Recommended: Pursuading people to help homeless
In April 2017, an estimated amount of 3.5 million people, 2 million being children in America were thought to be homeless or would become homeless. The three most effective ways to help the homeless are volunteer, acknowledge & engage, and pray. With these simple steps we could help homeless people not only in our community but all over the world get back on the right track. Just a simple hello, smile or acknowledgement could make their week. Be kinder and more compassionate for the people who go without homes, and do not have warm water to take a shower or even food to eat. Volunteering to help the homeless is not only genuinely kind but it is also extremely easy to do. Two hours out of the day volunteering could make this world a better place for the homeless. There are different ways to volunteer when it comes to the homeless. Certain organizations have a different look on what volunteering means. For some that is building houses for the homeless, food banks, job hiring, volunteering at your local church, or clothing donation …show more content…
After listening to a homeless person’s story as to why they are homeless, how long they’ve been without a home, food, or water, prayer will help them believe that there is a hope. Maybe a prayer will make a homeless person feel as if at least one person cares. Even if prayer is not a regular thing for the more fortunate, it would make a difference if they prayed for all the homeless people they come across. Whether they pray without or without them. According to the Bowery Missionary Team (2017) in the article, “Tips On Helping The Homeless,” “You can pray by yourself, or with friends and family. Pray that their physical needs are met. But also pray for their emotional and spiritual needs. Pray that they find the motivation to join a recovery program and seek for the help they need” (para. 7). Just a simple prayer could help make the world a better place for the
While they may not be somebody you immediately know, they are still humans that deserve respect and compassion from others. The homeless problem present in Anaheim is something that simply can not be ignored any longer and demands the attention of the higher ups. Firstly, a proper branch of our main city government should be allocated to the cause. This branch will focus on all homeless related incidents and stirrups in the community with certain agents and correspondents to help sort out dangerous situations. They with have a moderate budget at their disposal, which can be raised mainly through donations and fundraisers, but hopefully with some generous donations from our esteemed members of Anaheim. The budget provided to the branch can be used whenever seen fit to benefit the homeless the most such as different types of food drives or medical resources. These will be open to the homeless 24/7 because emergency has no dedicated time and can strike at any moment. Once a project like this is completed we believe more advertisement displaying all the different forms of aid available to the homeless can be extremely useful as many simply do not know where and how to find theses types of help. These can range from pamphlets to billboard placements or different types
Lastly, the strategy encourages people to extend their concern and support to homeless individuals by making contributions to help them meet their daily basic needs. People can contribute a variety of items, including clothing, household goods, books, and immaterial items, such as job opportunities and trainings (Miller, Hess, & Orthmann, 2011). This is important in the sense that it brings comfort to homeless persons.
Society has helped the homeless by donating clothes, sending food, and making shelters for them. Even schools have fundraisers for the homeless people in their local area. One example is the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness, the website shows statistics about hunger, poverty and homelessness. It also shows how we can step up and help the homeless. “Just in Minnesota alone there are hundreds of shelters for the homeless.”
.... The homeless community is a growing problem that only worsens with time. If we don’t make an effort now, to help the most vulnerable among us, then we are only contributing to this problem. With our unsure economy, nothing is guaranteed, so just be considerate for others who are in an inferior situation, because who knows when you might need a hand.
As a result, homelessness can be decrease by educating the public about the problem, help the homeless by teaching them financial management skill and build more houses that is affordable, as homeless are human just like us. We should help them to make sure that they can overcome these obstacles and be able to make changes in their life by walking away from
“3.5 million people will experience homelessness in a given year,”(Los Angeles Homeless Services). This shocking number is one of the sad truths in today’s society. Homelessness is caused by a wide range of things including financial issues. The life of a homeless person is hard and comes with set-backs and the constant need to overcome them. Homeless people go through many challenges in surviving without a home. They can suffer from health issues, hunger, and poor emotional well-being.
While Soup Kitchens are a way to feed the poor or homeless, it not a program that effectively helps the homeless onto their feet, it simply keeps them fed. (www.merriam-webster.com) These do help the unsheltered homeless population though. While there are shelters, not everyone has access to them or some even chose not to go. In the city of Los Angeles, there are about 27,000 homeless people who are unsheltered, that’s 1 in 378. There are various factors that cause homelessness; these include a decline in public assistance, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, job loss, divorce, low wages, poverty, severe depression, physical disabilities or mental illnesses. From the year 2011 to 2012, the number of homeless people skyrocketed. In New York City alone, there are more homeless people in the year 2014 than there were in the recession of the 1980s. When a homeless person tries to talk to a person the largest response that I have seen is ignored. I have witnessed homeless going into fast food establishments and treated very badly. People do not want to sit by or near them. People do not want to see that they exist. But there are those people that want to help. “During National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, student and community groups organize local events designed to educate the public, promote community service, and build campus and community coalitions to end poverty” (National Student, 2012). They see the homeless and do not ignore but embrace that they need

...ome, or they lost their employment, or they fell ill, perhaps a combination of all three that led to a life of homelessness. In the state the world is in today, it is necessary that people should not be quick to judge, but quick to lend a helping hand. The government and volunteer agencies do a lot to help but not all are so fortunate. In one way or another everyone is struggling financially, and if it is not resolved soon, more people than ever might be heading down the path of homelessness. In the meantime it is indispensable to support charities in donations or volunteer some time for the shelters dedicated to those without a home. People should place themselves in the position of a homeless, and see how appreciative one would be for shelter, warm covers and a hot meal in a time of need. For in the long run, the words of the many must echo the words of the few.
Mark is just one of the estimated 1.2 -2 million people who experience homelessness each year, about 760,000 people are homeless each night (Homeless Youth). When we looked at these figures, it made us stop and think of how fortunate we are to have a home, clothing, food, and little things that many of us take for granted. Like Mark, many homeless people have nothing to look forward to. They don't know where they are going to sleep that night or what they are going to eat next. Many homeless people have no hope.
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
Lastly, let’s talk about ways we can fight homelessness. III. Doing our part to help the homeless will lower the number of homeless people around us. Volunteering plays a huge role in helping the
People should help the homeless by aiding them with healthcare, housing, and childcare. Homelessness is not a new trend and is growing more everyday. Homeless people should not be different from anyone else when it comes to getting a helping hand.
A common misconception about volunteering is that it only helps the cause. Often times that aspect is the only part that is highlighted when the topic of donating time comes up. There is a different side of volunteering though. Many volunteers donate their time to help better the community they live in and the people that live in it. When they choose to do this they not only help others but they are also helping better themselves. Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities.
