Homer's Ares: The Greek God Of War

The God of War, raw violence, and fierce are things that made up Ares. He is one of the Twelve Olympian gods and the son of Zeus and Hera. Homer described him as a violent, cruel, and cared for almost nothing else. Nothing pleased Ares better than a battle between two great armies. He likes to spectate soldiers driving furiously toward each other fighting to their deaths. He was such an enormous fellow that it was said that his body covered seven acres as he lay there on the ground.
Ares was the son of Zeus and Hera. Zeus ruled as King of the Gods and his wife Hera is the Queen of the Gods. He was born an immaculate conception. Hera took a magical herb that allowed her to have a child immaculately, this child was Ares. Ares went through …show more content…

He fought just on instinct and his own rage and personal fury he had, and fought primarily for the sake of fighting. However, on the opposite spectrum was Athena the Goddess of Wisdom and Warfare. Her warfare was the tactical warfare that calculated each move carefully with strategic strikes in order to get the job done. (the god and goddess 1) I his personal life, he was associated with Aphrodite at a young age. According to Homer, the two were married but Aphrodite was already married to Hepheastus. To show affection with Aphrodite, he fought on the side of the Trojans against the Greeks. This choice did not work out for Ares and lost the Trojan War.
Ares was symbolize for many things. Many would say the main symbol of Ares was the spear. There are several adjectives that corrisponds with the spear and Ares. Ares loved war more than anything else. He also is natural a very violent person. In which case the spear is a very dangerous weapon. Another common symbol for Ares is a dog.
