We can achive whatever we put our hearts to. Mr.gardner was a very hard worker and did not quit when it got difficult even though he wanted to. Ever since he was a child he worked hard and was top of his class. Mr. Gardner found out about a internship, and there would be a big test at the end and if he passed he could be the next stock broker. There were alot of people in the internship and his chances at being the next stock broker were very slim, but that did not stop him. He worked very hard and was always studying. Him and his son did not even have a place to live, so they had to sleep in a homeless shelter. The homeless shelter opened at 5 so right after the internship he would go pick up his son and run to the homeless shelter and hope
One theme the story leaves us is that always chase your dreams no matter how hard it is and if you fail just stand up and try again.
Although The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act is a program that guarantees education for the homeless youth population, many homeless do not receive the proper services they need because they are not aware of available resources (Heinze & Jozefowicz-Simbeni, 2009). Many homeless youths do not have a safe place to stay during the night or do not have any family or friends to rely on for support. In addition, approximately 7% of youth members in the United States are left without a home because of high dependence on an addictive substance or because they have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder (Heinze & Jozefowicz-Simbeni, 2009). Services that could provide shelter for the youth are often underused. Research in homeless youth
Family, education and a person’s opportunities are significant elements that collectively define an individual, as demonstrated by both Wes Moore’s. Depending on the opportunities offered to you and whether you decide to take advantage of them through hard work and persistence will result in your success or failure in the end. Wes Moore explains “The chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The tragedy is that my story could have been his” goes to show that certain factors affect how you will be as an adult regardless of similar or differentiating backgrounds. (Moore xi).
In conclusion, I know everyone would love to have it all and just wished it were this perfect plan or blueprint to success. Who wouldn’t, but its not. You can make it out but it’s going to be easy, some maybe easier than others but just stay focused and would get there. I side with Dalton’s point of view 100 percent although Horatio’s view would be nice and it does indeed sound great and grasp your attention. Even though people don’t have equal opportunity still work hard, stay consistent in doing so, and never give up.
Despite how impossible it is, every person tries to achieve his or her dream so they can be happy or successful. The American Dream is being more powerful or better than anyone was before. In his stories Fitzgerald argues that this “American Dream” cannot be reached. No matter what it is, be it topping the social ladder, or getting the girl, or just being satisfied with one’s life, it just cannot be reached. There is always something stopping one from achieving one’s dream. Whether it is disadvantages or limitations sprung from social status, or other uncontrollable barriers blocking the dream, it is not something that can ever truly be enjoyed.
Throughout time, man has watched many successful people reach the apex in their career fields. Men like President Lincoln, President Kennedy, and Steve Jobs positively influence many and provide examples of success on a large scale. But many people do not realize that Lincoln, Kennedy, and Jobs all have one thing in common. All three men parents who did not see academic success as the most important thing in the lives of their children. But even without having academic superiority forced upon them, all three men became some of the most well-known and admired men in American culture. Their life stories prove that hard work and determination, not the heavy hand of an overbearing parent, provide them with legacies of charm and the ability to change the world.
Effectively, success does not just happen. It is made to happen, especially through chasing personal dreams and aspirations. It is also made to happen when we consciously pursue our purposes in life, particularly guided by our own inborn abilities. We should never be discouraged by our heritage or cultural backgrounds. We should not even be worried about lack of opportunities. Pursuing our passion will certainly lead us into exploiting our full potential, as we contribute to the improvement of the welfare of humanity. Alongside, we will get what we rightly deserve – invaluable rewards.
From a pool of twenty interns he was the only one picked to join the the firm, Dean Witter. All his hard work, and commitment had payed off. No matter the problems he went through, Gardner got up every time and found a way to get things done. He knew that the only way for him to get him and his son out of poverty, was if he never gave up on his dream. After Gardner began his career as a stockbroker he found the firm Garner Rich in 1987, and in 2006 he made a multi-million dollar deal from this firm. This movie is very meaningful to me, as it showed me that no matter what problems you face to never give up on your dreams. As you may have noticed the word happiness is misspelled in the title, that is no coincidence. The meaning to this is to demonstrate that it doesn 't matter how the word is shown if you truly have happiness it won’t matter how its spelled. I was taught in this movie the tough ways of life, and saw that when life get tough you don’t quite, instead you use that as motivation to work even harder, as Chris Gardner did. This movie showed me that many of us have it easy compared to Gardner, and shall not take that for granted. As Gardner establishes in the movie, we all have the capability to do great in life, but it won’t come easy as it will take time and
Those who are “willing to fail as often as necessary along the way” (Zinsser, pg 83), are the ones who seem to be willing to work for what they want, what they dream and strive for no matter how long it takes. And, another thing he said that stuck out was that “Who is to say, then, if there is any right path to the top” Zinsser is explaining that the Dream is to be able to work hard, but there is more than one way to success, more than one way to be on top and achieve what you believe in. The American Dream is one of success, but without failure a person cannot learn to be successful and achieve what they strive for, what they dream for. Our standards for the American dream have changed, things that were a luxury before are now part of the American Dream. The dream used to be a place to live, some land, and be financially independent, now the dream consists of material things, we are now a consumer
Imagine working really hard and getting no where. This isn’t a very uncommon feeling. Working hard alone doesn't make someone successful. In fact, there is a long road to success for most people. For example, many factory workers spend years upon years working hard for a company, yet never get a promotion. On the other hand, some factory workers work for a couple years and they move up in the company. The difference between the two isn't hard work, it's something different. Anyone can master a certain skill, whether it be related to a job, ...
...yed an aspiration to transcend his existence. Furthermore, Robert has had to apply his volition to reach the standard of living he is used to now. Every individual action, from choosing to work hard in school to working hard in his chosen profession, is in accord with his will to continue to achieve "greater heights." Robert has values; he believes in hard work, for example, so he may afford the means to get off the ground-literally. He is a thinking, feeling and growing human being with a spirit.
In the conclusion, we have every reason to pursue excellence because it is not for limited persons. Anyone can pursue excellence. The pursuit of excellence is the best way to live because we have every mean to do excellence. For instance, we have limited time, so don’t waste it in living someone else’s life. “Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice, and most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”- Steve Jobs

“We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort” (Owens). Without any determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort dreams will not turn into reality. People should look forward and push for that reality. Anyone can say they will fulfill their dream, but it takes someone with dedication, determination and effort to accomplish that dream. Effort is the key to success. Effort is like the sugar and spice to everything nice. Without any push of effort for the dream to become reality dedication, determination and self-discipline don’t take place. The dream drives people to accomplish the unexpected.
