Achilles and Hitler existed centuries apart at opposite ends of the universe, them being similar in their life and ideas are a canny and astonishing idea. Achilles and Hitler have an unusual amount of qualities that are alike, with very slight variations. These two people or “gods” as some perceived them, were very pivotal people during their time on Earth. They had immense impacts on the world with the decisions they made in their lifetime. Achilles was a Demigod in the movie Troy; this means he was two-thirds god and one-third human. Achilles was the descendant of Peleus, the mortal king of the Myrmidons – who according to legend were extraordinarily fearless and skilled soldiers (History). Achilles was an immortal soldier of Greece with
his only vulnerable part of body was his heel. Hitler on the other hand was just a mortal human being who governed the Germany army. Hitler had a very distressed childhood with his father not supporting the fine arts and other things in which Hitler was fascinated. When he got older he began an interest in German Nationalism and in nineteen thirty four until nineteen forty five he took over the promotion of Dictator and leader of the Nazi Party. Hatred for his father continued up until finally he became psychotic. Achilles and Hitler have countless similarities in the way they were during their time of great authority. Hitler was the leader of the German Army, while Achilles was the best warrior in the Greek Army and seen as the leader. Both men cared about ensuring their name to be remembered in history for all of eternity. These individuals both sensed when their time of death was near. Hitler when he knew his time was soon to be cut to an end; is purported to have murdered himself. Achilles did the same thing but in an extraordinary manner. The warrior Achilles knew death was approaching when he chose to journey to Troy, but he went anyway, then was shot in the Achilles tendon and died. These worshipped men both died in an attempt to gain control, and continue towards power. Although these warriors have a high percentage of things in common they have very few differences. Hitler grew up in poverty. He had to work extremely hard to achieve the goals he had set for himself. However, Achilles on the other hand was born into a very wealthy family with an immortal mother and a very powerful father. Hitler was trying to get his name remembered while also taking over the world, Achilles only wanted his name remembered. These key soldiers played an enormous role in helping change the world into what it has become in the present day. Both were extremely powerful in the battlefield as well as in the community that they lived in. Achilles and Hitler both achieved their ultimate goal and will be memorialized forever.
In the introduction of the Essential Illiad given by Sheila Murnaghan, Achilles is labeled as “the greatest of the Greek heroes”. In classic mythology a hero is a person of great strength and courage celebrated for bold exploits and is often the offspring of a mortal and a god. Achilles was the greatest fighter among the Greeks or Trojans and feared no man in battle. He was also the offspring of a mortal and a god so by classic mythology definition, Achilles was indeed a hero. A hero is defined by the present day Websters Dictionary as: “one who inspires through manners and actions; an individual who leads through personal example and accomplishments requiring bravery, skill, determination, and other admirable qualities.” Achilles, in no manner, fits this definition. By contemporary standards, he is instead a pathetic villain. Aside from being a kidnapper, rapist and murderer, Achilles proves to be emotionally weak, selfish, and malicious. Many times throughout the Illiad, Achilles is also referred to as “godlike”. The gods of Greek mythology were subject to the same emotions and character flaws as humans, and though privileged to some foresight, the gods had similar mental capacities as humans. What really set the gods apart were their powers (controlling the elements, changing their appearance, etc.), great strength, and immortality. Because of his great strength and apparent invincibility, it is easy to see why Achilles would...
Politics. Politics control this world, and sometimes for the worst. Politicians can be deceiving, and lie right to you, with no signs of remorse. They can be the worst type of human being, manipulating you for their own cause. They can be evil. In America, the next presidential election is approaching, and we have many of these politicians trying to become our next president. Although there are many, I 'm going to concentrate on one. Donald Trump. He is a corrupt politician, and a cancer to our society. This man is so malevolent, he is drawing comparisons to one of the most barbarous men of all time, Adolf Hitler. These men are eerily similar, and I am uneasy knowing that someone that could be our next president is showing similarities to a mass murderer. These are not erroneous claims. Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler are similar because of their rhetorical abilities, hating of
hroughout the Iliad Achilles shows how the ego of a Kardashian is being portrayed and the emotional maturity of an eight-year-old because of the certain adult qualities he lacks, for example: he does not work well with others, he lacks the concept of forgiveness, he is selfish, thinks highly of his self without regard to others, being rude and unkind, aggressiveness when talking to others, and having too much pride and not thinking about the consequences of his actions and how it can affect not only him but others as well. Achilles does not like to work with others he prefers to be the one in charge of everybody and he likes for everyone to do as he says. In the Iliad Agamemnon says, "This man wants to be ahead of everyone else he wants to rule everyone and give orders to everyone" (1.302-303). Achilles and Agamemnon are having an argument amongst one another because no one wants to give Achilles the honor he feels that he deserves for being the best fighter in the war and for all the blood sweat and tears he shed while defeating the Trojans "he is a mighty bulwark in this evil war" as Nestor says.
