My name is Mylette Charles I currently work at PATH ( People Assisting the Homeless) located in Los Angeles, California. The goal of this agency is to end homelessness for the community. We provide job assistance, counseling, substance abuse treatment and other services such as providing temporary and permanent housing for those in need. I have a masters in social work and have been licensed for the past 5 years. My client, Chloe age 22 was referred to me by herself. She is looking to get her life together and get help. Assessment is using the tools social workers learned to evaluate the needs of a client. I chose to do the assessment with Chloe because my job is to figure out peoples problems and do my past to help them solve it and be an …show more content…
My job would be to first find an available spot open for her in our agencies housing. The goal is to get her into temporary housing and if not spots are available I will call around to local shelters to make sure she has a place to stay. Then I will give her info where she is eligible to get groceries and free dinner. I will be her source of her transportation, taking her to and from her houses and places she will need to go. She will be put in a job skills program to teach her the basics and I will help refer her to places where she can work and take her to drop off applications. While this is going on I will meet with her throughout the process to answer any questions she may have and continue to be an advocate. We will together work on her strengths to help her self- esteem and help to deal with the emotions she is feeling with everything that is going on. I will continue to make sure to support her decisions to got to musical school and let her know of her options. If she is up for it I would like her to be in counseling/ therapy to talk about how living on the streets and how her previous job left her feeling. Since there is no family or friends to help support during this time I think it'll be best to join a support group among other young homeless transgenders so she can share her thoughts and feeling so she feels and knows she is not alone. To reach the final goal she will be in a program that teaches her about the options on how to get enrolled and how to pay for college. One last action to take would be in the community. Chloe often mentions about the other thousands of transgenders so the goal would be to try and get more of them involved and reaching out. So the plan would be to have a open support group with those I n similar
I have not worked with clients in a formal counseling setting. However, I know the importance of clients taking assessments to gain a better understanding. For example, if the client is having difficulty selecting a career, I would have the client take a career assessment to determine client strengths. Then, the client can use the evaluation to research jobs that would allow the client to use their strengths.
As you’ve probably noticed, I have a very dry sense of humor and yesterday it was extra dry for some mysterious reason ;-)
The homeless population is growing in America. There are more and more Americans living in boxes, sleeping on park benches and panhandling on the streets each day. These people tend to make us, the non-homeless, feel uncomfortable and unsafe. They are also placing increasing stress on the nation's economy. In short, the homeless are a burden on the rest of society. There needs to be action taken against them. "I shall now humbly propose my own thoughts, which I hope will not be liable to the least objection (Swift.)" I propose that all of the homeless be relocated to foreign third world countries. They can then be hired in American factories producing shoes, automobiles and other various goods at less than one dollar per hour.
“3.5 million people will experience homelessness in a given year,”(Los Angeles Homeless Services). This shocking number is one of the sad truths in today’s society. Homelessness is caused by a wide range of things including financial issues. The life of a homeless person is hard and comes with set-backs and the constant need to overcome them. Homeless people go through many challenges in surviving without a home. They can suffer from health issues, hunger, and poor emotional well-being.
People without a regular dwelling can be susceptible to so many infectious disease. TB in the homeless population is a public health concern.
The sample generalist assessment used focuses on the client’s: living skills; health and disability; educationemployment; legal issues; housing; significant relationships; understanding of the issue; demographics; and crisis management (National Council of Social Service, 2006). The social worker has the opportunity to delve further into those areas if deemed necessary by their agency (National Council of Social Services, 2006). The competency-based assessment is a complex assessment tool developed for use in mental health settings. Gray and Zide (2007) wrote the book to foster and build on the human focus of social workers and to provide a counterbalance to the deficit focused Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (DSM) when working in mental health settings. Several theoretical frameworks are evident in the competency-based assessment and clearly articulated in the provided excerpt from Gray and Zide (2007).
‘Homelessness’ is when an individual or family cannot afford permanent housing. Homelessness is a common problem in human history. There are many reasons why people reached the state of homelessness such as; physical, economic, social and political. These problems continue to interfere with people’s lives. In the early stages of the American colonial settlement, homelessness became a huge problem in America. Most recently homelessness has been caused by the high cost of housing, alcoholism and drug addictions, mental health issues, joblessness and military veterans coming home. Many people who have jobs here in America still cannot afford permanent housing because the minimum wage which is $7.25 is not enough money to make a good living. The people who gets pay $7.25 an hour struggles because by the time they’re done paying all their bills they have very little to buy groceries, so most of the times people buy food for them and their family which means eventually they’re going to owe a lot of money for rent, which is going to lead to eviction. The United States needs a comprehensive plan to end homelessness in the richest country in the world once and for all.

The police face many different issues while out on patrol every day. One issue is that of the homeless. In many cities, homelessness has been criminalized, but we, as a society, have to question if this is the right thing to do. Should people who have the misfortune of being homeless be punished further?
Homelessness is a major issue in our world today. There is an abundant amount of people who live on the street and barely have anything they can call their own. These people probably lived great lives at some point, they probably never thought of the concept of becoming homeless until it happened. Luckily there is help being brought to them from different kinds of sources in order to help get them back on the road to a happy and fulfilled life. Homelessness among the aging population is a significant problem in the United States. Couple of days ago I saw a homeless people that seemed to be ranging from all ages. Homeless people I thought were mostly people who had lost their job as a result couldn’t pay for their living conditions such as a house and or apartment. After looking at this teenage boy has made me wonder what caused each homeless person that they have to ask for money. As I grew up, I got a better understanding of why these people were hand paddling for a living. I learned that most of these people had lost their jobs and or had bad money managing skills. Homeless people are everywhere around the world no matter the country and state. Near a gas station in Seattle I noticed a teenager who looked as if he was a senior in high school. He looked as if he was only the streets for a couple of day to a maximum of two weeks. Most homeless people I see are mostly lived like that for weeks and month. Also have that certain smell I can never forget.
Moreover, an assessment is a more in-depth line of questioning of the client that goes in to the client’s background such as childhood experiences, social life and psychological health; the assessment can also go into a series of testing. Additionally, the assessment is also used to determine a diagnosis of the client (Substance Abuse Counselor, n.d.). Many times clients with substance abuse problems do have psychological issues.
Homelessness is a major social problem affecting children, families, babies, veterans and the elderly.
