachers must look at the best interests of the students and base learning on communication in the classroom.
In order to promote participation in weekly homework, it is beneficial to reevaluate the current homework implementation. Transitioning homework into a more project based experience that is a collaborative experience for both student and their families will make homework more enjoyable and motivating. Questions considered will include:

Homework may be beneficial to academic success, but must have meaning to the student, must be measurable by the teacher, and must be manageable by both.
“Clearly the debates about homework, begun well over a hundred years ago, are still with us today” (Kralovec, 2007). Some people feel that homework is beneficial to students and their education, and then others feel that the homework being assigned is too much. However, like many parents, I watch the homework coming home and it often seems that it’s more like busy work than anything.
I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write.