Achilles, the greatest of the Greek warriors, is portrayed as a hero in some ways but, on the other hand, performs some controversial acts in the Iliad. Throughout the entire Trojan war, Achilles spent most of his time pouting in his tent after Agamemnon kidnapped his prized maiden, Chryseis.
In the Iliad, Achilles is the main protagonist. He is a demi-god and is the son of the nymph Thetis and Peleus who was the King of the Myrmidons. He was a Greek hero of the Trojan War. He falls in love with a battle prize called Briseis. He is to portray, “as a brave, loyal, cocky, intelligent and even superhuman soldier. In Achilles ' case, the word "superhuman" is literal; he is the result of a union between a god and a mortal.”(Harvard 1)
Julius Caesar and Adolf Hitler are separated by many centuries, stories of their rise to power through military achievements and vocal persuasion are well known. Although both men had great accomplishments, one stands out between the two. Julius Caesar's military career was much more successful than Hitler's military career, which was plagued by prideful decisions and stubbornness.
There is similarities and differences between napoleon and hitler. For example the race and country represented is difference. Both share similarities alone that they both were very poor immigrants and migrated to the country they now represent. They both served in the military before they sought out to a political position. And sought to gain power and control by conquering war stricken countries. Both had attempted to conquer russia but both armies had not prepared for the harsh winters that russia gives. Hitler's army fell to the seer fact that they had not been prepared for the harsh winter that they were to face. Napoleon thought that if he was to take the country's capital he would have full control but when he and his army had arrived
There is no doubt that Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini shared many similar characteristics. They shared movements that were typical of National Socialism: they adopted a radical nationalism, militaristic hierarchies, violence, the cult of charismatic leadership, contempt for individual liberties and civil rights, an anti-democratic and anti-socialist orientation, and a refusal to socialize industries.
In his classic work "Poetics" Aristotle provided a model of the tragic hero. According to Aristotle, the tragic hero is more admirable than the average person. This results in the tragic hero being admired by the audience. For the audience to accept a tragic ending as just, it is crucial that the tragic hero be responsible for their undoing. At the same time though, they must remain admired and respected. This is achieved by the tragic hero having a fatal flaw that leads to their undoing. One of literature's examples of the tragic hero is Achilles from Homer's The Iliad. However, Achilles is different from the classic tragic hero in one major way - his story does not end tragically. Unlike the usual tragic hero, Achilles is able to change, reverse his downfall, and actually prove himself as a true hero.
Achilles is introduced into The Iliad getting into a debacle with the leader of the Greek army, Agamemnon, during the last year of the Trojan War. Achilles starts a quarrel with Agamemnon because he has demanded possession of Achilles’ woman, Briseis, in consolation for having to give up his woman, Chryseis, so that the gods will end their plague upon the Greek soldiers. Achilles does all he can to get his loved one back, but he knows that nothing will waver Agamemnon’s decision. This is when Achil...
Achilles was set up to be a hero in the making from the time we was an infant. He was born to the Myrmidons king Peleus, who was a mortal, and Thetis, a nymph. When he was just an infant Thetis wanted to make him immortal, so she immersed him into the river Styx, the river that separates the land of the living from the land of the dead. She did this to make him invincible in battle. Nevertheless, while being immersed she held him by his left heel and forgot to dip this heel in as well. Hence this part remained mortal.
Because he embodied Greek ideals, was ‘immortalized’ through his actions and glorious death, and was courageous, Achilles was an epic hero. Honor was of the utmost importance to both him and the entire Greek society, he chose to die a hero in battle, and he avenged the death of Patroclus even through mourning; Achilles is the true hero of the Iliad.
Homer makes it clear that Achilles is a man mainly driven by his hunger for glory. Achilles has all the traits of a superhuman from his strength to his incredible ability to fight on the battlefield. Even with these great abilities, it is hard for many readers to perceive him as a hero because of the way he acts. Homer takes this brief time period out of this whole ten-year war just to demonstrate how Achilles cannot control himself when he goes into a rage. In todays world Achilles would not last long as a soldier in any army because he would be court marshaled for insubordination. Achilles ye...
Hector and Achilles, two outstanding warriors on opposing sides in a conflict, show that there is more to people than what meets the eye. Although they are seen as ultimately heroic and powerful, their weaknesses and inner conflicts are unmistakable. Their differences are larger and more significant than their similarities, and to think of them as interchangeable warriors diminishes their significance. Achilles is portrayed as a fierce fighter who is harsh on the battlefield, but cares about the ones he loves very deeply, whereas Achilles is shown as a strong fighter with a more sensitive heart and compassion for all people.
In similarity, Hector and Achilles were born in royal family, and they loved their family. They both known as greatest warriors, and that is their fate to be warriors. Hector same as Achilles fight until die for their side, each person has own character made them to be remembered forever. Both of them have pride , glory, and they want everybody to respect them.
