History of the Football Team the Rams
The history of the Rams has not always been in St. Louis as most of you
already know. In 1937 a group of business executives decided they wanted a
home town football team so they built a stadium that held 3000 people in the
middle of Cleveland, Ohio. They held try outs for players who wanted to play
on the team. In the Rams debut season they went 1-10-0. I know what your
thinking, they've always stunk, but that's not true. In the Rams 67 year
history they have won 3 NFL championships. They have won 11 division
championships along with numerous wild card berths. The Rams have played
in the NFL for 67 years like I said before. They played every year except in
1943 when a shortage of players, caused by WW2, left them with no team.
All the players were off fighting in the war. On January 11, 1946 team owner
Dan Reeves decided to move the team from Cleveland to Los Angeles,
California. The Rams are a team with many, never before seen things in the
NFL. The Rams were the first football team to move west, many teams
moved west after this. In their first season in Los Angeles, the Rams post a
record of 6-4-1. The Rams were the first team to have their emblem put on
their helmets in 1948. In the 1950 season the Rams were the first team to
have both their home and away games televised on national television. In
1967 NFL commissioner and former head coach Pete Rozelle split the NFL in
to 4 divisions. The Rams win the coastal division with a record of 11-1-2, but
lose to the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs. In 1978 the NFL expands to a
16 game season and the Rams go 12-4-0, they make it to the championships
and lose to Dallas Cowboys by the score of 28-0. The Rams win their 7th
Division title in 1979 with a 9-7-0 record. They defeat the Dallas Cowboys
21-19 in the playoffs and win the conference title by beating the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers 9-0. In their first Super Bowl, the Rams take a 19-17 lead over
the Pittsburgh Steelers into the fourth quarter, but give up two touch downs
and lose by the score of 31-19. Yet another first for the NFL the Rams were
the first team to move west and back to the east. In 1995 the Rams moved
Over the course of the 1921 and 22 seasons, the Packers underwent a transformation where they replaced most of their local talent with players from big-time colleges or other pro teams. As a result, they were highly competitive on the field from the beginning and, in turn, able to establish a firm foothold within the league. “In 1927, when the NFL decided to cut its franchises almost in half and eliminate many of its smaller cities, Green Bay survived ,Then before the 1929 season, They hit the jackpot.”While the Packers were in the process of winning the 1931 championship, they also were blindsided by what could have been a Disastrous event. “In their second game against the Brooklyn Dodgers, a local fan, Willard J. Bent, injured his back when a section of bleachers at city stadium collapsed, and he fell nearly 10 feet to the ground”,he sued them for 5,000 dollars .On April 3, 1956, voters approved a referendum to fund the construction of the stadium. “It was dedicated on Sept. 29, 1957, and called new City Stadium until it was renamed Lambeau Field in 1965.””On Blackbourn’s watch, the Packers also drafted Forrest Gregg, Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Jim Taylor and Ray Nitschke, all future Pro Football Hall of Famers.”McLean lasted one season. He submitted his resignation under fire on Dec. 17, 1958, following a 1-10-1 finish, the worst in Packers
It is the reason fans fill the stadiums or turn them into ghost towns. If you were to look up success in the NFL one would probably see a picture of the Patriots. Six trips to the Super Bowl, fourteen winning records, and making the playoffs fourteen out of fifteen times within a fifteen year period are all hallmarks of their success. Comparing that to the Cowboys’ one playoff win, zero Super Bowl appearances, and five winning records within that same time span really shows which team has enjoyed more
