One can imagine that games have been played throughout human history. Beginning as soon as there was a moment of leisure time not devoted to survival; as soon as a communications between individuals got beyond the basics of conveying elementary needs and movements, into realm of invention and ideas. It’s a fact that games are played between babies and their parents from the first months of life, beginning with peek-a-boo and pat-a-cake and working up to hide-and-seek just as soon as a toddler is mobile. Games seem to be part of our nature, probably because they severed a useful purpose (learning skills strategic thinking) all while being fun.
Basically, board games are divided into three types of games: luck, strategy, and knowledge. Board games based on luck are usually controlled by dice. The winner is usually determined by the one who can luckily roll the desired number on the dice. Games of strategy on the other hand are a game of wits, skills, and logic. People who excel and a game of chance will not change their skill in any way. There are also games that require the player to be knowledgeable on certain topics like quiz masters and scrabble. Then there are board games that do not require only luck but also strategy in all aspects of the game.
Board games likely originated in Egypt and The Fertile Crescent before spreading to other regions. India and China also had very early board games, but the exact dates of the creation remain unknown. Board games didn’t even reach Britain until the very end of the first century B.C. from there, they spread around the Mediterranean before reaching the Roman Empire and what is now Europe.

Throughout time, certain individuals have acquired power in their society as a way to govern and keep order among their community. Power is not a new concept; it was used in the past by many emperors, kings, and queens, and is still being used by presidents, prime ministers, and dictators. Although, it has been used to further progress societies into what the world is like today, not all power has been used for the best of mankind. But what goes awry to make power turn corrupt? In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, it is illustrated how power can turn corrupt, when authoritative figures, who possess power, abuse it for their personal gain, rather than for the common good of the society.

The “sport of kings” is one of the oldest sports still in existence today. In fact, versions of the game were played so long ago that a definite origin of the game cannot be determined. Due to the expense of owning and training the best horses, it was primarily nobles who played the game. Because of this, polo was spread as nations conquered others, and it disappeared in areas as noble classes died. Thus, the game was often born and reborn in so many versions that the term polo (translated from several ancient and modern languages) grew to encompass a wide variety of games involving a stick, ball and players on horseback.
Children have a natural inclination to play, alongside a natural instinct to learn and to be curious and inventive, which are characteristics of the human race in general. This quote taken from Janet Moyles is a good starting point for this essay. It is well known that children love to play. If a child were to be left to his/her own devices they would happily play and create new worlds anywhere they were left. It has been well documented and researched that children learn excellently through play. However they are not always given the opportunity to do so, instead being told to, ‘finish your work and then you can go play’. Obviously this is not always the case, but the fact that it is a common practice shows that we do not all fully appreciate the importance of play to children’s learning. This essay will attempt to show how children learn through play, making reference to current theory and practice. I will also give examples from my own first-hand experience of how children learn and develop as people through play.

The video game industry frequently connotes and restricts itself to the hotbed of console gaming. However, this segment, while quite large, fails to accurately represent the gaming industry’s economic, social, and interactive structure. And the game (or gaming) industry refers all to often to gambling rings. Thus, the “industry of games,” as a collection of interactive media, provides a more robust, inclusive notion of play that transcends platforms, roots of origin, and digital versus non-digital spaces. Analyzing the industry of games from past to future, with significant consideration given to present challenges faced therein, requires a holistic view of history and a critical evaluation of scholars’ and developers’ commentary on games as a whole.
Although technically beach volleyball isn’t the most dominant sport throughout the world, it is a sport available for all ages, it has progressively grown throughout the years, and has many different theories of its past. Several rules, people, and questions, have led to the discovery of more facts about beach volleyball from previous years. Uncovering each part of the history of beach volleyball shows more and more reasons why it is a tremendous sport to learn and research about.