The Rams already have a pretty stacked offensive rushing player in Todd Gurley and solid receiving corps with players like Tavon Austin and rookie Pharoh Cooper, but their quarterback position has been shaky the last couple of seasons and the three players eyeing for the position this year haven’t been too bad this preseason. Case Keenum is most likely going to start, unless he is injured or either Jared Goff or Sean Mannion just do something amazing in the last preseason game. That begs the question, what will Goff’s role be as the number one overall pick. He will most likely turn into the #3 QB and won’t make any starts this season, unless Keenum comes down with an injury. Even though Prescott will get the opportunity to start for the Cowboys, Goff will be in a better position because he isn’t on a team that will most likely finish last in their division. The Rams might be in the division with the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, and San Francisco 49ers, but they have a team that looks good enough to beat out at least two of these teams this upcoming year. If the quarterback position, whoever it may be, can stay solid, the Rams have a great opportunity to even make the playoffs. Jared Goff will be able to learn a lot quicker when his team is winning games instead of losing them, but this doesn’t mean that Prescott won’t be a great
Brett led the team to a 6-4 record on the season. Because Brett did not have a chance to throw
The Steelers overall have many strengths that should last throughout the entire franchise of the team. Even when having a short down year, the Steelers are never in rebuilding mode. When a team can go nearly forty-five years without many rebuilding seasons, it shows that the franchise as a whole from the owner, players, coaches, and fans is run the right
Not very many people know much about the Chicago Bears and what their past was like. They have also had a lot of good players. Examples are Harold Grange, Gale Sayers, and George Halas. But the most well known was Walter Payton. The Bears stadium was one of the oldest known until it was rebuilt. The Chicago Bears are one of the most well known football teams in the whole NFL. The Chicago Bears are a very well known team in history because of their history, there Hall of Fame players, and because of its stadium. As a football team, the Bears have a very rich history
In December of their first season they opened on a high note defeating by 27 points
The Dallas Cowboys, America’s football team, one of the most well known professional football franchises in the sport’s history. The Cowboys own five super bowl titles, which were won in ’71, ’77, ’92, ’93 and ’95. They are also home to 19 renowned individuals who have been inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame including standout football stars Tony Dorsett, Emmit Smith, and Troy Aikman. Established in 1960, the Cowboys have been a dominating force on the field and still continue to produce to this day. Forbes wrote, “The Cowboys franchise value reaches over 1.85 billion and are listed as the third most valued sports team in the world”, (Page 1). With all of this hype and world wide recognition the powerhouse from Dallas needs a venue just as prominent as the team itself as well as having the capability to hold all the weight the Cowboys name carries.
It all started in 1946 when the San Francisco 49ers first began their franchise. In 1950 is when the moved to the National Football League. They earned their name from the gold miners who surged in San Francisco, in 1849, in search for gold so they could start a new life. Their first owner, Anthony J. Morabito, who was from the University of Santa Clara alumnus, had a dream of bringing a football team to the west. He had been moderately successful in the lumber hauling business. To make this happen, Anthony was put in touch with Arch Ward, an editor of the Chicago Tribune. Mr. Ward is credited with the All-American Conference, which was first held in October 1944. Anthony, after a long talk and negotiating with Mr. Ward, was granted a franchise with help from his younger brother, Victor, and partners in his lumbering business, Allen E. Sorrell, and E. J. Turre (“Niner’s history” www.49ersparadise.com).
their idols and role models could be bought with $5,000? After that season in 1920 baseball
There is considerable controversy that dates back to the 1960’s over sports teams’ names that reference Native American heritage. “The National Congress of American Indiana’s (NCIA) created a campaign in 1968 to eliminate stereotypes found in print and other media.” (ChangeTheMascot.org). The American Indian community has worked for many years to abolish the right to use Native American Names, spiritual and cultural symbols by professional sports teams (Teters) that they feel offensive. The Washington Redskins football team continues to battle a long standing controversy to change their name. Native Americans, politicians, fans of American football, as well as the general public all seem to have opposing viewpoints regarding if this team should be forced to change their name out of respect to those offended.
However, the term “Cinderella” can also be applied to the NFL and more specifically to the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams, who are led by first-year head coach Sean McVay and second-year quarterback Jared Goff are riding a four-game winning streak and in first place in the NFC West.
